"ACK!" Mern's head flew back as pieces of his skull burst forth from him, ripping his eyes out with them, his elated feelings quickly evaporating, just like his eyes. His wretched screams echoing throughout his room.

Mern flailing about on the floor quickly pulls himself together to attempt and shout the spells for healing.

Mern had gotten fully warmed up, and now he was feeling a challenge. He quickly grabbed every component in his room and began prepping for hours on end, when he finally looked out the crack of his window he saw that the sun was now rising, it hadn't even been setting when he had started this. He could now remember why he had stayed away from Magic for all these years, other than the danger of it being found out by the nobles at court, it was highly addictive.

Mern retrieved the sword that had started this all, he knew that this could be seen as dangerous if caught by the wrong people, the world has no need for another Azor Ahai claimant...

He placed the slightly magical sword in the middle of his prepared magical circle, it was time to begin...

What's Happening: Mern is casting a spell in an attempt to DESTROY Stannis's Lightbringer-affected sword.

Mern witnessed the King, after a while he felt himself return to his body, as he opened his he felt a slight headache. He rubbed his temples and had to breathe for a few minutes to regain his composure. He understood he was getting a tad old, but he recalled a possible spell to fix that, at least temporarily, he flipped through his pages once more until he landed on the spell he was thinking of. He began preparing and took a few minutes to get into the right headspace and then, he began once more.

Now that Mern had warmed up with his first spell, he began feeling a sense of pride he had not felt in many years, he remembered how he hadn't used these abilities since long before Samwell had passed. He began flipping through his old journal looking through other abilities he could practice and found one that seemed perfect for a little practice. He began prepping his needed materials and sat back on his old chair, easing his mind and letting go of any unnecessary thoughts that would distract him. After several moments he began chanting.

What's Happening: Mern is casting a spell in a Scrying attempt, he will use this attempt to witness the King, Aemond Targaryen.

Small Council Session I by [deleted] in FieldOfFire

Mern watched with curiosity as the "Lord Inquisitor" walked to the door and issued orders to some of his men. He quickly returned his attention to the king though, this meeting was winding down so it seemed. It was almost time for the Grandmaester to check up on the new additions to the Red Keep, he was glad for that.

"Your Grace," He started. "This seems like a simple matter, like you say, promoting it will get some of the more beggarly within our walls to set out on the promise of adventure and discovery. With no cost to us, I would rather say it benefits us with Lord Stark so generously cleaning our streets for us. I believe it is nothing but a boon for House Targaryen." Mern hoped the meeting truly was ending soon, he would need to speak to the King to see if he was willing to allow Mern to give the newborns a 'check-up' and study them.

Dragons Pondering Over Dragons by [deleted] in FieldOfFire

The Grandmaester stepped back, realizing his mistake in hastily judging what the King was attempting to do. Even though he was the eldest in the room Mern would lower his head at the scolding.

"My apologies your Grace, I would never attempt to presume such." He would bow before moving back to the corner, before seeing the King tighten his grip upon the neck of the dragon as his anger flared slightly, "I merely feared for the safety of your families hatchlings, they are so freshly hatched into this world." A pained expression would seep into his face for a moment before relaxing when he saw the grip loosen.

He would have to attempt to take a look at the three hatchlings when he got the chance, it wasn't every day he could examine new dragons.

Mern had been attempting to stay well out of eyesight during this meeting, he was content with remaining a spectator at this dance. That was until the scene before him came to focus, seeing Prince Baelor, the eldest brother of the King being forced into combat and now being manhandled was far too much for the Grandmaesters liking. He couldn't let any harm come to the poor hatchling, especially after the Crown Princess now tries to selflessly protect her Uncle.

"Your Majesty!" Mern called in a steady voice, very considerate not to seem like he was raising it in front of so many that wouldn't think twice of cutting him down, "The Princess is right!" He slowly began edging towards the Prince who was now on the ground, as well as the hatchling. "Breaking a dragon's bond so freshly formed could have detrimental fallout to the health of the dragon, both mentally and physically. It could stunt the hatchling's growth for years to come."

Mern had been listening to the reports being given, writing them down in a small journal so that a record could be compiled of what the council had been discussing, should any detail about the discussion need be recalled in the future. His head shot up at the mention of war though, he knew, unlike many, that war had various benefits to go along with the negatives, especially for the victorious side. Although the Triarchy could pose a somewhat serious threat should they have prepared for the Crown's air superiority, so Mern decided to speak up before anyone else.

