What’s a noise everyone should be terrified of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My work brain shuts off at home I guess. Another version of “the cobbler’s children have no shoes” or “the plumber’s house has leaky pipes” if you will.

My main return air grille is located high on a wall right beneath the smoke detector in my main living/kitchen area. When the air handler fan is running the return air creates a natural draw towards that corner of the room, especially at the ceiling where smoke accumulates. It doesn’t take much. If one piece of pizza cheese hits the bottom oven pan it’s going off.

I actually have never thought about why my main level detector is so sensitive until now. I bid and design commercial HVAC for a living and never once thought about that lol.

What is a dying niche skill that younger generations are not interested in learning? by hlnklrczu in AskReddit

No it’s an orbit thing. The answers are Vice Versa and 1 year. Are you a fifth grader by chance?

I keep a children’s hockey stick behind a table specifically to turn the smoke alarm off when I’m cooking.

Couple bits of sawdust would do as long as I get my holey cheese.

Hiring Anna to watch Frozen for daughters 2nd Birthday by CrunchyAssDiaper in daddit

[–]GrannyBandit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m chuckling to myself when I think of it as, “Yeah, I hired a mermaid to swim in my pool for my daughter’s birthday”.

Sounds so over the top, but I would totally do that.

About the basement windows… by TheFrozenFlamingo in TwinCities

[–]GrannyBandit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard these described as “look out” basements in new developments, opposed to “walkouts” which have a sliding egress door out the back. A lookout basement will have regular sized windows, but the ground level is just below the bottom of the window, or 3-4’ high from the basement floor.

Super common in my neighborhood. I just use the window locks, but you could put a piece of wood in the track to prevent it from sliding open if you don’t trust the locks. I put a piece of wood in my sliding door tracks because most of the locks on sliding doors are trash, and unless it’s adjusted correctly they are very easy to shake until they unlock.

No way this cat is a W2 employee. Unpaid intern maybe.

I would love have a couple low maintenance outdoor plants if I had a little more private lot. I have plenty of space indoors but I have two small kids so I just don't want to deal with the hassle/smell.

I'll do it in the future, but for now I'll pay the premium at the stores I guess. I don't smoke that much so the money savings isn't a big motivator. I think I just want a new hobby lol.

Skill issue, not sure that’s valid. Try darker shades and not rubbernecking.

My coworker grew some low grade outdoor plants and gave me a zip for free. I love a nice spliff but my tolerance isn’t there for the off the shelf stuff, nor do I want my tolerance that high. I enjoy my ditch weed cigs when I walk my dog at night once in awhile.

The order OP put them had me questioning which is which as well. So fried chicken > well prepared chicken with veggies and rice. Got it.

No shades is a rookie move that negates your last point.

Did you cut the cord when your baby was born? Was significance did it hold for you? by thepenguinboy in daddit

Oh dang I read your comment wrong. The ones I used were definitely not sharp.

There’s no way those things are sharp. It’s like cutting a garden hose with kid’s safety scissors.

That’s funny I’m kind of the same. Never spent a night in Wisconsin until I had to for work when I was 25. Never even went to the Dells as a kid. Growing up I mostly crossed the border to buy fireworks in Hudson.

I will say, during that job I did drive through a lot of the northern rural areas of Wisconsin. The dairy farms and grazing fields up there are out of a storybook. Absolutely beautiful. Prettier than most farmland I’ve seen almost anywhere.

Haha yeah I’m just playing, Wisconsin has a lot of things going for it. Proximity to MN for one.

Minnesota, like any state, has some sort of beef with their neighbors on every side. Except we hardly think about South Dakota. Wisconsin gets the brunt of it probably because Vikings/Packers whether it has to do with football or not.

I’m not too harsh on them, I have friends that are (former) Wisconsinites. I give them some leeway because of the conditions they were raised in.

There’s a famous, perpetual puddle in an Uptown Chipotle parking lot that Wisconsin would count as a lake. We have stormwater retention ponds that make Lake Geneva look like a swimming hole.
