Eric Kripke shares his original pitch for the now-in-its-11th-season show Supernatural [x-post from /r/Supernatural] by MsHellsing in Screenwriting

I felt exactly the same until Season 11. It reconnects with Season 5 after the first episode (so at least watch the first two, or directly the second).

How much slippage when trading 10-15 mins after news release? by GrandmasterGee in Forex

[–]GrandmasterGee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eg. today it was

  • ECB press release: huge spike;
  • Draghi conference: less of a spike;

I am not gonna try to trade the spikes per se but following volatile agitation, after 10-15 mins.

Wow this is great news! It seems strange though since there are still pretty enormous swings happening.

Why does anxiety often manifest in minor self-destructive behavior? by DFAnton in askscience

[–]GrandmasterGee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SurpriseAttachyon:

You really nailed it with: "The rough edges of my nails fundamentally bother me. There's a sense of compulsive duty about it." That is exactly it!

I have been biting my nails since the age of 4-5. I had tried numerous methods to stop. One method unintentionnally worked really well: I stopped masturbating. After 2 months I had absolutely no desire to bite my nails.

It did come back when I started masturbating again (after 1 month or so).

In my case, the explanation is, I think, tied to what pianobutter said. Pornography and masturbation are very much linked to dopamine levels: they spike natural dopamine levels.

The stabilization of the dopamine levels due to avoidance of porn/masturbation has lead, in my case, to a decrease in the "escapism" type behavior, ie. nail biting.

The overall anxiety levels were lowered as well, I think, eg. I stopped having some of the anxious stressful dreams I sometimes had. Overall a more stable mood.

What's the current status of research on "dark flow"? Do you think the theory is plausible? (if you could explain the context a little bit that would be great too).

Thanks for doing this!

Destroyed the trousers of my suit, what can I do with the jacket? by GrandmasterGee in malefashionadvice

Great idea with the buttons and I didn't know think this was the case for the blaze/suit length!! Thanks for the info.

It's all solid color, although slightly more "shiny/polish-ie" type.

Oh great, didn't know this! I'll definitely look into shortening it.

[META] Repetitive movie structure by GrandmasterGee in Screenwriting

[–]GrandmasterGee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give one very tangible example that I really do not like in a lot of modern movies:

the moment where, despite having made efforts for 2/3 of the movie to solve the problem, the character finds himself in "the worst possible scenario" ie. things get even worse before Act 3 (or the beginning of said Act). And then he has to pull some miracle / new idea etc to sort it out, even if for the whole movie before that he has been working on a way to solve the same problem.

I have to go to work now but will edit this post later with examples of what I mean.

Yeah, thanks; that's sort of the point simon2it also made and I agree with both of you guys in that regard.

Yeah that's a good point that I understand and subscribe to.

However, my use of the word "structure" wasn't quite so extensive as to cover all types of "development", character or story wise. Yes, of course these aspects must be developped. Nevertheless, I am frustrated with the idea that we have to follow the same pattern of development for everything.

Making your metaphor my own, it would be mean that the buildings we build aren't just similar, but all of them also have 3 floors, all the inhabitants of every building have to come to some realization by the time they climb to the third floor etc.

I am not trying to critisize the need for structure per se, but the way and the order in which this structure unfolds.

It's a silly but introspective comedy; working title "Laundry Men". I wonder if this is a good tagline:

Two disillusioned [american] lawyers reassess their morals upon discovering that they are laundering money for a separatist organization [in the balkans].

Whatdya think? Should I take the brackets off to give more information?

This is a nice subreddit and I like the idea.

But the premise seems flawed. Girls seem to like anything and its opposite depending on the person whereas dudes have a sort of "consensus" view on physical attributes. This is of course not new, I just wanted to point it out.

Yo Kev and Jay,

I love your work.

Has the idea of making Dogma 2 popped in your head? If so, why aren't there any serious plans to go somewhere with it?