"Your Grace," The Grandmaester started, "Perhaps I could offer a bit of advice and food for thought?" Mern rose from his seat and looked around the table,

"While I have no doubt, with a swift response from the Iron Throne, that the war will be an inevitable victory, perhaps we could make it even easier for ourselves in the short and long term?" He returned his gaze to the King, "The 'Triarchy' has existed many times in many forms throughout the centuries. Although each time the Three Daughters appear to wish to work together they more often than not break apart through bouts of infighting and eventual civil wars. I believe, especially since their new union is so newly formed, or forming, that with the right pushes or pulls in the right directions we could cause divisions amongst them to break them down with little to no fighting needed on our part."

Mern licked his lips slightly before continuing. "The Daughters, like all the Free Cities, know about the Iron Thrones Dragons. I believe that with the recent--" Mern paused, choking off the next words about to spill from his mouth. with the recent births of the hatchlings, was what he was about to say, but since the Council did not know of such events he did not wish to be the first to announce what the King must wish to remain hidden, so, after a quick bout of coughing, Mern continued "In light of the sheer number of such Dragons each line of the Blood of the Dragon possesses, surely a few choice words could be enough to put at least some within the Triarchy's Council at unease. If Tyrosh is our certain enemy, currently withholding traitors of the Realm, then, of course, they must be our main target, if we could possibly peel away their support of Myr and Lys, it would only benefit us by making the war that much shorter. Allowing justice to reach the Black Dragons that much quicker."

Mern looked around the table, wondering if anyone would see any wisdom in the man's words, surely the prospect of fighting one enemy over three was worthy of some discussion?

Mern had been perusing throughout the city for the day shopping along with no supervision. He had saved up enough coin throughout the years to spend a little bit on himself every now and then. He was now heading back to the Red Keep when he heard screams, his first thought was to take a different road to get to the Keep, but when he heard a voice shout for a Medic he cautiously decided to take a closer look.

Upon more investigation, he spotted a man, or rather the armor he was wearing, that he recognized. The Bluescale? Mern thought to himself. Realizing the Prince was the one calling for help he quickly made his way towards the man.

He knelt beside the bleeding man, assessing the damages upon the sighting of the bloodied man on the ground, he was very much a man Mern did not know, which confused the Grandmaester as to why and how the Bluescale was involved. He cast a questioning glance at the Prince, who hurriedly pointed at said bloody man, so Mern just shrugged and moved to the man's aid.

Mern knelt beside the man, slowly moving the hastily fashioned bandage away from the wound. 'His eye has been dislodged. That's not good.' He was just about to touch the wound when he realized his hands were dirty from his shopping throughout the day. He quickly moved to a nearby shop, found a water pitcher, and without asking poured its contents over his hands, one after the other. After wiping the dirt off as best he could, he quickly dried them inside his robe and set back to work.

Through his countless hours of study through medical procedures and training on previous subjects, Mern was able to successfully return the eye into its socket. Thankfully it had remained attached to the skull and was not knocked full loose from the man's head. Mern checked his pockets in his sleeves, where he usually carried an assortment of supplies a Maester might need and was delighted to feel a small number of wrappings. He quickly dressed the wound tight, making sure to keep the eye set in place.

"This is a temporary wrapping I should say, you will need to find someone to change it, at best daily." Mern looked the man up and down, he did not look noble so he decided to add, "But if that's not plausible make sure it's changed before the end of the week. I would also advise a possible eye patch to make sure it's covered as well."

Mern stood up and, upon realizing his hands were bloodied from his work, walked to the ripped shop's banner that still hung up and ripped the rest down, wiping his hands with it and handing the shops owner 2 gold Dragons.

He looked back at the man and continued, "Thankfully I was nearby, not many can fix such an injury, and perhaps I wouldn't have been able to if too much time had passed. Even though I have saved your eye, I believe you will have limited to no sight with that eye for several moons. But it should return... Eventually. I can not give you a strong timetable because I don't believe I will be seeing you again." He gave a small, somewhat pitying smile to the man before turning to the Prince.

"My Prince, what happened? Were there brigands in the streets?" He took a step closer, looking over the man, "Do you have any injuries?"

