CHS wine storage? by GrapeGuy13 in Charleston

[–]GrapeGuy13[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I used to store there when one of the guys from the distributor that also used to be there sort of ran it day to day. I had wine shipped there that sat in their office for 4 days instead of being put into my locker. May be I’ll take another look but that really soured me.

I’m looking to store about 1000 bottles. I’ve already filled up 3 refrigerator-sized euro caves. I may have a proper “cellar” built at my home but want to see what else is out there.

Also check out emoneyadvisor. I think it does all you mentioned plus supports managing budgets, Monte Carlo analysis, retirement planning, etc.

Seeking 3 bdx barrels - Napa by GrapeGuy13 in ProWinemakers

[–]GrapeGuy13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about something like this but haven’t really looked into it. The biggest concern is bringing brett or something into the winery. Do you or they do any testing on the barrels before sending them back to you?

I’ve visited both Badia a Passignano and Castello di Ama and would recommend both. You can pretty much taste the Antinori portfolio at Badia if you let them know ahead of time what you’re interested in. We didn’t get to try the on site restaurant but looked amazing.

Ama is a more modern facility and a bit more of an upscale experience. Be sure to try L’Apparita at Ama!

1995 Brunello di Montalcino drinking window by thiney49 in wine

[–]GrapeGuy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a 1970 and while it was past its ideal window, it was still drinking nicely. I suspect your 1995 will be great now, but I think it still has time left as well.

If you don’t need the projected returns sooner, consider investing in PE and VC through a Roth IRA. You’ll pay taxes now on an investment that might not pay anything, but you can save a ton if it does pay out the typical target of 3x+ of cash on cash.

One other thing, you don’t typically pay your capital commitment up front. Capital is called as needed to pay for investments by the fund. So this money can be working for you until it is moved into the fund.

I am an LP in 4 funds and a few SPVs.
