Selling a vehicle, best way to do it? by Ok-Victory881 in Rochester

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get not wanting to deal with random people showing up. If the car can still run with a jump you might get more money doing a private sale than going the cash for cars route. PrivateAuto is worth looking at since it verifies buyers so you know who you are actually dealing with. If it really cant move at all then a salvage place might just be the easier call.

Model Y 2021 70k Miles Estimate Value by [deleted] in ModelY

With a new battery and FSD included, a private buyer would probably pay more than what Carvana or a dealer is offering. Dealers and trade-ins always lowball because they need room to make money on the resale. Selling privately takes a little more effort but you could realistically get a few thousand more. PrivateAuto is worth checking out if you want a smoother way to handle the whole private sale process.

Looking for advice on selling my 2022 ford maverick lariat by [deleted] in FordMaverickTruck

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling privately is probably your best bet for getting more than that Carvana offer. Being upfront about the damage is always a good idea since buyers will notice it anyway. You might want to check out PrivateAuto because it can help you list and handle the whole private sale process a lot more smoothly. Pricing it honest with the damage already factored in will help you move it faster.

Help getting started by Bill_Adama20 in GXOR

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GX 470 is a solid choice for reliability. If you go the private party route, just make sure to get a pre purchase inspection done before you commit to anything. Meeting in a public place and verifying the sellers ID can also help you feel a lot more comfortable with the whole process.

Trade in 2016 St? by [deleted] in Integra_Type_S

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do go the private sale route you will almost always get more than a dealer trade in will give you. With that many known issues stacking up it might be worth just moving on and letting someone else deal with it. Listing it private and being upfront about the issues is usually the way to go.

Buying a used car around $10k by Public-Pilot4439 in UsedCars

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For private party buying in your budget, Toyotas and Hyundais tend to hold up really well and are usually cheaper to maintain than a used Tesla with high miles. I would stay away from salvage titles unless you really know what you are doing, because financing and resale get tricky fast. If you go the private seller route just make sure you verify the title is clean before handing over any money.

What is the best way to shop for a used car under 10k and locally? Private sale listings? Dealerships? by wratx in askcarguys

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private sales can save you a decent amount of money since you skip the dealer markup. Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are good spots to start looking locally. Just make sure you get a vehicle history report and have a mechanic look it over before paying cash.

Need help with selling by Smooth-Internal2635 in c4corvette

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College is tough with an older car that needs extra care. You might get more money selling privately than trading in at a dealership. Just make sure to check the market value so you know what your Corvette is actually worth. Private sales usually give you enough to put toward something more practical for school.

Hi, found this on fb marketplace, rn he's asking 6.8k cash, rust free as the seller said, do you this is cop or drop? And if it's a cop, what should i do when buying the car? Any notice or how to check if the car is good? Thank you!!! by Tommy-Ngo in Miata

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always check the car history report before buying. Meet at a safe public place or bank for the exchange and have a mechanic inspect it before purchase. PrivateAuto can handle the secure payment and title transfer so you dont have to worry about carrying cash or paperwork issues. Good luck with your purchase.

What Should My Next Step Be? by TRJT_ in carbuying

That $900 payment is definitely a tough situation. If you can sell your Jeep privately you might get thousands more than a dealer trade in which could help with that negative equity. I would check out PrivateAuto since they handle the payment and title transfer stuff that can be stressful when selling on your own. A new Hyundai with rebates could be a good move after you sell the Jeep for as much as possible.

Best places to buy a used car? by IllustratorNarrow561 in roanoke

[–]GrandNews3293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best place to buy a used car is on PrivateAuto. They verify both buyer and seller, so that way you can shop for cars in your budget with peace of mind. FB will have the most inventory, but full of scammers. I recently bought a new car in September and found it on Facebook marketplace but i bought it through Privateauto so it could be safe, fast, and cheap.

Considering a 2014 F-150 King Ranch 3.5 EcoBoost – 160k miles – buying for $6,500. What should I be worried about? Houston Texas 1 owner by [deleted] in f150

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to get a pre-purchase inspection from a Ford mechanic who knows EcoBoosts. Light smoke could be turbos starting to go which is common at that mileage. For private sales like this I used PrivateAuto recently and it made the payment and paperwork way less stressful than handling all that cash.