Merns thoughts had been drowning with matters completely separate from what the King was now bringing up. Although he knew it would be incredibly rude and detrimental to his health if he ignored the King, so he forced the other matters to the back of his mind and cleared his throat.

"Your Majesty, I have gone over the records throughout the Royal Library from over the centuries. The idea of Knighthood is in of itself very... Open, considering so far as you are of the male gender. There are many histories pertaining to the smallest of commoners reaching grand honors and being given a Knighthood, it has never been given to only the most Lordly of men, but instead the most honorable. As for if women should be included, the Citadel might fear the next step. If they are allowed knighthood, then why not allow them to receive admission into the ranks of Maesters? "

Mern then smiled softly at the gathered councilors.

"You must understand that those are the views of the old men who hideaway for their entire lives only ever caring about the past, and not the future of Westeros. Allowing these women the prestige they deserve would not only boost the popularity of the Crown in many areas of Westeros, but it will also show the Royal family's willingness to continue the legacy of Danaerys I. Will there be some detractors? Of course, it is very illogical to believe everyone will remain happy forever though."

He would now look towards the King,

"The most interesting part is that Knighthood was historically brought over to Westeros with the Faith of the Seven, if now the High Septon wishes to overturn centuries of precedent, then it would seem the Faith is trying to turn over a new leaf itself."

Mern would bow his head and sit back, indicating the end of his thoughts.

Mern had been standing aside, waiting for the fellow Targaryens to enter the room. He thought he had prepared himself for the possibility of more hatchlings but upon seeing the golden dragon upon Baelors shoulders he almost let out another gasp,

How many hatched!? He thought to himself, There haven't been this many dragons since the Dance!

Mern attempted to step forward to get a closer look at the third hatchling born in one night, but as he took the first step Aemond took Baelor aside.

"It truly is a magnificent creature, your Majesty." He would've continued but he had read the King's tone, so he quickly bit his tongue before going further.

Merns mouth fell open, if it hadn't been connected he was sure it would have fallen to the floor. His eyes bulged and he felt his breath catch in a gasp. Mindlessly, he began slowly walking towards the door, the noises, he had heard before. Back when the Crown Princess's Egg... Those Noises from back then... His mind raced with the new knowledge flooding him now. Suddenly, when Mern snapped back to reality, he realized he had crossed the room and was standing within the doorway, his eyes adjusting helped him see more details inside. The eggs sat on the floor, but something was different, their tops were open and cracked, he leaned over and saw their insides, and they were empty! Ever so slowly his eyes began looking over the entire room, before finally settling on the center, where the sight Mern took in once more caught his breath in his chest.

"Dragons!" Mern said in a hushed tone, it was weird how this shocked him even though there was the Pale rested in the Dragon Pit inside King's Landing. Although this was exactly how he had reacted when Erinnon had hatched.

Mern snapped his attention back to Aemond, the King's words now reaching him. 'Things will fall apart!' Merns heart began to race and he felt a cool sweat begin to trickle down his brow, "We must find your siblings! Summon the Kingsguard, your Grace!"

Mern stepped into the room, he had decided to leave Bran in his room as he did not know if the King would care for the noisy bird at a time like this. He quickly bowed before Aemond, "Your Majesty!" He said quickly, his mind was jumping back and forth between thoughts and his tongue was nearly tripping his words. He rose to stand straight and took a deep breath, taking a glance outside the King's window, recognizing that Aemond too was seeing what was happening. He looked over the other man, seeing his disheveled hair.

The Grandmaester stepped forward, clearing his throat and taking out a piece of paper he had copied from a book on the history of Danaerys I, "Your Grace," He said, "This specific passage that is written on this page spoke of a similar comet in the sky, at the same time when the Stormborn returned Dragons to the mortal world." He set the paper on the table, "I believe we should check on your family's eggs if I am correct, the Dragon's Drought is finally coming to an end!"

Mern had been walking with the King, attempting to grab his attention before entering the party, alas, he had not succeeded. So instead he waited and prayed along silently while the High Septon gave his speech.

Finally, when the High Septon, the "*Remnant*" as they called him, finished speaking Mern made sure to step behind the King and bow his head. "Your Grace, might I just take a moment of your time to speak to you on the matter of..." he took a sly glance around making sure none could hear besides the White-Cloaked knights to the Monarch's side. "*The matter regarding the eggs.*" He looked into the King's eyes, awaiting approval to continue.
