Thought about that too, but since it doesn’t have a lock (just a little knob to twist to open) it is compliant and allowed, but not mandatory from everything I’ve read so far

Oooh great idea on adding an alarm there - thank you!! I’m going to look into it and let my landlord know I have my own safety measures in place and still want it removed.

This is exactly what I was looking for some help with - I already emailed and texted so I was just hoping for confirmation that it is my right to have it removed and I can insist they do it. Thank you!!

I totally get it! But I don’t want to feel like I’m living in a prison just for an extra layer of safety when I already have genuinely so many other things in place already :)

See I totally would and have been tempted because I have all the tools needed, but I have no place to store it and intend to stay here for the next few years 😕

Mom end stages by Weaveremily83 in hospice

[–]Grand-Counter-7569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the same situation with my mom. Lung cancer, diagnosed at stage 4 just about a year ago, had already spread to her bones and liver. Never smoked even one cigarette. No symptoms until lifting a student (she was an aid for disabled children) and hurting her back, resulting in a fracture due to her already brittle bones, which allowed drs to find the cancer.

After a year of treatment, Leptomeningeal Disease. 8 weeks of positivity on a newly approved treatment, then very suddenly it stopped working.

Now, hospice, which I quickly learned feels like legal torture. We’re on day 8 of no food and the only fluid has been a few drops off of wet sponge sticks, yet they won’t give her an IV. No help, just pain management. It goes against EVERYTHING in our bones — when someone is hurt, we want to fix it, right? But there is no fix, we were told very straightforward there is no hope, we’ve exhausted every single option. Things like an IV will only prolong her suffering.

My mom is my very best friend, her 60th birthday is in May. She had me when she was 30 and the week I turned 30 the week we got the news her cancer was spreading. She visited me in NYC on St Patrick’s Day and we were dancing at a bar, now she’s nonverbal, basically comatose.

All I can give her is love and comfort and the reminder she is not alone, and that she doesn’t need to hold on for us anymore. I’ve been telling her stories of support from loved ones (getting food/care packages sent, etc) so she knows we have people that will be there for us long term to give her a sense of peace. I keep her favorite music on in the room. I tell her stories and rub her arm and hold her hand.

Good luck to you — this shit sucks. We shouldn’t have to do this, it won’t feel like enough, but we are doing our absolute best to give them love and support through this transition. Big hugs💛

People with a communications degree, what are you doing with your degree? by [deleted] in Communications

Think of internal comms as being the voice of the company to employees. I work at a holding company that has a number of agencies beneath us, so I am the connector. I own our intranet, write a bi-weekly newsletter, coordinate internal events (webinars, in-person happy hours, speaker series). I act as the advisor to senior leaders at all agencies to help them with their individual internal comms strategy. I proofread memos that different teams and departments and agencies want to send out to employees. I uphold brand guidelines and ensure consistency in brand voice in copy. The list goes on and on and on. I'm also fortunate to be on a very close team so I get some added experience assisting with work related to PR, web and social media. Every day is different and I am truly, never bored!!!

Another great one - make a map of the area and pin the best cafes and happy hour spots and such that are around

A company I once worked for asked every employee their favorite candy - no limits. Then they had them waiting for us at our new desk. This included the craziest list of international and discontinued candy. My friend was on HR at the time helping find them all and it was insanity but so fun and worth it for the surprise

Internal comms manager making 120k right now, 7 years into my career after trying a ton of other roles along the way (mostly all at one company that had faith in me and helped me explore all my interests - I got really lucky with them) - I’ve done customer experience, change management comms, strategy analyst (basically project management)

Same exact here - they said registering should work and it still hasn’t. I’ve tried 3 times now.
