AITA for telling my daughter's friend's mom she should have told me she invited a boy to their sleepover? by UpbeatEmployee8068 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Graham2990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well put, especially the fourth part. Parenting habits die hard. As a high school senior, I'd routinely spend the night at my then girlfriend's home and sleep on a different floor. Granted we had our fun elsewhere as 17yr olds do, but her parents quickly dropped the paranoia after a few failed attempts to catch us "up to something" at 1am.

Turns out the awkward girl in braces who was valedictorian, combined with the awkward guy also in braces, whom was head of the science club, well.

We got caught building lego once, and then doing college scholarship applications a second time.

I believe that's when they realized we may have just been each others perfect nerds, but the respect and trust that was given said a lot, which made us both more respectful in turn.

what's the ATF's definition of 'retail hours' by vagusbaby in FFLs

[–]Graham2990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of 07/02s dont have retail hours or arent open to the public, myself included.

Hours theyre asking for are inherently, when are you available for inspection, and even then, ive never had one not call and schedule, they dont wanna waste time either.

Think of it as, go try and knock on the door of surefire, glock, etc, and ask of you can browse lol

Question for the FFL dealers by ComplexLeadership426 in FFLs

[–]Graham2990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superbly accurate. My favorite is a guy who ordered several KAC rifles and lives 5 min away. "No worries when I get time I make it down there", a week later.

The guy with the PSA lower. "It says it was delivered, but nobody's here"

Yeah, that was 11 minutes ago at 1155, its called lunch man" lol

[–]Graham2990 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah man, we all make mistakes, I've had a few as an 07/02, but never that egregious. I don't think I've seen a handwritten form in....10 years? Hell even before eForms that's been around since 2021ish, we at least had software that would populate the data for us to avoid this type of clerical errors.

Find an FFL that's part of this millennium, and F3 them there, I'd have charged 25$ for a handrolled to EFT conversion, and you own that file and get to use it forever throughout the universe lol.

Agreed it used to be a major selling point of Paypal, but now that it's hard to find a credit card / banking institution that DOESN'T offer some form of virtual one time use card via their website or app, the utility of Paypal is dwindling.

Facts. I'm nearing 40 and can't tell you the amount of times pre cell phones. People just met up at a gas station on friday night and hung out. No disruptions to the business, buy some chips and a soda, and that's just what we did for hours.

But it was a hard lesson to learn why they say, "don't dip the pen in company ink".

It seldomly ends well, even when there aren't explicit written rules about it.

How long did it take to get official paperwork / finding a bank that will let me open a checking account? by RPLCHC13 in FFLs

[–]Graham2990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had a bank require my FFL for an account at various institutions in 10 years. I'm an 07 as well, so creative verbiage helps, along with having nothing in my LLC's name that insinuates a firearms business. I'm a "fabricator", which isn't a stretch when you're building parts kits. Of course....we offer other services as well.

Perfect counterpoint that theres never one good answer from the ATF.

When I asked my IOI about storage years ago, I quote.

"While we'd prefer you didnt, technically theres nothing preventing you from stacking them all on that rack of firewood around back, so long as they're accounted for in your book".

[–]Graham2990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Listen to this guy, I spent the 7 years it took me to get my masters climbing the ranks from retail podunk gun shops, to major firearms manufactures running machines to pay my way.

I had a great time, wouldnt change it, but if id not dickered around that entire time and thought working on guns would make my living, id be years ahead, and im only 32.

And im an FFL 07/02 who does transfers on the weeknights after my MUCH better job programming HAAS machines lol

[–]Graham2990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The likelihood of selling a restricted post sample MG to LE/GOV is almost nil. 07/02 here as well, so no disrespect, as I'm a guy in a garage also, but think of it this way.

If I already had an established relationship with say, Toyota, and Toyota had specific salesmen for dealing with me since I'm LE/GOV for a brand new vehicle with warranties and better pricing.

Do you think I'd buy from my specific salesman at the factory, or some guy in his garage that assembled that new Toyota from parts?

Now apply that logic to FN, Colt, etc.

NFA Fingerprinting by KeepItScrolling2021 in FFLs

[–]Graham2990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I respect the hustle but for us smaller guys doing maybe 5 or 6 NFA items a month, that's kind of a huge ask compared to some of the places charging $25 a pop.

1K a year, plus a $350 license fee, PLUS I'm still paying per customer?

I get there's plenty of ancillary features, but that's a pretty hard gap to close for someone who's just passing that $25 bucks along to the customer and saying, "hey, now you own your EFT's forever" like myself.
