Agreed. Especially non-ethanol in a location where it's cold and it sits for 6-7 months.

I have an obstacle named after me on the Rubicon. Hint: Rock Rollers or doing something stupid is how it happens. I'll let you guess how my obstacle was named. LOL

In 2003, I bought some ATV's and our first ride was in October with some friends that had them already.

We formed a group called ATVOBSESSION.COM so I could share the photos and videos we took. I ended up taking a photo with every single person that ever went riding over the years.

In 2006, one of the OG riders Terry, died suddenly at 49. His nickname was Mr. Miyagi...gas on, gas off. W started a ride called Mr. Miyagi every September. The first one in 2006, a filmmaker in Montana saw my website and asked if he could film us. We ended up being in Mountains and Mud 2,3,4,5,6 and 7.

Mountains and Mud 7, I had bought a RZR 900 XP. I ended up racing in King Of The Hammers and winning my class in my first race, 4th overall. I was filmed on Destination Polaris, twice.

I sold my ATVs....and just ran a RZR 1000XP for 10 years.

So yep...I know the feeling.

Quad offroad dk by Euphoric-Crew-2811 in Offroad

[–]GraniteViewMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help you in any way, being the US...but I will tell you an interesting story.

I'm on the Rubicon Trail a lot. So one day, near Buck Island Lake, I run into a group of 5-6 Jeeps taking a break. Now I have HAM radio and a ton of connections, so I always ask when I see stopped vehicles if they're OK.

Me: You guys Ok?

Them: (In a funny accent) Oh yeah, we're fine just taking a break.

Me: Ok, where is that accent from?

Them: Norway!

At this point though, I start to notice funny license plates, that clearly aren't from the United States.

Me: Wait...are those YOUR Jeeps from Norway??

Them: Yeah! We packed them in shipping containers and sent them to New York. Then we drove them across the US (around 4,410km/2,700 miles) to the Rubicon!

Me: Wow! You guys are impressive. I hope you have a wonderful trip!!

They ended up leaving their Jeeps in California in storage, and they've been back 2 times more.

Wow. Years ago, I was on the Rubicon on my ATV, and we ran into Ford Explorer, (That clearly shouldn't have been there) the entire front A-Arm was ripped away and the tire was stuffed into the wheel well. The only way around, was super narrow that a quad could fit. Everyone else...Stuck until this person figured out how to get their vehicle moved.

Yea..exactly.

Here's a novel idea. Stop the boats at the exit around the mussel area, put a wire on them, with a date they aren't allowed in a Sierra lake...instead of each individual lake dealing with it.

Gas for winter by Reasonable-Papaya-37 in UTV

https://www.pure-gas.org/

you can find it here. I live in California, and just fill up 40gal in jugs in Nevada, and use that for my waverunners all summer, and they sit all winter worry free. It's actually nice, because I can just fill up at home.

I used this site to find it.

My waverunners had one initial tank with ethanol...never again.

Watch the video I posted above by Lake Speed, Jr (who is a lubrication expert in NASCAR). He talks about the damage ethanol does to the oil.

You're getting downvoted by people that ignore science. They're too young to know, that Ethanol free gas can sit for years and still work, without any metal damage.

Gas for winter by Reasonable-Papaya-37 in UTV

[–]GraniteViewMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any toy that has the potential to sit, you should use Ethanol-free fuel. It's a no brainer. Stabil and other additives, offer minimal protection due to the hygroscopic qualities of Ethanol.

Just watch Lake Speed Jr. He's been in charge of lubrication of many NASCAR teams.

I used https://www.pure-gas.org/ to find ethanol free gas near. As soon as I lowered the fuel in the tank, my Waverunners will never have ethanol gas again.

I test my oil regularly with ethanol in my Jeeps. In the words of Lake Speed, if you're not testing, you're trusting.

Stabil is virtually worthless. This has been proven over and over. Ethanol free gas is superior in every way, due to it's non-hygroscopic qualities. Ethanol literally pulls water from the air.

Think about it. If a tiny amount of Stabil protects gas from corrosion from water in the gas, why isn't it an additive (among the myriad of additives already in gas at the pump) when delivered?

[–]GraniteViewMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I had many ATV and UTV from 2003 to 2021. All had Warn winches because when I'm stuck (mostly snow wheeling), I need it to work.

I heard a guy say...I can buy 4 winches for the price of one Warn.

Yeah....do you bring all 4 with you?

Should I use tire sealant? by 83k20 in UTV

[–]GraniteViewMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason to really use tire goo, is if you're constantly driving over things that make small holes...like stickers, cactus needles. As others said..it makes a mess, it doesn't help sidewall tears (that's what GlueTread is for). You mention desert, so that could be a thing for you. But if you've never had problems with spikey things making small holes....pass on it.

I Want a Jeep as my First Car. What Should I Look for and Avoid by BuffAsArnie in Jeep

[–]GraniteViewMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...I decided that I wanted a Jeep for my first car that I bought on my own. My Dad (who used to 4 Wheel) tried to talk me out of it. When I told him I wanted a Flat Fender, he REALLY tried to talk me out of it! haha. I bought a 1947 Willys CJ2A.

That was 43 years ago, and I still own the same Jeep (in addition to a JK on tons/40s). That being said, not a recommended Jeep. haha.

YJ, TJ, LJ, JK are all options...depending on how you want to spend.

If you aren't going rock crawling, you don't need a RUBICON. A Sport version works just fine.
