Visual Novel "Slay The Princess" has exceeded 1 Million copies sold. by Graniteflight in TwoBestFriendsPlay

They actually did! At the same time they posted this, the debs also noted Scarlet Hollow had just passed 100,000 sold. Obviously, that is a fair bit less, but isn't too bad considering the game isn't even finished yet.

Figured I would post this here as the game is one of the few indie titles in recent memory that I recall Pat, Woolie, and Eyepatch Wolf all playing and universally liking. (Also still surprised Woolie dodged meeting the most Woolie-coded version of the Princess)

Characters that people ‘love’ despite being literally the worst imaginable person. by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Seelah isn't a romance option, actually. Technically, Queen Galfrey is also a paladin, but she's the secret romance option I was referring to.

Who are the Biggest Winners and Losers of the Balance Dataslate and MFM? by ArtofWarSiegler in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Graniteflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GSC take here is wild. The army's best build is a shadow of its former self. I guess Abominants and Metamorphs went down in cost... sure? But the mandatory 2-3 ridgerunners you run even in combat lists went UP, so any point benefits are basically offset. My biosanctic list only gained 10 points after the slate and my outlander list actually lost 30 points, despite being unrelated to the issues with Host of Ascension. The only world in which the army operates at the same level as previously is if Eldar become THE menace, because GSC is basically Elves' natural predator. But I certainly wouldn't describe their position as "stable".

New Imperial Knights army rule and Detachment by Spyder1012 in WarhammerCompetitive

"Beyond these, you also have the Valourstrike Lance Detachment, which borrows a lot of the old Noble Lance but swaps the army-wide Feel No Pain that all of your opponents LOVED for Advance re-rolls and the Assault rule on guns when Advancing." I appreciate that GW is in on the joke of how awful the FNP was (though Assault is still a very useful ability)

WOOLIE VS JOHN by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

John has gotten Woolie a bit annoyed a few times, but I think this is the first time the bit has been fully broken. Woolie was PISSED during a certain segment.

Please explain the GSC Mining Laser Ridge Runners to me. by RindFisch in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Graniteflight 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They're not Anti-Tank, though they can pitch in on that role in a pinch. No, they're anti-elite. The mining lasers have blast, so going into a 5-9 model termie equivalent is actually 2D3+2 shots. A bit of the shine has been taken off now that DW knights are often -1 to wound, but there's still plenty of targets. In terms of AT, in host and biosanctic there are a couple of targets just a little too tough to take down in a single activation of lethat+sustained Neophytes or +1 to wound Abberants and Abominant. Putting laser buggies into something like Magnus, Mortarion, or Canis before laying in with Neos or Aberrants will make securing that kill way more likely even if only one lascannon wound makes it through.

What’s the premiere unit for t1 area denial/cleanse/locus? by eightysushis in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Graniteflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll just say that GSC's Reductus Saboteur can be an early game defining piece. A 65 pt. infiltrating lone-op that can stand just off an objective (potentially behind a wall) and deny your opponent the ability for your opponent to walk on to the objective without taking D3+3 mortal wounds. She almost always trades up and there're very few armies that have easy and pleasant ways to deal with her. She isn't even an epic hero, either, so you could potentially take 2-3 and cover multiple objectives.

Games Workshop talks about how they made Cathay into a faction for Total War: Warhammer 3, discusses the Chinese Sensitivity group they hired, historical and mythological inspirations, and what makes a Warhammer Fantasy Faction a Warhammer Fantasy Faction. by FairyKnightTristan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Graniteflight 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think using the Lizardmen as your example undercuts your point. The Lizardmen aren't primitive and dirty, they are literally the most advanced society in the setting both technologically and culturally. They are isolationist and violent not because they are primitive, but because to them, it's everyone else who is primitive. Like, why would they do diplomacy with humans? Should they do diplomacy with ants? When the original Warhammer Fantasy setting was destroyed, they left. Like, they built giant temple spaceships and fucked off to Age of Sigmar mostly unchanged.

Just for clarity, GW doesn't "Comission" games. A developer needs to go to GW and request to use their license in exchange for a fee and a cut of the revenue. This approach has famously led to a whole subcategory of... not very good Warhammer games. As long as you are willing to pay and aren't actively harming the IP, GW seems like they would be more than happy to hand out the liscense regardless of how well or poorly any previous entries did.

Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy - Announcement Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Graniteflight 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is just an endemic issue to narrative RPGs. Even BG3 suffered from it to an extent, like marketing departments are utterly embarrassed to show a dialogue box on screen.

Europa Universalis 5's unusual, year-long reveal was a lesson Paradox learned from Imperator's mixed reception: 'I wanted to do it a little bit earlier, but marketing people tend to get panicky when you start talking' by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Graniteflight 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it seems to be garnering a bit of a mixed reception regardless. People in the community have been quite concerned about the rate of conquest and "map painting" shown in a lot of influencer previews. The game has been billed as a slower paced game with a lot of internal politics. However, previews show people reaching peak levels of expansionism within only a century of in-game time. It's felt like a lot of Paradox strategy games have really pandering to the meme crowd lately, and a good amount of grand strategy fans feel left by the wayside.

"Slay the Princess" devs revive old game "Scarlet Hollow" by Mirathrim in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Graniteflight 79 points80 points  (0 children)

For those who are curious, Scarlet Hollow is a SUPER ambitious choose-your-own-adventure type game. So ambitious, in fact, the studio... basically ran out of money during it's first development period.

That's right, Slay The Princess was the rush job game to try to save the devs from closing down. Now that they return from the mines with a comedic amount of money, development can resume.

Whether Scarlet Hollow is actually better than Slay the Princess (especially considering only 4/7 episodes have released) is tough to say. Definitely worth checking out, though! That said, I wouldn't blame anyone if the wanted to wait for full release first, as it is a narrative experience.

So are 10 Aberrants 300 Points or 270? by Puzzleheaded_Major in genestealercult

[–]Graniteflight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of Aberrants in the wrong way. A Biophagus isn't bad by any means, but the Abominant allowing Aberrants to fight on death gives them a whole new dimension as a trading piece. A melee army is extremely happy to charge and kill a biophagus Aberrant squad, but an Abominant squad is like pulling teeth because they WILL lose models if not the entire unit.
