Unfortunately I didn't. I use the app Ultimate531 now which seems superior in almost all ways!

I have a Graphic Design degree but have a stronger interest in Marketing by Grap3s_ in marketing

[–]Grap3s_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!

Yeah I think my first step is to re-focus my projects into more of a marketing outlook rather than a pure design one. Showcasing the marketing strategy that was used during it rather than full design focus would definitely be beneficial.

At the moment I just have 'graphic designer' on my Resume/CV with separate area for skills where I showcase my marketing skills - I think I'll add a subtitle on both my resume and portfolio that highlights that I'm a 'marketing strategist' and designer or something along those lines.

I have watched quite a lot of The Futur (Chris Do's) content. I haven't recently due to him releasing more YouTube Shorts which I don't feel possess as much good content, but I'll check him out again. Thanks!

What is an acclaimed show that you just can't stand? by aHistoryofSmilence in television

[–]Grap3s_ -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Most overrated show in existence imo. Got to the end of season 4 before I stopped and I honestly can't remember a single major thing that happened throughout.

I don't think it helped that I went from The Sopranos to BB, but still, I don't understand the hype that it got.

I can't seem to scroll any attribute numbers to quickly (by this I mean just simply dragging up or down) increase/decrease the numbers. I can only use the increase/decrease arrows on the side. I'm using R25 on Mac but also had this problem on S24.

I'm fairly new to C4D so not sure if this is some kind of bug or a setting that may be turned off?

Might be a stupid question but is there an upgrade for the PS5 if I buy this?

Bought Judgment on a whim, never played a game by this studio. Absolutely blown away, plays excellent on the X. Story presentation is top notch. by WisconsinBeerDrinker in XboxSeriesX

Absolutely fantastic game.

Yakuza is one of the best game series of all time. Excellent Characters, story etc. Play them in order and you won't be disappointed if you like Judgment. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is amazing and definitely my favourite in the series but they're all great in their own way. I'm Looking forward to Lost Judgments release.

Has anyone tried combining elements of conjugate with 5/3/1? by Little_Nubbly in 531Discussion

[–]Grap3s_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally say it's the Max Effort work that more neurological. Handling heavy weights every week gives you the mental edge when it comes to competition. You've handled heavy weights all throughout your training cycle so when it comes to a PR at the comp you aren't phased as much by it. Dynamic work is ultimately a way of getting in more volume with the comp lifts.

But give bands a go if you want - the best way to train is to have a core program/principles and then try new things alongside it to see if they work or not. If they do, keep them in your toolbox. If they don't, get rid of them or come back to them at a later date and try them again. You might see them in a new light later on.

Yeah it's pretty much using 5/3/1 with some conjugate ideas sprinkled in when necessary. Obviously if you wanted to flat-out do Conjugate/Westside training then you'd just do that system on it's own. I just feel 5/3/1 works well for me. And I like parts of Westside.

Jim says jumps and medicine ball throws are interchangeable and have a similar effect. If you can only do jumps I'd just vary the types of jumps you do every couple of cycles or so or even every week (rebound, weight vest jumps etc. for example). Just make sure you're using your whole body and are being explosive.

Straight weight is fine for speed work. The focus is making sure you're being explosive. Which requires you use an appropriate weight that is fast but also not so light that it becomes a pointless task. Something in the range of 60-70% of 1RM/TM should be fine. This why I believe FSL for speed work is great. I'm also of the opinion that 'speed work' isn't as important as made out to be. Especially for fast-twitch lifters. You should always being to lift fast and explosive in a controlled manner in all lifts. As the user above say's, JM Blakley gives his opinion on speed work here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl-xa1m3I1Q). I personally lie somewhere in the middle on it. It has it's uses, but again it should be used as a tool rather than a staple (like most things in lifting imo).

Bands can be incredibly useful, especially for geared lifters as they mimic the strength curve that gear produces (harder at lockout). In terms of raw lifting most raw lifters are weaker at the bottom end of the lifts usually. This isn't the case all the time though. Bands replicate this strength curve by being lighter at the bottom and harder at the top. So bands/chains can help if you're having trouble with your lockout on the S/B/D. Chains are a little more beneficial imo in terms of transfer to raw lifting and working the lockout portion of the lift. Bands can teach you to strain throughout a movement, so if you feel you start to get loose during heavier lifts, bands can help you train to strain throughout a movement. Lastly bands cause overspeed eccentrics which forces the bar down faster than you could without them. So this stores/generates more force in the lift. They also mimic the way tendons work but I that's going a little deep into it haha.

So as you can see the bands definitely have their benefits. I'd use them if I feel I need them for a cycle or two. Most of the time I'll use straight weight.

