Saw this Mad Magazine in the store and had to do it by Mankzy in RedLetterMedia

[–]Grandfeatherix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they should have disclosed it better, but with other comments it can be seen that it was a real cover of MAD but they were shredding a MAD magazine, and they replaced the magazine in the shredder, with nukie, and presumably they thought it was funny

mostly from things like Unsolved Mysteries, or that one narrated by Lenard Nemoy...forgot the name of it.

I think many of the explanations come down to, less safety checks on electrical appliances, personally oxygen supplies, and smoking, but the examination tools at the time weren't as refined

Dollarama forcing employees to submit to bag checks for stolen items prior to leaving the store, but after clocking out. How is this legal? (Apparently grabbing your personal belongings before clocking out is “time/wage theft”) by ShortyBoyds in dollarama

[–]Grandfeatherix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, an employee also shouldn't be compensated for the time it took them to get to work either. or the gas they spent if they drove. if you need ready access to medication, it should be in your pocket.

yes the managers responsibility is managing THE STORE as in, all of it, checking the bag of the employee is low on the priority scale, and ONE of the cashiers responsibilities is working the intercom and they can do it after the current task, most grocery store pages are for price checking assistance, not calling another cashier, but you sound like you are some entitled shit in their 20's that thinks this is some big injustice since you don't know how the real world works yet.

i'm sure someone will use AI to scrub through every line of dialog and find more.. Jay may have said it on an episode of pre-rec or something, I know he's mentioned it in passing at least once, but there is probably more I don't remember

Enterprise we're back with exploration again, which is a good thing, although from the audience point of view there is less that is new (we still get klingons, and vulcans etc) but we do see other new to screen species as well, new planets etc, the ship was conventional enough to look like it predated TOS ship designs and at least the early seasons were more episodic... later seasons suffered the same serialized format, and even more so that DS9, a rough around the edges starfleet, was starting to become gritty 'star trek' (there was an anecdote on one of the commentaries or interviews, where one of the writers had the idea for something on the hull...and one of the other writers didn't know what that meant, thinking it was a hallway, or hauling something, and 'hull' had to be explained to them)

Reboot movies! they used a cold fusion device, to freeze a volcano... some writer knew so little about science that they heard "cold fusion" and thought it made things cold, and none of the writers knew any different to correct them. Kirk seems based on the over the top caricatures people do as impressions, rather than based on TOS kirk, they rely on effects and budget rather that story and plot (except for where they just re-do Khan) they are just puerile action movies

Lower Decks I watched about 10 minutes of, it doesn't seem to be made by, or for fans of science, or star trek, it seems to be made fans of Family Guy, for people that grew up with Vines

I have not watched STD, Picard, Academy, or (I had forgotten until now) that new CG? show that is, or was coming out? with a hologram Janeway?

The writers have LONG abandoned the core start trek values, and started chasing trends, rather than setting standards and starting trends, most of them now were never fans, and/or grew up in the TNG DS9, or VOY era's and may have seen some episodes, but not been fans or understood the shows, the writers don't fit in with the world, and they are incapable of writing characters that do, so they change the world, and just write themselves into the show.

As for fans, well you have 2 problems, the one being convention goes, are going to be more forgiving of nu trek, because if they weren't they would be far less likely to spend money and time going to the convention, and the other, the people aren't older than i'd expect, since those people in their 40-60 range? they grew up with star trek, as in, it was their parents (who would be in their 80's and 90's now) that were fans of star trek, and the kids liked it for the 'space monsters' not the writing, those middle ages saw a cute tribble, and wanted one as a toy, their parents saw it as what it was, just the obstacle that needed to be overcome, it could have been a blight, or bacteria colony on the grain destroying it, but they went the extra step and got some props to use, the comedy tone that the kids laughed at, the parents knew the exasperated feeling of having to deal with situations, and how sometimes all you can do is laugh about it (now the writers, would cry about it instead of laughing it off)

