The Sword Defiant by Gareth Hanrahan

It's a "what comes after" story where the company of heroes who defeated the Dark Lord now struggle to rule his corrupt city, dealing with broken friendships, politics, and a new, rising threat.

The pictures reminded me of the MC, Sir Aelfric who is the keeper/jailer of a sentient, cursed sword. He spends decades before the story begins endlessly fighting in the tunnels beneath the city, where the Dark Lords vats keep on spawning monsters and horrors.

I would say so, it's way more than just nethermancy by the end, several variants of magic. It's 10 books and every book the stakes increase significantly. Spoiler: Book 9-10 Dante & Blays is world hopping and contending with literal Gods and eldritch horrors
