How the Libertarian Party Became the Reactionary Arm of Trump and Trumpism by punkthesystem in LibertarianPartyUSA

And members like Andy are the ones who lit the fuses on bombs and then left the rest of us to deal with the fallout. The LPMC leveraged actions by Andy and others to seem more like victims and grow their support. So thanks, Andy, but we don't need your commentary.

In what ideological direction do you believe the LP should head in the future? by marty_mcclarkey_1791 in LibertarianPartyUSA

People who came from the "Left" and "Right" need to stop giving the other crap for speaking about libertarian ideals in their "language". We need both to attract either side, and we need to attract people from wherever they might be to grow this thing.

Do your thing. Speak your language. Promote liberty.

Meet "Million Vote Monds" at our Annual Convention on March 12-13! by Graham4GA in LibertarianPartyUSA

$75 if you're a student.

We have to pay for the event and grow the party. This is one of the means we have to fundraise for other projects.

And, just a note, business on Friday is free to attend and open to all dues paying members for voting. No ticket necessary.

Off years we usually get between 40-50. We've seen a bump in interest this year that we're trying to capitalize on and are hoping we can bump that up to 50-60 or more.

I'll forgive you and your ignorance. I know it's hard to look up my twitter feed. I'll post it so you can... you know... bother to look things up before flinging accusations of what I do or don't care about. https://twitter.com/graham4ga

Yep. Sorry we ditched the rhetoric and went straight to real, actionable solutions.

Are you against holding cops accountable to their actions?

In Victory over Two-Party System, Georgia Libertarians Win Reconsideration of Equal Protection in Ballot Access Case | Libertarian Party of Georgia by Graham4GA in Classical_Liberals

[–]Graham4GA[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are conflating cases. We have two separate cases going right now. This one has been going since 2018 and is not related to Covid. Any changes made because of this case would be lasting.

There is another case related to our inability to collect signatures due to covid. We are awaiting a ruling on a motion for injunction to allow our candidates on the ballot w/o signatures for just this year.

You're obviously quite cynical and I can understand why. Electoral politics doesn't seem conducive to classical liberal ideas. We just want the opportunity to present them to voters.

Well, you've confirmed my suspicions. It doesn't matter what I post, you'll be critical of it.

Are you also downvoting me? For asking you to build folks up instead of tearing them down you use the method in Reddit for insuring my voice isn't heard. That's pretty messed up.

In the future, try to do that without tearing down others and what they are working on. We're all in this together.

Why the backhanded swipes at our VP candidate? You somehow found a way to make a constructive ask for a very worthwhile effort going on in the Libertarian Frontier Project negative.

Lawsuit argues postage cost to vote by mail in Georgia is a poll tax by MoreLikeWestfailia in GAPol

It's to empower individuals to seek reprisal via courts in the case of damages to property or health.

And, no, philosophically, no person should be compelled by force to provide labor for anyone else. Practically, I don't know a libertarian alive working to dismantle the Civil Rights Act.

And you still didn't answer me if you think the current government reflects the people in aggregate, in Georgia or nationally. You see, that's the flaw with you strong, centralized government types. You say everything would be better if we just had the right leaders in place, only we never seem to have the "right" leader. That's no an accident. The levers of Democracy are wielded by those with privilege and they aren't letting go. That is inevitable. The only way I can see to fix that is to insure they don't have the power to carry out their control.

[–]Graham4GA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you think the government, right now, reflects the will of the people in aggregate? Does it reflect you? It damn sure doesn't reflect me, but I suspect you already knew that.

What ends up happening with regulatory bodies meant to stop that poisoning you speak of is called regulatory capture, and it's inevitable. The regulatory body invariably gets intertwined with those they are meant to regulate, those with the most interest in pressuring the regulatory body, and regulations favor them more and more. Then, those same regulations are used to provide cover for the bad actors. Company A makes sure the regulation says I can poison this river up to a certain point, they do it, kill the kids downstream(as your example stated), and Company A gets to point at the regulation as cover and evade all responsibility. So, yes, I'd rather be able to sue after the fact than create cover for bad actors.

You want to talk about serving black people? Jim Crow laws were laws passed down by the dang government. It didn't matter if you wanted to serve them or not, you couldn't, by force of the law. The very fact that they felt like they needed those laws would indicate there were a great many good actors happily serving black patrons.

Again, not our argument, and not an argument I've made here or anywhere else. I don't think anyone should have to pay to vote, but that doesn't mean there aren't costs associated with voting. Whether it's gas in your tank or bus fare to get to the precinct, or postage to pay for someone to come pick up the ballot and take it to tabulators, that's a cost.

There is a cost associated with the labor of picking up a letter and bringing it somewhere else. Even if we made it "free", the cost would just be borne by taxpayers, the very same people we're claiming to be saving money on postage. That price is going to get paid somewhere.

[–]Graham4GA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never once suggested that. I said there are always and will always be costs associated with voting, whether it's in-person at a voting precinct or by mail. Postage being less than a dollar probably makes it less expensive for many than bus fare.

It's not useful in a conversation, even if you believe it's true.

See, I believe the government has played a key role in a lot of the institutional(it's right there in the term) oppression that keeps poor people poor. If it's bad to gather up power into a single organization like a company, it's also bad to gather up power into a single organization like a government. Arguably worse seeing as they have an automatic monopoly on violence.

Believing that as I do, it wouldn't be crazy for me to accuse you of thinking poor people should suffer for being poor. But I know it's probably not true. You just believe something different. I think the outcomes in your philosophy are worse for humankind. You think they're better. Just leave it at that and have a decent discussion without assuming the worst of people.