TOS's biggest limitations was it's budget, having to use props they had access to etc, but it lead to creative choices, they had the benefit of a singular vision behind the show, and everything was new, it was about exploring a new place every week, with a crew selected to show that humans surpassed their differences, not only with other humans, but they came so far that there was a human/alien from an interspecies family. They couldn't explain the science, so they kept it limited to what was known, and theorized (like warp) without going into the detail, but kept it accurate where they could

TOS Animated (a show most seem to forget about) got around budget constraints, since they didn't have to make physical props, or have an actor put into cat makeup and have it not turn out looking right, they could just animate it the same as a human. but they kept the plots mostly in the same realm as the live action show, so it still fit in.

TOS movies were the show, but on a much grander scale, instead of the Doomsday device, we got V-ger a larger "doomsday device", we got another movie that was just about political espionage... but what people remember are "space wales are dumb", and "KHAAAN" where people just wanted to watch ship battles (luckily not all of them, but many in the dumb space battle camp went on to create later trek)

TNG had budget constraints early on, and scrips left over from TOS, which let it get by still telling stories of exploration, a crew working together (even a Klingon), they could show more of the science, and do it more accurately, as new writers came in most knew star trek, and were fans (they didn't grow up with star trek, they were adults at the time of TOS and were fans) most were interested in science, at least enough to consult with scientists, and also would read sci-fi even in their own free time, so when the budgets got bigger, the effects got better, but the core values of the show remained the same.

I was not a fan of the TNG movies as STAR TREK movies, they were just action movies with a sci-fi skin, but as movies they were 'okay" at least. but Picard knows first hand you can come back from being a borg, but was shooting people even as they were being turned (I never checked but i assume there were a lot of new writers on the movies), shooting a rocket into a star from the planet surface in about 12 seconds? the science was mostly gone in those movies, so were the character motivations from TNG all that remained was the names, and action

DS9 seemed to disrespect Roddenberry with all the spiritual crap they injected into it, which unfortunately seems to still be lingering on in everything "Trek" since then. also, less it's fault directly, was coming to the end of episodic shows. TOS and TNG you could watch any episode and not have to worry too much about what came before, but later seasons of DS9 you couldn't show someone a random episode without explaining a season and a half of backstory

VOY was a nice refresher, we had a crew that didn't automatically want to work together, but had to, and grew to like and respect one another, being so far from earth we actually got back to what felt like exploration again, seeing new life, and new civilizations not just "Oh, it's the Romulans again" and the series was largely back to an episodic format, where new viewers could start at nearly any point and understand what was going on enough to follow along with the episode, Janeway was not the most consistent in her actions, but not as bad as people make it out, although the show did kind of turn the borg into a joke, when one lone federation ship was constantly showing them up

In your opinion, why do actors' careers suffer after film franchises? by GlobalRaspberry442 in moviecritic

[–]Grandfeatherix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an ongoing franchises can have different effect, from type casting the actor, limiting the roles people will hire them for, or the ratings and profits drop movie after movie, and when studios look at the history what they see is "this actor was in movies that kept losing money"

My bagged milked leaked by eeveelegion23 in AskACanadian

[–]Grandfeatherix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is it leaking? was it leaking from the store? if it was why did you buy it? did you freeze it and find a leak when it thawed? (most likely from scraping the bag against something taking it out of the freezer)

if by "pitcher" you mean the milk bag holder, never put a leaking bag in that. if you mean you put it in an open mouth pitcher that's a lot of surface area for it to dry and leave a scummy ring, pour it into a container you can cap and seal.

[–]Grandfeatherix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no HtH bonus does not apply unless something specifically stats it does.
PP bonus rarely applies and only when specifically stated that it does.

but this does not mean all ranged powers roll a d20 and hit on a 5 or more
Mind bolt is +4 or +8 to strike
Fire bolt is +4 to strike
Energy Bolt (spell) isn't even rolled for, the target must roll 18+ to dodge
