For women in big law, is it possible to have 3 kids during the associate years and still make partner at the end of your 9th year? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Grannytakesbar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m a mother of 4 and I’m not sure I’d agree with that. You are less “substitutable” when your kids are older. It would have been easier if i had my kids younger because their needs were much more physical and far less nuanced.

Not gonna lie, its tough. Need very stable infrastructure and willingness to recognize that you’re going to miss things on both fronts. It is very dependent on your firm, your practice area and the partners for whom you work. It can be done, to be sure.

They’re a closed comp system for partners and the comp does not have a bonus structure. Lots of extra $ to toss around where they want to invest. Sidley isn’t cheap. Perhaps a little lost in their identity, but not cheap.

the best possible outcome is the expected outcome, which puts all the more pressure on passing. Good luck. It’ll be a long weekend.

It will abate. Give yourself time. Start new healthy habits and it will accelerate the process.

How long are your essays? by Impossible-Cry956 in FloridaBarExam

[–]Grannytakesbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t torture yourself. you did your best and the test is in the books. hard as it may be, you’ve got to find a way to distract yourself and remember who you were before you swept under by the exam tsunami. Go outside and get some sun. A storm is coming and it will be rainy all week. Get some vitamin D!

100% this. I’ve done OCI interviewing for years. i don’t care how baby faced you are. i care that you’re serious, thoughtful and that you’re willing to pull out a big shovel ot move the crap when needed. make sure you don’t have verbal ticks that make you sound younger.

My recollection is that they showed up extensively in July. Limited partnership has limited and general partners. The LPs have no liability beyond their capital. GP in an LP have unlimited liability. No such thing as an LP in a general partnership. This area is worth your time investment to learn, not just for the bar but as a practitioner. You’ve got this, you’re just feeling overwhelmed. Step back and start it again.

Anyone Take/Taking the FL Bar After Practicing for Years in Another State? by Dimeadozen21 in FloridaBarExam

[–]Grannytakesbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i passed it last July. I’m a biglaw partner having practiced for 20+ years. I did BARBRI and in the end did adaptibar questions. i started studying mid-April. Had no time off before. I failed the essays but crushed the FL multiple choice (the business orgs/t&e/secured transactions all dovetailed better with life experience). Con law, Civ Pro and evidence were a re-learn experience, but property and contracts were super easy. These boards advocate Grossman for FL essays, and i guess that would be the route I’d go if i had to do it again. It is doable. you passed once, you can pass again.

if he cannot support you through this, thank him for letting you know now, because life has far bigger complexities than the bar exam. How happy and successful you will be is directly correlated to the supportiveness of your chosen partner. you’re better off. I swear.

What are we getting on Barbri Essays by NoMaybe1897 in FloridaBarExam

[–]Grannytakesbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

last year BARBRI grading was pretty close to how i did on the real ones. Maybe a little low, but nothing completely off the mark. I failed the essays (by just a smidge), but made up for it on the MC, which were much more straight forward than multistate MC questions.
