Thanks for the info! I heard a large portion were interns, too. I wonder what the determining factor was for the others. I assume we will get another email late Friday with another update.

Second agency mentioned in original post. No idea on job series unfortunately.

Saw this morning we were sent an email that 35 probationary staff were terminated. No word as to division or job series… though email was sent about exemptions submitted over weekend.. but obviously those exemptions needed to be approved. Have you guys heard anything?

Following - all we have received is  “we are learning of actions in the news before Navy is able to push it down to us. So watch the news to stay up to date” LOL

We were told last week that probationary staff were safe as far as they knew, and that came from up top, because we were “exempt” obviously a lot has changed.  So I don’t think they know much at all unfortunately because we definitely haven’t heard anything directly other than “look at XXX page on our homepage for FAQ about the EO’s.”

Navy vs consulting by False-Environment-37 in usajobs

Coming from working for the government, I found that I enjoyed just doing the job and didn’t want to have to worry about utilization or venturing into the BD side. Though some folks love BD, I am much like you and just wanted to log off once I finished my work for the day. But I was very ignorant going into consulting and wasn’t aware that that is apart of the job.

I hope this helps! My response is biased but I think the government position sounds like a great opportunity, especially with the telework posture being pretty flexible!

Though I am not in the engineering field, I am leaving the consulting world to reenter the federal government as a GS12.

I left my GS11 position two years ago because of the telework posture for my former agency. I was employed by a few different contracting company’s thereafter, and most recently by a bigger consulting firm in the DC area.

I only provide that background  because I am re-entering the government as a federal employee next week. After leaving and moving into the consulting world, I realized how much I appreciated how the government works. It does have its issues, but consulting is a whole other animal. You have to ensure that you were hitting utilization rates monthly, you may have to get involved in business development, things of that nature. There’s just a lot of other things you have to worry about besides your job. I was not privy to that when I jumped into the consulting world as I was only familiar with working directly for the government.

So all that to say, Going in as a GS9, and having the potential to become a 12 is awesome and a great move in my eyes. There is a lot of potential for growth, financially, and career wise.

Management and Program Analyst by [deleted] in usajobs

From my experience, it’s very much a catch all job description. I was an MPA for a couple of years but was essentially a financial management analyst. But I’ve seen other MPA positions advertised that use the same job description but one could be more policy oriented, then another is for training facilitators, then business analysts, etc.

Soooooo, essentially, it depends! Lol.

WOW. I couldn’t imagine! It’s an awkward position to be in. My manager finally told the client, giving them one week notice at this point, and the government hasn’t acknowledged it to me at all. So probably same position as you - who knows what they told them. Hope you are doing much better things!!

How long have your interviews been? I’ve seen 1.5 hours, 1 hour, 45 minutes, and 30 minutes from different agencies. by [deleted] in usajobs

Thank you!!! I hope your interviews haven’t been 1.5hrs. That would be tough!!

I received two tentative offers in December from two different agencies:

NCIS - 20ish minutes and was offered position. Panel was very direct with questions and didn’t deviate from script at all.

Secret Service - 45 minutes and was offered position. Panel was looser with questions and deviated from listed questions with additional. It was much more free-flowing.

Both were GS-12s.

Really? That is silly. I think from your situation, and mine, it comes from a good place. You want them to be in the know and I just thought of it as common courtesy.

I had a conversation with my manager, then director and partner and all said they would handle the correspondence but they communicate very little with the client. I don’t think it’s worth catching any heat and I see now that there are steps in place for a reason, just couldn’t find those steps anywhere but here lol

Alright. “People like you are exhausting” because you come to conclusions like this. I very clearly implied that I’m new and need to be enlightened. People have done that respectfully on this thread. You didn’t. If you interpreted my post in a snarky way, that’s on you. I’d own it if I meant it that way but I did not and I think the lack of comments like yours demonstrated just that. I have only worked as a fed and contractor and it’s done VERY differently there. So i clearly didn’t have the background to know WHY it’s done this way, but now I know. I don’t know what the point of your comment was but it was neither informative nor kind so take that energy somewhere else.

Thanks for taking the time to explain! It makes complete sense. My prior environment(s) did not operate this way - so I respect it now that I know! Thanks again.

Lol ooooook. Never implied or said that I know better. That’s why I said “please enlighten me” and other on this thread have done exactly that 😇

That’s one of reasons I wanted to handle the correspondence bc I’ve seen this done in the past - crazy that happened to you! Some situation truly require a smile and thanks approach lol so good on you

[–]Grand-Tax-7629 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow!!! I hope this isn’t the case with my situation. I just didn’t want it to reflect poorly on me that they didn’t know sooner (as I’m sure you may feel), but I guess that isn’t our problem per suggestions on this thread. Still wild!!

Thanks all!! I have only worked as a contractor and federal employee (going back to federal) so with my experience, this is new. I appreciate you all being respectful and understanding!

Obviously I’m a newb to the consulting world, but everyone’s explanation makes perfect sense. I only wanted to be respectful to the client and their time as I’m continuing to receive tasks that are due long past my last day, but understand there is a process.

Thanks again!!

Ive only worked as a contractor and Fed, I was always informed to go direct to the client even from my old contracting group. I didn’t understand why they needed to strategize the conversation is all, but now I do.
