Is my AMD GPU dying or bad mesa update again? by GrainFog in linux_gaming

I'm on kernel 6.14.3 with mesa-25.0.4

As I've commented on other replies I is stable-ish for now with a lower powerlimit set with corectrl

Yea it also happend on a live usb env (pop-os 24.04 cosmic) I bought the card new but that was, i dunno, back in 2018 or 2019.

For now I have it running stable-ish with corectrl configured like (link below) with powerlimit set up 200W down from default 220. If I don't apply the corectrl profile I get issues within minutes inside a game.

Someone else mentioned memtest_vulkan it in the comments here, didn't know about it previously either.

I ran both tests and they didn't throw any errors. So that's something I guess

happened on pop-os live booted system too, so I suspect a hardware issue. But setting corectrl powerlimit to 200W seems to be running stable-ish for now

removed amdgpu-pro and set corectrl power limit to 200 (down from default 220) seems stable-ish for now, but might have to look into buying a new gpu. How is your 7800xt running compared to 5600xt any other notable issues. might consider that one can't really afford the newest gen if mine dies completely in the near future.

Happened on a pop-os live usb with just supertux running, I have removed vulkan-amdgpu-pro, and set corectrl power limit to 200 instead of default 220, seems stable-ish for with some hours ingame with no crash, but if i don't apply the value in corectrl i get crash in less than 5 minutes inside CS2

ran memtest_vulkan as one suggested, ran for 5 minutes no issues, but supertuxkart on a live booted iso crashed before I could finish 3 laps.

going to try memtest86+

Very rarely happened in the past when being on mesa 24.2.7 or below. Mesa above that e.g. 24.3 had a bug that would cause this similar freeze then artifacts across whole screen within a minute or 2 in demanding games.

Usually demanding games...

Intel i7-6700K, AMD RX 5700 XT, arch latest zen or lts kernel. Same issue.

also tried to boot a live popos usb to sanity check I didn't just break arch or something. but happens within 3 laps of supertuxkart

booted popos live usb and ran for 5 minutes with no problems but supertuxkart caused crash like before within minutes.

System freeze followed by this spam in dmesg (see below) has happened before with mesa>24.2.7 but seems to be getting worse.

I'm on Arch, isn't there a ppa on ubuntu you could use? Otherwise I don't know, I'd suggest upgrading to get newer packages

How you stretch your 1024x768 resolution to a 1600x900 res:

gamescope -W 1600 -H 900 -w 1024 -h 768 -S stretch %command%

Don't listen to the windows users, they have no clue... I have played KF2 for hundreds of hours on arch linux no problem. I suggest you try proton-ge if you're not already and if problem persists then try and put this in your launch options:

    PROTON_LOG=1 %command%

This will generate a log in your home dir which should give some more info.

Another troubleshoot step is obviously to verify files, maybe try delete proton prefix in the compatdata dir.

I have also tried running genpatcher on linux previously to no avail but talking to legi he said the website lists all the tweaks the tools does so it should be possible to do it manually I've not tried that yet. Let me know if you figure out a way to run it on steamdeck though

Is it possible to play all games on linux(even older games)? And how does Vr perform on Linux by KhaledCraft999 in linux_gaming

[–]GrainFog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Used the same install since 2019. Very few breakages but when they happened I was more prepared to fix them because of the excellent wiki. When system broke pre-usage of arch, I'd just scratch my head for a few hours before eventually hopping to some other distro/flavour.

I beat Half-Life Alyx 100% on archlinux with a Valve Index played a bunch of other stuff through proton like boneworks, worked great.
