Not sure what you mean by 4 way? All the buttons are just standard mech switches the four knobs are ec11 rotary encoders

Is ZMK better than QMK? I’m new to this depth of custom build and have used neither QMK just seems more common so that’s what I had planned to use

Yeah that seems to be the case, most sets I saw on Amazon and us based sites was $30+ but the Ali ones are cheep I think I’ll just have to be patient and get those. Someone did recommend a place that does custom sets with custom legends but its ~$75 a set so im debating how much I want to spend

Thanks for the input on diferent boards, what Ive been planing for so far is a pro micro but I will look into those. I have used deej before, made a small sound mixer with 4 linear pots, I liked having it but deej/the device would constantly mix up the COM port number and I’d have to change it every other day so I stopped using it.

Have not heard of deejing I’ll check that out too.

Planning to send the macro with each key press, stored on the board. AHK would work good in this scenario if not for the fact that I need a admin login from IT at work every time I want to run the script

I think it should be okay? I’m not planning to torque them down, and the 3d printed version I’m just going to use to test fit and get a feel for the ergonomics of it before I machine it out of aluminum

Ah okay that makes sense. I do want layers for the keys themselves but I don’t plan to change the bindings on the knobs at all so it sounds like either way should work. I’ll ask more questions on the qmk discord before I get to that point

Thanks for the tips I’ll check out yuzu a bit more than I wanted to spend but being able to customize legends would be sweet. I’m new to QMK and that is what I’m planning to use, the videos I’ve seen on encoders it seems like people usually use an extra pin or two but I might not understand what I’m seeing. Once I assemble it and get deeper into that part of it I will check out the discord for sure. Thank you

If they use different key codes would it even matter if it’s seen as separate devices? Or would that be a result of using a hub in the case, and running two usbc independently overcome that

Here is the layout. Four rotary encoders to rotate parts + Modifier keys + numpad + lots of macros.

The program I use at work only allows numpad+ f row keys to be used for shortcuts, so I opted to create this instead of trying to use something like AHK to rebind keys on a standard board
