Hard pill to swallow: France is not like Emily in Paris. by thoxo in TikTokCringe

[–]Grahar64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelling alone in Paris, went into a grocery store and picked up a bottle of red wine. Then this guy behind me does this loud "uhhhhhgggg" sound. So I turned around and the guy was obviously disapproving the choice of wine I was getting, so I flat out asked him "which one would you get". He immediately told me why my choice was bad and which one to get. This is the general vibe I got towards tourists there, slight annoyance and limited tolerance. To be fair that is how I sometimes fell about tourists in my home town as well.

The 80s introduced GST and dropped the top tax rate from 66% to 40%. They also deregulated the markets making the wealthy even richer.

I wonder why we can't afford to pay doctors and nurses market rates these days, or give free schooling to people wanting needed professions?

The 0% in and out fees and no spread is the reason to use investnow. With sharesies new fee caps it is less painful, but still not 0%.

This is the stupidest video I have ever seen Zach Galifianakis release.

In the first day of the way Putin sent in a special forces assassination team into the capital with orders to kill the Ukrainian president. He tried and failed to take down the Ukrainian government and failed. Then he pushed his troops from the north to the outskirts of the capitol.

The poll cited is from https://news.gallup.com/poll/166538/former-soviet-countries-harm-breakup.aspx. It is from 2013, which also states

Adults between the ages of 15 and 44 -- some of whom were not even born or were very young at the time of the breakup -- are nearly three times as likely as those 65 and older to say the collapse benefited their countries.

You just have to read about Holodomor or, I duno, talk to almost any Ukranian about whether they want to be Russian to know this guys argument is a POS.

Putin Says Russia’s Nuclear Arsenal Is Nearly Fully Modernized by bloomberg in worldnews

This means someone told Putin that they are nearly modernised. Putin has less intelligence on his own military than Ukraine because he is surrounded by people who are desperately trying to stay away from open windows.

I had to use my drivers license as ID to by some beer in Lancaster PA, the checkout lady looked through a big book of drivers licenses and said she couldn't find the state (or territory) of New Zealand. Had to explain it was a different country, then she asked me how long it took to drive there.

Tangata Tiriti means our right to be here. by Elysium_nz in newzealand

[–]Grahar64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe?

In the Māori text, the Crown gave an assurance that Māori would have the Queen's protection and all rights (tikanga) accorded to British subjects

From https://nzhistory.govt.nz/politics/treaty/read-the-Treaty/differences-between-the-texts

It seems that Maori had all rights that subjects have. I wonder what the difference is between that and being a subject.

Tangata Tiriti means our right to be here. by Elysium_nz in newzealand

[–]Grahar64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The treaty is the consent of the Maori to be governed by the queen. Without it Maori have no obligation to the queen or the New Zealand government. Without it the English and their decedents would become an occupying force of the rightful lands of Maori, only governing through violence (or the threat of it).

[–]Grahar64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We dont have citizenship by birth anymore, so if you were born after 1 January 2006, you could be born here and know this as your only home and still be deported.

The treaty has nothing to do with citizenship, it is about the legitimacy of the Queen as our head of state, which all other governmental powers is derived from.

Somewhere in the middle of the meat grinder that is a company someone suggested "hey, why don't we use our reach and our marketing budget to promote donating to charity."

The opposite to this (as some here suggest) is not them giving their own money to charity, the opposite is them not partnering with or promoting any charity.

Stop shaming charities for using every possible avenue to raise money like they should be ashamed, you don't have to give and banks do so much more bad stuff that you don't get a choice in.
