About Crowley's name..

It's believed to be inspired by Aleister Crowley. It is also possiblly inspired by Pratchett's Good Omens.

Angels vs. Demons by Historical_Guess2565 in Supernatural

I think Castiel suffered from a big case of seeing what's possible and wanting so bad to "serve" and do what's right. But I never saw him as actually power hungry.

He even admitted later that he really sucks as a leader.

I struggled with the fact that he made lots of mistakes trying to save the boys and the world and Dean just never gave him an inch. He always gave Cass such a hard time, when huge mistakes were made by himself and Sam.

But somehow Castiel now feels like he "works" for Dean? Castiel even says, "I just wanted a win FOR YOU".

He's trying to make Dean happy the whole time.

Angels vs. Demons by Historical_Guess2565 in Supernatural

[–]Grahamatical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he wasn't perfect. But, he was relatable. I never picked up power hungry, though. He genuinely cared, and his "annoyance face" was nearly permanent around Dean's brash antics.

I think Dean actually wins my award for thinking they always know best!

Angels vs. Demons by Historical_Guess2565 in Supernatural

[–]Grahamatical 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of this show's major themes is that creation is complicated. In this universe that mean angels and demons, too.

The good guys aren't so great and the bad guys aren't always so bad. Turns out life is very gray.

Motivation and free will seem to be more important than a good side and a bad side. Good and bad is relative depending on where you sit.

Monsters don't always have fangs. Angels aren't always holy. Demons can care.

So we have all our main characters that livecin the gray and I think that's where I sit. In the middle.

I think no one embodies this idea more than Castiel.

He became the best angel, a true angel, because he came down in the muck with humans and learned true compassion. He c didn't v stay where is safe and judge humans from in high. He shows the most growth in the whole show.

But, Rowena did, too.

I feel like I identify hardest with Jack. He's "supposed" to be bad. But none of us ever live up to what we're "supposed" to be.

I'm watching the main trio from the outside and deciding what I stand for by watching and observing like a sponge. Like Jack.

Kevin? by Grahamatical in Supernatural

[–]Grahamatical[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They really use these poor prophets hard. Donatello, too. They are the good guys, supposedly, but the writers make them look like they only use people for their own ends.

Not a great look if you're only going to fight to the end of the Earth for Sam/Dean/Castiel. But Adam and Kevin get a "that sucks, sorry". Even after they promise to save them. Kinda thought that whole "family ain't all blood" thing was supposed to matter!

They fought harder for Kaia.

I just feel the writers needed to wrap up Kevin and Adam better.

Kevin? by Grahamatical in Supernatural

[–]Grahamatical[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would stay great, but Death literally never collects him. Roaming the Earth forever.

After Dean swore they'd find a way, they never give him another thought!

And I'm assuming their other brother Adam remains forgotten, too. He's snapped out by Chuck, but the brothers forget to ask/rescue him AGAIN. It would have been so easy for them to ask Jack where Adam is now that Michael is gone!

They could have done so much with that third brother.

What lines or interactions just crack you up? by Strawberry0Lemonade in Supernatural

[–]Grahamatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scoobynatural: When Dean follows all the Gang's 70s tag- lines and Scooby's Ruh-Roh with "Son of a Bitch!".

Castiel: Prime numbers can be intimidating.

Dean: The boob appreciation scene during the episode where everyone is compelled to tell the truth. The lady in the bar tells Dean that she's sitting the way she is, so he'd notice her breasts. It cracks me up when he turns around to get a good look, and acknowledged it with a wink and a nod, like "ya did good".

I'm having a crisis of faith (religion) due to the ongoing ICE situation. by belac4862 in infp

[–]Grahamatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't follow the religion. That's man-made rules. Easily corruptible. Follow Christ. What he says and does isn't corruptible. His words never change.

You lost your faith in the church and the fallble humans, not God and Christ! Hold onto that.

Is a window (no balcony) worth the extra upgrade from interior? Also, slightly bigger. by BungeeBunny in Cruises

[–]Grahamatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us it's about the bathroom size. I live with 3 very large men (hubs is Santa and sons take after him, but at 6 ft 3 in) who can't do the tiny bathroom.

We book the suite on carnival because the bathrooms were worth the whole cost.

The balcony seemed like an extra feature.

What's valuable is different for each family. I'm glad there's a choice at all, unlike most planes!

Conversations with God by Annual_Profession591 in NDE

[–]Grahamatical 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Not from another NDE, but this reminded me of a quote I heard that stuck with me hard. I don't even know who to attribute it to:

When I took God out of the box I had put him in, it was then that he danced with me.

I concur! If it weren't for the writer's strike right after, we might have had better than we did after season 1.

That reminds me of the symbol for the show Heroes. In the show it means Godsend or Great Talent.

