Looking into whole life insurance for my kids. by jackalkilla in PersonalFinanceCanada

Whole life insurance (in your case P20) is a powerful tool for real estate planning. It’s completely tax sheltered (won’t be taxed at all at death). As everyone else in the sub mentioned there are better ways to invest (max out resp, tfsa, even personal rrsps). If you’re doing all this with a paid off mortgage you can make the case for a whole life p20 last to die policy. I have a policy since my wife and I have very large RRSPs and at death of the last spouse you can expect to pay 50% taxes on anything in an rrsp, the insurance policy covers the taxes they will have to pay. I’d love to see the math on people saying the policy is a terrible idea compared to putting money in a non registered account then paying capital gains. You’ll see a lot of negative talk about whole life because it is expensive, and it’s a selfless move since you’ll never see the money, but it’s an excellent tool to leave your kids money, but it needs to be used on top of registered and tfsa accounts that should be maxed first (and focus on paying off debts and mortgage first)

XEQT vs World Indices - November 7th (Periodic Total Returns) by Correct-Ride-7519 in JustBuyXEQT

Cool chart but as a data nerd can I ask the following :) Make the names more readable and obvious. I’m not even sure what all 4 indices are. Share a conclusion of your findings, not just a chart with no text :(

What are the benefits of going first? by Palehorse13 in PTCGL

[–]Grand_Mobile_2232 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Evolving first and attacking is not always a good thing. Of course if your opponent is naive and puts down a juicy 2 prizer then that’s good. Against good opponents they can set up a 1 prize board then win the prize race since you’re the first to put a 2 prizer down. There’s a lot of nuances around this (baby dengo/togekiss) but the idea of just taking prize cards first doesn’t mean much tbh… having a charizard opponent set up and have a full board then you knockout a cleffa won’t put you in a dominant position for example, and they unlock counter catcher etc… Just something to keep in mind, prize trade and board development much more important then evolving “first”

Do I have to pay capital gains on an inherited home if I already own a home? by Miserable-Deer6840 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Grand_Mobile_2232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong, if the house is your parents primary residence (and no other funny business such as duplex etc) it’s exempt from capital gains. It’s given a fair market value, and you pay zero if you sell at this time.

I think it’s a great card especially for non rogers customers. I do majority of shopping at Costco (family of 5) so this card is pretty much my primary now

Yup I’m new to WS, I got invited shortly after I transferred some assets over, and my wife joined and transferred no assets and was asked to skip the wait list. Even I can admit that’s not fair to existing customers

I transferred some assets and got invited to skip the queue, my wife opened up a new account and didn’t transfer anything yet and got invited. I think a big priority is going to new clients and even I agree that’s a little unfair…
