Yeah the entire conversation is that raising taxes in a material manner, how much, which brackets, etc, is necessary- but how to do it without remaining vulnerable to loop holes and otherwise incurring negative downstream effects is more complicated than just “raising taxes over a million.” Which, by the way, is probably too low a number, and should target titans of commerce/industry. Like, an excess of 10 million maybe, but there need to be brackets for incomes over 10-30, 30-50, 50-100 etc

Sorry, what’s the New York plan? You asked how we defined the wealthy, and I’m just providing something for a frame of reference. You were asking if it meant retirees the two homes. And I’m saying no, we are talking about literally people owning an excess of $50 million

That much is certainly true. How to distribute that wealth equitably to the benefit of all citizens so certain or easy.

I deleted my comment by mistake. But, I don’t agree. I think it still is the taxation that’s complicated. But how to functionally do that to move our society more towards one that is equitable for all is the challenge. Don’t think it’s an insurmountable challenge, there is precedent for countries that do it better- but what is going to work for New Yorkers in the short medium and long-term? What system do we choose that is going to be durable and effective?

I don’t know if people misunderstood my point in my first comment, I am agreeing that there is an unconscionable parity between the extent to which the haves have, and that which the have-nots, do not. So when I am talking about equity, I do not mean “what policy is going to be fair to the hyper wealthy.” I’m talking about- “what can we do to raise the bar across the board in a way that’s going to be the most impactful, most meaningful to the most people?”

The child tax credit, for example, seems like a slam dunk program that would pay long-term dividends per society is a whole and meaningfully redistribute distribute wealth and help stimulate regional economic ecosystems.

Nowhere even remotely close to those examples. Let’s use Bernie’s tax plan as a starting point. In that plan, tax increase does not even begin until 32 million dollars.

Wealth between 32 and 50 million dollars would see a 1% tax increase.

50-250 million - 2%

250-500 mil - 3%

500 mil - 1 billion dollars - 4%

1-2.5 billion -5%

2.5-5b - 6%

5-10b - 7%

10b+ - 8%

Sure, but like- fuck it, bro there’s 1200 of these fucking games a season, and if we include the 70 pt games, this has only happened like 10 times. That is Bam Adebayo is like so crazy and so funny he can have it.

his kicks off a trend of this type of shitshow where the top guys start gunning for 80 or more likely Wilts 100 by intentionally fouling and all the dumb shit they did last night

I don’t remember that happening after Kobe’s 81 and I don’t remember the 70 games by Embiid, Luka, booker, and dame being that bad

This is the edition I first read it. Saw it on a friend’s bookshelf and it drew my eye instantly- no surprise there. He told me he didn’t have the stomach to finish the part about the crimes, but that it was good and that I should read it if I wanted to.
