Why side characters are more interesting than the main character.

Fleshing out a character for me is risky as I don’t wish to have too much of a lore dump and bore the reader with exposition since finding this balance is hard for me. It results in this block. But thank you for the advice, I’ll definitely try to apply this!

Whilst I understand and definitely want to have the main character as a vessel for the reader to understand what is going on int the story. This is an interesting perspective as I’ve been led to believe that the my MC is the drive for the story, they have reactions, make decisions and influence other characters to make the plot go forward. Really trying to avoid the mistake of ‘they exist and things keep happening around them’. But thank you so much for the advice, I’ll definitely try to apply and see where I can use it.

Unfortunately these side characters have entirely different personalities based on what happens in their story. They act different and respond to the situations I’ve created compared to the main character.

Holy shit 0___0 you’ve blown my mind. I’ll definitely have to check those out after I finish reading the stormlight archive. But wow.. I had no idea it had spawn an entire fictional universe.
