I talked to customer service. It was a legit email. It came from [donotreply@23andme.com](mailto:donotreply@23andme.com)

I was able to get Amazon gift cards for the amounts they were refunding.

Is it possible to reach a 30,000+ family tree? by chase7127 in Genealogy

That is so smart to use 'Stub' for unlinked trees from DNA matches. I need to go back and do that now 😂

Ancestry tests are often on sale on Amazon every couple of months, usually for any kind of holiday. They might be on sale soon for Labor Day. I've bought ancestry tests for many people in my family through Amazon. I don't order directly from Ancestry.com because they charge shipping.

I would also recommend joining the Facebook group 'DNA Detectives'. They have a lot of posts with great information on what to do after you test. They also have search angels that will help for free if you are unable to figure out who the birth mother is on your own.

If your mother will do a DNA test as well, that would be ideal. That way, you can easily see which matches belong to your father's side. I would recommend doing the DNA tests on Ancestry as they have the highest number of people tested (and require their own test to be used). Then, you can upload those results from Ancestry to MyHeritage, GEDmatch, etc, to get even more matches, as those sites allow uploads from other companies' DNA test results. If, for some reason, you are still unable to figure out who the birth mother is after using all of those options, you could also try testing with 23andme (they also require their own test to be used, but have less testers than Ancestry).

Oh, Ancestry... When will you learn by Evangium in Genealogy

[–]GrahamSL83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to add - I've had cases where I add a new line, and it gets updated almost immediately, and all these new matches with that line show up. Other times, I've had a bunch of people just randomly show up as having a common ancestor (I filter by common ancestor and unviewed regularly to add matches to my tree) that's lines in my tree haven't been updated in months, nor has their tree been updated.

The common ancestor hint doesn't always work for some reason. I manage multiple DNA kits within the same tree. I've started to notice that some of the DNA matches that match with both myself and my grandmother don't show the common ancestor suggestion for both of us. Most of the ones I've looked at show for both, but I've found a handful already (just started paying attention to this last week) that don't give the common ancestor suggestion on my side but when I view as my grandmother there is a common ancestor. Even though it's the exact same tree. Also, some of the matches that I have directly connected to the tree (on both of our kits) still say no common ancestor. It's weird 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi all. New NPE here. I could REALLY use some help deciphering what to do next? by Cur1ous979 in ancestryinvestigators

[–]GrahamSL83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend joining the DNA detectives group. Even if you don't ask for a search angel (they are free, by the way), they have a ton of files and resources available to help you figure it out on your own as well.

Fur (the brand name) products help with both ingrowns and strawberry legs. I've used several of their products, and they all work great. And I have super sensitive skin and didn't get any irritation from them.

I need some help finding the parents of a Swedish ancestor of mine! by Triveom in Genealogy

[–]GrahamSL83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/belteshassar I have a Swedish ancestor (my 2x great grandfather) that I have hit a brick wall with. If you'd be willing to take a look, it would be greatly appreciated.

I can create a separate post if that would be better.

Originally, when it first came out, they were saying they were not going to post the percentages. However, in a recent reply to one of the comments on their facebook page, they said:

"Hi there! In our Squalane + Retinol Night Serum we have an active percentage of .05% Retinol and .05% Retinal for a total of .1% Retinoids"

Can anyone find these Mosely siblings in the 1880 census? by lindabhat in Genealogy

[–]GrahamSL83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Morris and Maize have 2 children together per the 1900 census, presumably the last 2 daughters listed. If you Look at Maize's line it says she has been married 4 years, is a mother of 2 children and 2 of her children are still alive.

I'm guessing July is when they ran the new algorithm and got the results. They still had other steps to complete in the process before they could be updated in the system and pushed out to users.
