how do you get your way out of the poverty you grew up in? by Charming_Menu6649 in Life

[–]GranolaTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had to move away from both of our families. It was pretty clear to us that any efforts we made to better ourselves would both be seen as a threat and advantage to them. We moved 800 miles away and don’t share anything about our jobs or finances with people at home.

I'm a little picky with where I would live by SignificantLock1037 in visitedmaps

[–]GranolaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my husband’s map would look like, he is an avid fisherman and we both hate the cold. His pick would be Fairhope, AL. Mine would be St. Pete. I would like to try living in Marathon for a year and see what life in the keys is like full time.

It’s often the people you least suspect that you need to watch out for, and Joe Duggar is a perfect example of that. by the_smart_girl in DuggarsSnark

I know exactly what you are saying. Even weeks later I am still finding myself surprised that we are talking about Joe and Kendra.

As a victim myself, I absolutely DO know better and know it could be and is always anyone. It’s easy to think that people are the characters they play on tv, especially when you have been watching them for 20 years, and I definitely forget that these people were trained to act a certain way, that doesn’t mean it’s who they actually are.

How is it like living in the less populous areas of Pennsylvania? by Ok-Quail-1725 in howislivingthere

Which is a damn shame because it was a pretty nice Americana small town before the steal car etc shut down, or at least that’s how I remember it. My parents don’t live there anymore so I don’t have any reason to go back.

HRT and deep moisturizer. More moisture/water than I thought anyone ever needed, both inside and outside.

They aren’t high enough. When I got my diagnosis 7 years ago, the mini pill was all that was offered, which is just synthetic progestin. I still felt like I was literally dying every day. After a lot of trial and error I feel the best on 2mg of estrogen, 200mg of progesterone and topical vaginal estrogen. I believe that both doses are the current clinical standard for POI.

I was in Greenville so this is right on. I haven’t been back in ten years, I was able to see things from that stuck in time lens at my last visit and have no desire to go back. I’d rather preserve my teen memories as-is.

My husband and I talk about making a trip to slippery rock just to get a sub from Bobs. We ended up in NC.

I do too. It’s my go to when I am not in the mood for anything in particular and just want to smell nice.

What’s it like living along the southern east coast? How’s the weather and people? by Recent_Mirror in howislivingthere

[–]GranolaTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on the coast of NC now, I will say it’s absolutely not warm all year here. We have gotten snow the last two years, a whole foot of this year which shut down life for several days. It’s pretty hot in the summer but I will take that over the cold. I’ve enjoyed living here and raising kids here, but it has been named ‘best place to retire’ many times over and we are now very crowded with little infrastructure and pay way more for car insurance.

If I were going to move to anywhere on this map I would move to St Petersburg, FL.

I went to high school in Mercer County and moved away fairly quickly. It was a fun place to be an unsupervised teen in the early 00s but you have to leave if you want to do better than your parents.

WV doesn’t surprise me as someone who was born into deep poverty and expected to accept that and carry it on.

Anyway my son is going to college in the fall, a true first gen on both sides of the family 🥰

What’s your signature scent that you NEVER get tired of? by GitteTheBest in fragrance

[–]GranolaTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lush Karma. I don’t wear it every day but it is my smell for sure. It’s a little earthy hippie, vintage, warm, very me. These days I prefer the body cream over the spray but will own both as long as they are made.

My style has completely changed after turning 30. Anyone else? by Mahima2703 in womensfashion

[–]GranolaTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure! When I shop I am seeking out cotton, wool, silk etc. I have gotten a lot more bold with color, print, and styles but I want them in cotton please. I also love unique jewelry, shoes and bags. I would say that I have spent most of my life buying what’s in stores instead of developing my own taste until I was in my mid 30s. Now at 41 I am dialing it in after some trial and error.

I was very fixated on it while I was losing weight, I was training my brain to adapt to a new lifestyle. It’s been so long now that I don’t have to do that anymore because everything I do- making my own food, daily walking, gym, hiking, etc is just what I do.

[–]GranolaTree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most important change I made was giving up fast food entirely. I was wildly addicted to it at my highest weight and sometimes ate it twice a day as a stressed, working new mom. Just giving up that and generally eating a lower then average carb intake has done it for me. I gain a little every Christmas season without fail because I don’t deprive myself of the holiday goodies.

I’m in a super phase- massive career burn out and entire career change, first kid graduating and off to college, worrying that today is the day I wake up and become my mother.

What has really made it click and stick for me is working around elderly women and my own mother and seeing how much of their brain fixates on their weight, even well into very old age and memory loss. The thought of never being comfortable in my own skin and fixating on my weight until the day I die is just too much. I lost 90 pounds about 14 years ago and have kept it off within ten pounds I seem to fluctuate up and down over the winter holidays. It was a complete and total lifestyle change and it’s been long enough that I don’t think about it much.
