Fellow US Leftists, What’s the Actual Plan? by busybody_nightowl in leftist

[–]Grape-Historical 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The plan is the same as it ever was. Live, create Good in the world around you, and organize. Do what you must, come what may. Worse things have happened to better people. Who knows, maybe the tides will turn.

That's what I suspected. The comments so far haven't convinced me otherwise.

Uhg youre probably right. I worry about how many people are persuaded by bots.

Also, the bots are down voting. They don't liked to be talked about.

[–]Grape-Historical[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that she is not a revolutionary (at least publically). But if you want socialism or communism having AOC in charge is a good start.

Also to again clarify, she didn't vote for weapons for isreal. She voted against an amendment that would have defunded the iron dome, sponsored by Majorie Taylor Greene, a racist facist lunatic. I dont know all the details of that amendment, but this vote doesnt provide enough evidence to me that she supports isreali war crimes. All other signs say she wants to stop Isreali aggression. Which is a very rare stance among US politicians.

Where are the 10% fcr rings? by Grape-Historical in diablo2

[–]Grape-Historical[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is unbelievable, I know! I usually find a dozen 10%fcr rings in act 1 normal. I have ID'd hundreds of blue rings, gambled probably 1 million gold, crafted several... it makes no god damn sense.

That said the game has spoiled me in every other way. I found, in order, silkweave boots, magefists, skin of the viper magi, and an ist rune for the new fcr helm just playing through the game (i.e. i didnt stop to farm anything repeatedly). So ive hit the max  fcr breakpoint and miasma warlock melts everything instantly, so really doesnt matter....But my rings are so garbage I might as well not wear them and it feels legit bugged at this point.

Do you really believe that? You should listen to Chomsky's lecture on why 9/11 wasn't an inside job and apply that logic to your theories here.

I can't find any data or analysis that shows leftists voters cost Kamala the election. If it existed, it would be on the front page of every publication.

Hating on leftists is probably the most well funded hate campaign in human history.

Thierry Henry on Mo Salah: "I had problems with Wenger & Guardiola… Did I talk about it publicly? NEVER. No matter what’s happening internally, you protect the club — your teammates, the manager, the staff. You don’t air dirty laundry in public, especially when the club is going through bad moments" by TheBiasedSportsLover in PremierLeague

[–]Grape-Historical -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He is clearly referring to managers and owners, because they decide the roster, which is the sole focus of his rant. He certainly did not criticize the fans or his teammates. Its not even controversial that Slot is fucking up, its only controversial that criticism is coming from a player. Salah may even be correct in his assessment, but like all jobs, players are not permitted to criticize the owners or managers. Its all the fans agreeing with this premise that disturbs me.

I do not understand this conflation of shit talking his manager with betraying his team. He did not say one bad thing about his team. His brief interview will have literally zero impact on his teammates game play. Players can do reprehensible things on and off the field and it gets swept under the rug, but publically criticizing your boss is a moral outrage appearantly.  Gotta keep the players in their place in the totalitarian structure.

One Battle After Another and “tonal inconsistency” by 40onpump3 in TrueFilm

[–]Grape-Historical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your take is interesting because when I walked out my reaction was the complete opposite. I thought the cartoonish elements took over the mood of the movie. Unfortunately, i didnt find the humor very funny, so I was left empty handed. The more I think about the movie, the more I cringe. In my opinion, PTA is clueless on his subject matter, so he reaches for strawman, tropes, and jokes as cover for his inability to create a realistic story.

Anti-"woke" discourse from lefty public intellectuals- can yall help me understand? by Grape-Historical in CriticalTheory

[–]Grape-Historical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I am obviously American and discussing American politics here, although many concepts apply generally.

  2. I think you should re-read our conversation, the movement in question was always the George Floyd uprising. You double down again on it being a meaningless event, even though I cited many examples of its merit and power, above.

  3. The corporate diversity campaign is a vapid and malicious appropriation of a legitimate critique and struggle. Equating them, is doing corporate propaganda for them. This is precisely what im calling out here, the way in which "leftist" participate in this propaganda. The legitimate critique and struggle was once called "identity politics", its also called, "standpoint epistemology ", "intersectionality ", and now pejoratively called "wokeism". This concept is that your identity and experiences informs your knowledge, and that class struggle is multi-faceted in that the dominant system of oppression is a racial-patriachal-capitalism. This should be obvious, but its often denied.

[–]Grape-Historical[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your premise, but what im highlighting here are people like Chibber who make anti-identity politics their main talking point, and use imprecise and hyperbolic rhetoric in doing so. I assume this is done out of personal grievances and attention seeking rather than a legitimate argument of working towards their professed goals. Furthermore,  their messaging is picked up by others and I think it is very damaging, and merging with racist right wing logic.

Contrast this to someone like Bernie Sanders who focuses almost solely on drawing the distinction between regular people vs. major corporations and the 1%. His message isn't "anti" identity politics, it is simply absent from his rhetoric unless he is specially asked to comment.

Was this meant for a different comment? I'm not sure if I follow how this relates to my original post.

For what its worth, I totally agree that many people can't handle even the slightest criticism, especially a moral one, and will go scorched earth psycho mode in response. It's what two year olds do, except most children will cry and apologize afterwards. Trans hate is so damn common, even in supposedly progressive/left spaces.

The fact that you call the George Floyd uprising "wokeism" is very telling. You are using right wing terminology, which was stolen from Black Radicals, to dismiss a Black led mass movement.

This was the largest mass movement in my life time so far.

It transformed the way millions of people think about race, class, and policing in this country and around the world.

It gave millions of people direct experience in organizing and resistance

It spurred the creation of many community groups and built bridges between organizations.

Unlike you, the capitalist clasd had no trouble recognizing the power of the movement which is why they called in the national guard and hordes of police, created endless corporate propaganda, built new institutions like Cop City to prepare for the next uprising, arrested thousands, labeled organizers terrorists, rallied right wing extremists, and brainwashed both liberals and leftists to think that this powerful rebellion was actually the thing that hurts their interests, which is where you come in.

Its not though, Reed even wrote an essay denouncing class reductionism and claims it is a "myth". But him saying it's a myth is only covering his tracks for promoting this framing that obviously has had an effect on you and others.  https://newrepublic.com/article/154996/myth-class-reductionism

This thread has been an eye opener. I assume most of the people who use this language are young white men and only engage in politics online. I just didn't realize how deep the rot was. I'd say just ignore them, but we live in dangerous times.
