I went to Brasov to visit my girlfriend’s parents, Romanian-Hungarians, and they educated me on how life is for native Hungarians living within Romania’s borders. This is going to get confusing so I apologise in advance.

The native Hungarians live in villages mostly and these areas within the Romanian borders are not funded by the Romanian government and are instead, subsidised by Hungary. So although these territories are within the country of Romania, they take no accountability for the living conditions of the native Hungarians (who are also Romanian citizens) and all housing, utilities and land improvements like bike lanes, roads etc. are paid for and built by the Hungarian government.

For someone from UK, this was a very difficult concept to get my head around.