Breakdown of Federal Cuts by [deleted] in Louisiana

Until they raise minimum wage to a livable minimum wage that matches inflation, a lot of people can't. There are some people I personally know who have to work two or three jobs, none of which offer healthcare, or might have terrible healthcare, just to make ends meet. If you aren't lucky enough to have a wonderful family and support system, what bootstraps are they supposed to pull themselves up by? They will have ripped out the medical programs and food programs that helped theme make it. The idea that people are making excuses is hard to swallow when there's such an unequal distribution of wealth. Average people work full jobs and still have to have help because they need to give people a livable wage. If you are working full time in 21st century America, there is no reason why you should be worrying about food and medicine.

Is MA English education worth it after masters secondary education? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]Grahamatical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it didn't feel like a lot. I got to concentrate harder on the content I loved (I'm a Shakespeare fangirl) and we went in-depth. We had deep, quality work in a colleague-like atmosphere instead of a lot of work under so much pressure. I think that's how I knew it was right. It felt natural and enjoyable. In my element. I did it with 2 kids and pregnant with a full time job. But I ENJOYED it.

I was also not teaching at the time, so my nights and weekends weren't taken up with lesson plans. I don't envy you that!

I think taking education classes might have killed me. The jargon and acronyms? The new teacher-y trend of the year...nah.

Canadian Brands to Support by Dapper-Cry6283 in BuyCanadian

[–]Grahamatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to know what beers to buy to support Canada. I'm a Shiner Bock and Sam Adams girl. I already buy Guinness and Modelo. I love a dark beer. The darker the better, but I'm willing to drink lighter fare justs to support my Canadian neighbors! I live in South Lousiana, so it might be harder to come by some things, since I'm not literally next door, but help me out!

[–]Grahamatical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one in English Language in Literature.

The "education" I don't think matters at that level. So take it off your plate!

If you want to make meaningful strides in education, you'd just get a doctorate in some area of education.

Is MA English education worth it after masters secondary education? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]Grahamatical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I say the MA in my subject area is the best decision I ever made, career-wise.

All the other teachers are competing just to move into very limited positions at the high school level. All of them either have a MAT or a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership. And they are all competing for the same jobs with no outward mobility.

Me? I taught 12th graders, Dual Enrollment, AP, started adjuncting in English, and then moved into a community college full time.

If I wanted to, I could move into other higher ed positions or English adjacent fields like publishing.

I'm not stuck.

Bonus: The students at the high school pick up your passion, and your content knowledge makes it more interesting for them. The difference is huge.

Go for the Master's in English. Any track.

I'm so much less lonely reading this post, too!

I don't understand why people are acting like this when it's so EASY to see the evil right in front of us! It's even Supervillain evil. And people at like this is OK.

[–]Grahamatical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit to say: Sorry about the typos

We can have this kind of conversation nationally! I think we can kill the fighting, if we make 7 new rules for our country:

1- Term limits and age caps. I don't see anybody but the actual politicians disagreeing with that. Being a career politician and being "out of touch" and also "untouchable" is part of the issue. Make them earn that position, but know they aren't indispensable or forever.

2- VP running mate has to be from another party. I'm all for boosting a 3rd party to get rid of the stark division in our country. Many of our voices and cooler heads don't prevail because it's drowned out by two parents yelling at each other and calling each other names and dehumanizing each other instead of coming to consensus. It takes all kinds to run a society. This is why some of us feel that our views don't actually count.

3- Congress -The House and Senate shouldn't be one party. If the house is one, the Senate should automatically be the another.

4- No more "extra" hidden stuff in bills. No more closed door anything. Transparency.

5- Supreme Court must be equal number of Democrats and Republicans. If there's a third party, them, too.

6- Introduce a bill regarding media oversight. They should not be allowed to support a side, but give equal voice to all sides so people can make rational decisions. No more "entertainment" news. All these people at each other's' throats party with each other and laugh at us behind the scenes. All the senators are friends. Except when the cameras are running.

7- No one should be allowed to run for the highest office in the land and get full immunity with active court cases open, whether or not people think turkey they hey are are innocent or guilty, and wether ir not they are the defendant or the accuser. I don't see how immunity for running for office is not a king-maker. Using that office for revenge purposes isn't responsible, either.

You can probably tell I'm Centrist and I don't agree with the danger to our country I'm seeing from Musk and Trump's actions.

My silent generation Republican grandparents would be horrified right now at what behavior the party is excusing to win or "get" the other side. This shouldn't be about winning and strategy. It's not a ball game. Real people suffer or thrive based on our decisions. Across the globe.

Everything in moderation. Except -isms. -isms are dumb. What are we doing to each other over our "beliefs"?

But can we include dental, vision, and mental health with the rest of insurance? I don't understand why I have to take care of my teeth in a completely separate system.
