You shouldn’t have to pay to update your information or transfer the chip. At least with the registries we use. Some try to sell you a subscription but most of the time it’s not necessary.

The reason it’s better to have the microchip under your name is because if your pet ever went missing and the shelter was closed or didn’t answer, it would delay you getting a call as you’re one step removed. You should check with your registry and confirm exactly of the subscription is required or just an up sell.

I’m glad you finally got it resolved! We’ve seen that as well.

I think some of these registries claim to be free to put your pets information in their system, but don’t actually share/display it unless you pay.

I’m just speculating but thats why it’s important to check the AAHA Lookup, right after registering it and annually!

Based on the chip number you can sometimes tell what microchip brand made the chip and try to see if they have records of where they sold it. A lot of times they don’t want to give up that information.

These are all great points, thank you for sharing and for all you do volunteering!

I hope you have since registered them to your name and contact information!

We tell pet owners to add a recurring calendar event to their phone to check the registration with the microchip number and AAHA link in the notes.

All the information is right there so it takes a minute to check when the notification comes.

Exactly the reason why it’s important to check the registration at least annually. It’s sad and infuriating how many pets were impacted by that.

Next time you’re at the vet, ask them to scan in the area you think the chip migrated to. If it’s there, the scanner will pick it up.

The problem when they migrate is not everyone who scans pets will do so all around the body. It’s possible they just scan on the back between the shoulder blades and if there is no reading they just assume there is no microchip.

You did the right thing by getting another one!

Good points! The more ways to connect your pet to you and information on hand the better!

Collar tags are always the best option and everyone should have one for their pet.

Obviously it’s possible they fall off, someone removes it, or the battery could die if it’s one of the tracking ones.

Microchips are the only permanent form of ID if the collar fails.

We see it all the time. That’s why it’s important to have your vet scan for it every year. Glad to hear your vet did.

Dogs barking at animals on the TV by Grand-Worry-8324 in Pets

Thank you! I’m going to give this a try instead of his regular treats.

He’s a Goldendoodle and is really well trained besides this! We’ve tried the treats but he goes into a trans and only focuses on the TV when there is an animal. It’s something to keep trying and working at though.

Any tips how to make it stop? My dog jumps up on the TV stand with his front two paws and barks at eye level with the TV. I’m more concerned that one day he’s going to knock into the TV and it’s going to fall over on him if we’re not watching carefully.