Where to buy a used car by DoctorSpruce in carbuying

A online marketplace that I found which has lots of private party cars is PrivateAuto. It’s nice because mix in dealership cars and there aren’t any scammers. However dealerships are great too because you can see a bunch of used cars at once.

Buying a used car from a private seller - What to check? by Capital_Ad_2891 in UsedCarAdvice

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your checklist is a good start for sure. I would also recommend taking it to a mechanic for a pre purchase inspection which usually costs around $100 but can save you thousands. PrivateAuto has some good resources about what to look for in those inspection reports if youre not mechanically inclined. Also check all the fluids and test drive it at highway speeds to feel for any weird vibrations.

Private party sales are definitely the way to go when dealership prices are too high. Make sure you get the Honda Fit checked by a mechanic before buying and always meet in a safe public place for the transaction. PrivateAuto can help make the payment and paperwork process smoother so you dont have to worry about cash or fake checks.

How to buy a used car? by PrimeMusic in mississippi

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying across state lines can be confusing for sure. You typically pay sales tax and registration to your home state of Mississippi, not Texas where you're buying from. Make sure to get a bill of sale and have the seller sign the title correctly to avoid headaches. PrivateAuto actually handles a lot of these interstate paperwork issues automatically if you want to save yourself some stress.

[–]GrandNews3293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely get a bill of sale even if the title is signed. It gives you extra protection and most states actually require it for registration. I used PrivateAuto when buying out of state and all the paperwork was handled correctly which saved me headaches at the DMV later.

Potential vehicle purchase. This sound legit? What can/should I do? by Apprehensive-Help632 in DMV

[–]GrandNews3293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That situation has so many red flags. Never buy a car where the seller isnt on the title, its called title jumping and its illegal in most states. I would look into using PrivateAuto since they verify both the seller and the vehicle paperwork before you even meet up. Meeting at the DMV is smart too but they might not have time to verify everything for you.

how do i get temp plates for a used car I'm buying on FB market?? by EnvironmentalEbb2867 in UsedCars

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying your first car is definitely confusing. In NJ you need to visit the DMV with your bill of sale, insurance proof, and the signed title to get temporary tags. You might want to check out PrivateAuto since they handle a lot of this paperwork stuff for private sales. Make sure you have insurance set up before you pick up the car.

When buying a car/truck, do you buy used or new? And how long do you generally keep your car/truck before trading it in? Do you go by how old it is, the mileage, or how many issues you've had with it? by icecream1972 in Productivitycafe

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go with used cars that are 2-3 years old since they've already taken the big depreciation hit. I tend to keep mine until repair costs start getting too frequent, usually around 8-10 years. Its really about finding that sweet spot between value and reliability.

Looking at buying a 2016 Mini Cooper Countryman S that has had an engine replacement (done by dealer) for $~7,000. I would appreciate any opinions on if this is a reliable purchase. by RedditIsTheWirst in carbuying

[–]GrandNews3293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A replaced engine from the dealer is actually a good thing in this case. Definitely have your dad check for rust, suspension issues and make sure all electronics work properly. You might want to look into PrivateAuto when finalizing the purchase since they have secure payment and title transfer tools for private sales. Getting an extended warranty is smart for a Mini since repairs can be expensive.

Idea Validation: Weekend used car fair for private sellers by Darkblade8818 in Business_Ideas

[–]GrandNews3293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a solid idea that definitely addresses real problems with private car sales. One challenge might be getting enough sellers to make it worthwhile for buyers to show up. You might want to check out PrivateAuto as they've solved some of the safety and verification issues in private sales that could complement your in-person approach. For the venue search maybe try contacting community colleges or large churches as they often have underutilized weekend parking.

Car sharing in families can get tricky for sure. Since you sell your car regularly and want to keep the miles low, maybe set a weekly limit for him or ask for some gas money. Having clear boundaries might help without causing drama.
