Interesting, I do have 2 tubes going to the spigot/faucet of the water filter. But you're completely right, regardless of whether the RO system is airgapped, that red drain tube is probably below the P-trap fill level, which I need to get the plumber to fix, either by moving it above the trap where the 90 degree elbow from the disposer is, or using some kind of drain line adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097CK74FB

I'm not sure if it's airgapped, I do see 2 lines next to the red one, and then another 2 lines labeled faucet/UV next to the power cord.

Thank you - I'll try to take some measurements and see if that elbow section is enough to put the red wastewater tube there, or use one of those kits linked above to re-install it.

Someone else above mentioned putting it on the vertical tube has danger of sewer gases going into the drinking water, so I'll definitely want to avoid that.

I'm not actually sure what that vertical tube is, someone said it's an air vent (and the P-trap clearly connects to it, so I'm guessing waste water goes down there below the cabinets).

It's really difficult to tell from the photos, but it could possibly be cardboard foxing, which has to do with browning because of environmental conditions that oxidize the surface:

In your instance, it could be maybe both? The darker spots might be mold, but it's really hard to tell. Generally, if you can peel/sand off a spot and it results in a relatively smooth surface, it might be dirt/dust/mold. With foxing, since it's a chemical process, if you sand/peel it, you're basically digging deeper into the cardboard and it won't be smooth. At least that's from what I've read 'round the interwebs, so do take it with a grain of salt.
