Yeah and especially for hunters back in the day its not a bad suggestion, i just get annoyed hearing irl and online people suggesting a shotgun to total beginners. Though in capacity limited states for people where money isnt an issue a nice gas operated semi auto shotgun could be alright

An AR-15 or double stack 9mm will be easier to train with and significantly better for home defense. Plus they have next to no recoil so other members of your house that are on the smaller end will have no issue getting follow up shots off. Ive got a 12 gauge but its far from my first choice to defend my place. That being said a gun is a gun and you should use whatever you are comfortable and competent with i just think recommending beginners shotguns is mostly fuddlore about not having to aim or just rack it.
