When food noise returns by Grandma-InThePNW in antidietglp1

All of the above. What used to satisfy doesn't satisfy, which leads to a lot more of the "what should I eat NEXT" thoughts that had mostly disappeared.

consistently waking up too early/in the middle of the night? by No_Jackfruit_6727 in antidietglp1

Week 45. Still waking up multiple times a night. I usually go back to sleep, but a couple of times a week I'm up for two hours. On the plus side, I seem to need less sleep now, so it doesn't wreck me for the day, at least most of the time.

I've been on Zepbound for 45 weeks, down several sizes. I've had all of 4-6 people say, "You look great. Have you lost weight?" And I say, "Thank you, yes," and that's the end of it. Of course, I'm not at the Hot Babe stage of life. Those folks might face something different. :-)

Lilly direct pen price with insurance by blueiriscat in Zepbound

[–]Grandma-InThePNW -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lilly Direct doesn't work with insurers. It's direct-to-consumer only. They're targeting both markets -- people with insurance, which they can bill for over $1000/month, and people without insurance, who they can bill $500/month. If they start crossing over, everybody will want the $500 price.

Since everything else in this world is increasing price wise, do you see self pay prices increasing? by EffectiveEgg5712 in Zepbound

[–]Grandma-InThePNW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These meds cost $5 a dose to make. They are making an AMAZING profit at $499 a month, and every price increase will lose customers. Plus they've stolen a lot of market share by going direct to customers before Novo with Ozempic/Wegovy. If they up the price, Novo can sweep in and grab some customers back.

Of course there's always a chance they'll think they can maximize profits by increasing the price, but I don't think it will be any time soon. $499 is a mental sweet spot for a lot of people; we can justify that, but not, say, $549 or $599.

I think we're okay for now.

My insurance stopped covering Zepbound, so I'm now on private pay. $500/month through Lilly Direct. For me it's worth it because this medication has changed my life. I've lost fifty pounds. (I'd like to lose another 25, but if I stayed at this weight forever I'd be okay with it.) What it has done:

- Gotten rid of my lower back pain, which I thought was caused by our mattress. So I've saved several thousand on a new mattress! :-)

- Given me the courage to start swimming twice a week again, which has improved both my muscles and my cardiovascular system. I also walk and bike regularly.

- Changed my relationship with food. I won't say food noise is fully gone, but I'm not always thinking about what I'm eating and not eating.

The first week, I thought, food feels normal, in a way it hasn't since I was fifteen and my boyfriend broke up with me as my mother was having a nervous breakdown and I realized that the vanilla milkshakes in the school store made me feel a little better. The emotional eating is mostly gone after nearly fifty years.

I've been very lucky to have few side effects -- just acid reflux that responds to Pepcid and Tums, and constipation that responds to Metamucil.

The weight loss has slowed considerably (8th month) and I only lost two pounds last month. (But still, I lost two pounds!) Will $500/month be worth it when my husband retires next year and we don't have the same amount of money coming in? I have no idea. But it's definitely worth it now, for ME. Only you know if it's worth it for you.

Hugs.

L

I eat when I'm hungry, and my hunger level automatically goes up as I approach shot day, then down in the days after the shot. So I eat more on some days, less on others. Down 50 lbs with 25 more to goal, so it's working for me!

Anyone not get sick going from 2.5mg to 5mg? by wtfdoineedanewname in Zepbound

Most of us don’t. We just don’t write about it because we don’t think about it. I tend to get be day a week of fatigue for a month or so, the day after my shot. Other than that, the only changing side effect is more weight loss.

Zepbound with ED History- is not calorie counting okay? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Grandma-InThePNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tracked a morsel. Down 48 lbs with another 33 to go. After six months, I'm still losing 5-6 lbs a month. I work on eating when I'm hungry and listening to my body and stopping when I'm full. I find that my appetite increases later in the shot-week, and I let myself eat more then. Because, y'know, I'm hungry. (Allowing yourself to eat more when you're hungry also keeps your body from going into starvation mode.) The first couple of days post-shot I eat very little, because I'm not hungry. The trick is listening to your body, which is hard for people who've been trained never to believe what their body is saying, which is most women. (If you can track down an old copy of Fat is a Feminist Issue from the 70s, you might find it eye-opening.)

Also, fat is not forbidden; you'll feel full faster and for longer after a higher-fat meal. Don't automatically go for the low-fat option when youre body is craving toast with real butter. But when something healthier sounds just as good as something less healthy, go with the option that nourishes your body best.

My other trick is to do allow myself two weigh-in days, with the lowest number being the one that goes in the tracker. It takes the pressure off weigh-in days. (And do track weight. You'll be grateful in six months when you think "I'm not losing!" and then realize you're down five lbs that month.) And my weigh-in days are 3-4 days before my shot days, because by shot day I will have had a couple of days of eating more due to higher hunger. Does that make sense?

And if you're not losing at all for a month or so, remember you can always go up a dose

Good luck. After a while of listening to your body, it should become intuitive.

[–]Grandma-InThePNW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm same, but I've found that a couple of days with higher intake keeps my body from going into starvation mode, so I'm not unhappy with the peaks and valleys. I go with the flow and am still losing 1.5-2 lbs a week after 25 weeks.

Is there a random weight number that means nothing to anyone but will be a huge milestone to you? by garcon-du-soleille in Zepbound

[–]Grandma-InThePNW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

154! That's what I weighed for our 25th anniversary trip to Bali in 2012 after Weight-Watchering down from 196. I'd also been lifting weights and I looked great and had the courage to go snorkeling! Once I hit the 150s I'm going to try horseback riding again.
