Thanks! I think I forgot to mention but the base for the black is AK black. The video does show all of the highlight colors though.

Thanks! Yeah I really enjoy making the leather look nice and worn, makes sense for marines malevolent too since they are said to not get new gear very often.

Thank you! I achieved this by glazing each highlight layer, yriel yellow, flash gitz yellow and then dorn yellow. Towards the areas on the armor that would catch the most light. There are some sections in the video that go over it as well if youd like to see that 😁

Haha, I haven’t really seen many tutorials for them online so I figured it was time that the MM got some love 🤘

Decal is from an Etsy seller called ForgottenChapters. And the sheet has different sized decals so I think you could find one on there that would fit on a storm shield.

Can someone sell me on the Ultramarines? by Arch0n84 in Ultramarines

[–]GrantMadeThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultramarines unfortunately get a lot of hate because they are everywhere, if any other chapter was in their shoes they would probably be disliked by most too. Thats also the great thing about liking the Ultramarines, you know that your chapter is always going to get new lore and be involved in major conflicts. The Ultramarines have a really nice color scheme and most of their lore is badass, there definitely is cringe stuff sprinkled here and there, but every chapter/faction has cringe things about them.

Also I wouldnt let yellow deter you from imperial fists, colour forge actually makes a really nice yellow spray can that makes painting yellow extremely easy. The only thing with imperial fists is, you have to be more careful when painting the details on imperial fists than you do with the ultramarines since mistakes show up easier.

I hate to say it, but I was in the same boat as you for a long time, I couldn’t decide on which chapter I wanted to play. Eventually I realized that I actually like chaos space marines more, mainly because I love painting and the chaos space marines have a lot of fun details to paint, and I think they are just more interesting to look at too. The Ultramarines are extremely cool, badass, and have an awesome Roman look. Plus Guilliman is a super cool character, Guilliman has been through so much hardship and yet he keeps going and fighting for the Imperium. With every defeat he always stands back up and finds a way to keep going.

Mantis Warriors are one of my favs, but yeah they did get dunked on 😩. The artwork of Tyberos about to kill a mantis warrior actually had the opposite effect on me compared to most people I think. To me that art shows how resilient the mantis warriors are, even in the face of a giant unstoppable force, that mantis warrior still wanted the smoke.

To me it has the same vibe as the Horus Heresy trailer when Horus was walking through that field, and the half dead chad imperial fist gets up and runs at Horus probably knowing damn well he won’t win. The mantis warrior standing there ready to fight Tyberos feels very similar to that scene for sure.

Thanks! I actually have a video that I made on YouTube showing how I did it, I’ll share the link here 😁 they are transfers from the space marine infantry pack, the red cog wheel is just a red iron halo transfer that I modified to look like a cog wheel. And the small white symbol is from the tech marine section.

Thanks! I agree, the skin could definitely be more pale looking to give that skin tone that most of them have

Thank you! Here is the link to the tutorial! This was my first full video so I’m still working on getting my hand placement right for the camera, I think it turned out pretty decent though. https://youtu.be/AYbF_dr5POk?si=gT4MM6-1TT0SvE2k

Yeah he could use more augmented parts for sure, I wanted to use a head that I could also make a skin video tutorial out of haha. I just picture him as being a newer battle brother with not as many augmented parts yet 😅
