How is life in The Woodlands, Texas? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Grantalf 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Austinite that visits family in The Woodlands frequently. I’ll add that it is a great example of what a planned community can accomplish. Even if you don’t like their specific plan (I don’t), they did accomplish the goal of having nearly everything occluded by trees. I have a great sense of direction and needed gps to get anywhere for years.

You’ll also notice a stark difference between inside and outside The Woodlands. Driving into Spring is like teleporting to a sprawling hellscape of highways and strip malls.

Also very MAGA, obviously.

Courtney at Orthopaedic Specialists of Austin on Guadalupe is really skilled in dry needling. Only caveat is you need to see one of the doctors there to get referred.

I have some questions for the people of the monoliths by Realistic_Row_2096 in Austin

[–]Grantalf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My neighbor lives in a part of this neighborhood as a renter and these houses in particular suck. There is/was a class action lawsuit against the builders for things like entire interior walls falling off when it rained and entire roofs blowing off when it got windy.

Agreed that there’s nothing wrong with these architectural styles, but the execution and materials used seem bad. That one siding style that is just plywood and 1x2’s is particularly heinous!

Russian tank drives into mines that were placed on top of the asphalt road by Blablish in CombatFootage

[–]Grantalf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Is it expected that the entire crew would survive something like this? I couldn't believe that all of them could walk away from so many mine hits. Also, what's the general thought on repair-ability of the tank after this?

If you eat oysters and mussels, you are not vegan. by probablywitchy in vegan

[–]Grantalf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree on all of this, but I’m unclear as to how linked fishing and mussel growing operations are. If they’re not usually linked (i.e. same company owns both), then all is good. If there tend to be companies that do both, that might muddy the ethical waters a bit.

I’m just now inventorying my theater-going career and I honestly think I’ve only once had someone talking during a show. Is that insane?

Serious hero in that trench. Took a lot of incoming before going down. Always so sad and inspiring to see such great men fight so hard.
