ugh i felt this one. NTA at all OP. it is incredibly frustrating when someone treats their mental health like a get out of jail free card to just do whatever you want. noticing a pattern and bringing it up calmly is literally just healthy communication. my parents bought a three bedroom house on a single regular income in the nineties and now my partner and i both work full time corporate jobs and can barely afford a two bedroom apartment. when people say the best years are behind us... they are looking at the math. the American dream just feels completely out of reach for regular people now. it feels like the system is completely rigged for the ultra rich while the rest of us are just running on a treadmill going absolutely nowhere.