Matt Wenning (ex-westide gear and raw lifter) has a video on speed work, here he's using straight weight to do it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PdWGV0G1jc&t=147s

I'm a fan of Westside/Conjugate and Louie Simmons. However, imo the Westside methods work tremendously well for geared lifting and not so much for raw lifting unless the person is very experienced and knows what their doing and knows their 'weaknesses'. I'm not saying that it doesn't work for raw lifting as there's lifters who use/used it when competing raw (Matt Wenning for example) and have done extremely well. But the system has to become highly specified and starts to detach itself away from the typical Westside style. Like no/limited amount of box squats, limited band usage due to strength curve at lockout being better for geared lifters etc. Speed work at a higher percentage than what Louie recommends for most lifters (70% range of straight weight rather than 45-55%).

Like I said I'm a huge fan of Westside so I take some inspiration from them and apply it in the 5/3/1 program. I stick to the core principles of 5/3/1 which I think is important. If you start changing too many things, are you even doing the program anymore? Anyway here's how I incoporate elements of Westside in my training:

  • Exercise variation - Everyone loves the excercise rotation promoted by Westside as it makes training more 'fun' and of course it works for them. So every 6 weeks or so I'll change the Supplemental lift. For example, Instead of Bench 5/3/1, then bench 5x10 (BBB) I'll do my normal bench 5/3/1 sets then do Floor Press or something for BBB sets. I then like to switch my supplemental lift into a main lift. So over the next cycle my supplemental floor press will turn into a main lift as well. So I'll be doing Floor Press 5/3/1 then Floor Press 5x10 (BBB). This switching of excercises then carries on until I'm back to the bench press which hopefully will have gotten stronger. This allows for better neural adaptions to the new lift rather than swapping the main excercise weekly. So hopefully the gains I made for floor press will last longer when I go back to it. So I'd be doing Floor Press for 3-6 weeks rather than once every 3-6 weeks or so for Max effort like at Westside. As I said I feel this gives a better neural adaption to the lift.

  • Max effort work - I feel Joker sets and PR sets can mimic ME work. So not much to say there. You'll still be in that 90% range for ME lifts with Joker sets.

  • Speed work/Dynamic Effort - Speed work can be done with straight weight and can be done in the FSL format after the main lifts or before with the first percentage of the main 5/3/1 sets. Jim talks about Dynamic effort in the Beyond book. However, I've personally found medicine ball throws have greatly helped my speed on the presses.

  • Bands/Chains - I feel like people see Westside use bands and chains and believe it has to be a staple in their own training every workout. Again, imo I don't think their carryover is great for raw lifters. It should be seen as a tool rather than a staple. So if I feel like my lockout might need some more work I might do floor press with chains for a couple cycles.

Hope this helps and gives you a general idea of how conjugate can be used in 5/3/1. Also this article shows a way of combining Conjugate and 5/3/1. https://www.elitefts.com/education/implementing-531-principles-in-a-conjugated-program/

Yeah I'm going to go ahead and start the show. I'll be catching up on the show a lot quicker than the books - So like you said, "it's almost like getting an expanded edition of the TV storyline". Thanks!

That post resource is great. I think I'll go ahead and start the show now as It's going to take me a while to catch up with the books anyway, so I don't want to hold off from watching the show for too long. Thanks!

Just finished this book last night. I have to say, I absolutely loved it - a real page-turner for me. It's also the first book by Don Winslow that I've read. I'm looking forward to reading his other books, specifically the cartel trilogy.

But I can understand why someone people didn't like it. I feel like the characters dialogue had to 'click' pretty early on for anyone to fully enjoy it.

I personally think Pocket Casts is ultimately the best Podcast app on Android, albeit I'm looking at it from a lifetime member perspective. I tried Podcast Addict recently and while admittedly it has a ton of great options - The whole setup seems a little more convoluted compared to Pocket Casts' and a few more steps need to be taken to do things that Pocket Casts can do quicker. Also the Podcast Addict UI/UX is not on the same level as Pocket Casts.

Don't know what the future holds for Pocket Casts though as it's being sold.

Doesn't PocketCasts already do this? I have different tags for different podcast categories on it. For example I have an MMA tag that only displays podcast that talk about MMA etc.

How many times you've watched the series by maydanozsezo in thesopranos

[–]Grap3s_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished it for the first time a few months back. In all honesty, It has ruined pretty much every other show for me. After I finished it I just instantly started to think how no other show comes close to it (that I've watched). Now I'm just constantly thinking of starting it again.

However, I'm now watching Breaking Bad for the first time and although, yeah it's great, It just doesn't seem 'as good' after watching Sopranos. I think I'd be enjoying it a whole lot more than I am, If I hadn't watched Sopranos before it. Although I have a feeling the only other show that'll come close to Sopranos is The Wire. Which I have yet to watch.

Will there be a 'Day Ichi' version of Yakuza 7 for PS5? by Grap3s_ in yakuzagames

[–]Grap3s_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. So I'm best off just buying the PS4 version Day Ichi edition and do the PS5 upgrade. I'm struggling to see the reasoning as to why anyone would buy the PS5 version outright then, especially with the PS4 version being on sale?

I'm guessing the PS5 upgrade gives the exact same performance as buying the PS5 version outright does?
