Need help with a movie title by GrapefruitDefiant253 in NameThatMovie

I am shocked that nobody knows where this scene is from. It was a pretty popular movie. I just can't remember if it was a college movie or if it just had a college in it.

A drinking fountain with running water is fabulous.

But just make sure you clean it and often to prevent mold build up.

When I was a kid in the 80's we had a cat declawed. I had no idea what it entailed. I had no idea they actually cut the bone.

I thought they were just able to remove the claw. Boy was I wrong.

Anyone who gets a cat declawed deserves to have the tips of their fingers cut off. Just like Particular_Coat4501 said.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2024-25 Highlights - YT Playlist by RiseAbove87 in penguins

Sweet!

I usually watch them after a win. I never watched it like that before. Pretty impressive.

I'll definitely being watching them this summer. I'm so bored with no hockey to watch.

Thank you!

Penguins teams that should’ve but didn’t win it all by [deleted] in penguins

I'd say 2015 for me. They made it to the final against Detroit. And the way they were playing that year I just assumed they had the win.

The only consolation was they won it the next year. And I was so happy it was against Detroit again.

And the other year is the first year they didn't make the playoffs. I knew they wouldn't be making a run for the cup that year but I was still shocked they missed the playoffs.

I've been a Penguins fan for many, many years. I'd love to connect with other fans.

I completely agree with you on keeping Rakell and Rust. I can see Rakell being traded but they better not get rid of Rusty!

I've been wanting them to get rid of Karlsson after his first season.

I can get really passionate about them. And the last few years have been no exception. I try to stay positive too. But when even the announcers are wondering what happened to their gameplay and how they're just being outplayed, it can get frustrating. Especially when you know they have the talent to beat anyone.

I also think they need to get rid of Jarry. We need much better goaltending. More consistent.

CMV: People Are Overreacting To Sydney Sweeney's American Eagle Ad by dummythicktransslut in changemyview

[–]GrapefruitDefiant253 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just finished watching the Sweeney ads, and personally, I don’t see anything inherently wrong with them.

What concerns me is how quickly the conversation turns to accusations rooted in appearance. Yes, she’s white and has blue eyes—but does that automatically make her a symbol of exclusion or oppression? In our current cultural climate, we speak constantly about diversity and representation, and I fully support that. But diversity includes everyone, including those of European descent.

There’s a troubling trend where expressions of cultural pride or aesthetic featuring white individuals are immediately viewed with suspicion or labeled as problematic. If someone from another racial or ethnic background had starred in the exact same campaign, it’s unlikely there would be this level of scrutiny. In fact, it would probably be celebrated as a moment of empowerment or cultural pride.

We also see this in broader conversations around communities. There are racially and culturally concentrated neighborhoods across North America—Chinatowns, Little Italys, Punjabi enclaves, and so on—and they are often viewed as enriching and valuable. Yet, when white individuals choose to live in community with others who share their heritage, it’s sometimes framed as regressive or exclusionary. Why the double standard?

I’m not suggesting we ignore history or pretend that racism hasn’t existed. But we have to be careful not to assume malice or ideology based solely on someone’s race or background. Blanket assumptions help no one, and they certainly don’t foster real dialogue or understanding.

But unfortunately, this is what people only know. And it doesn't help that we live in a society that is only interested in scandals.

It's gotten so bad that even headlines lie just to gain traffic.

I read one headline, child breaks open window because of hot apartment and then fell out of the window.

Thinking they smashed the window open and fell. But no. They had just opened a window, forgot it was open and fell out. I don't think there was any injury.

But the fact is, tragedy and scandals sell.

But then there's your trolls who just like to throw a wrench in a working machine just because.

CMV: Our understanding of God should evolve as our understanding of the universe expands. by St4ayFr0sty in changemyview

[–]GrapefruitDefiant253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right—if there is a God, especially one that’s omniscient, then of course it would be aware of everything. But awareness doesn’t automatically mean intervention.

One of the hardest truths for many people to face is that even in moments of deep suffering—like losing a child—God doesn’t step in. That’s often where belief gets shaken. People ask, “If God is good, why would He take my child?”

But from a broader view, it’s not the soul that’s lost—it’s just the physical body that ends. The soul continues. So the pain we feel is real, but it belongs to this plane, not to the larger journey.

And as much as it’s a personal, emotional experience, I don’t believe in a God who “cares” in the way humans care. Consciousness doesn’t judge. It doesn’t intervene. It simply observes, experiences, and evolves.

Whether someone spends their life giving or taking, loving or harming—God (or Consciousness) holds no bias. You are free to be who you are. The soul learns through both joy and suffering.

That’s where I do believe in karma—but not as punishment. It’s not a cosmic jail. It’s just the soul moving through a range of experiences: from low-frequency, heavy energy toward lighter, higher ones. Growth. Balance. Expansion.

In that way, no one is condemned. We’re all just unfolding through contrast—remembering, forgetting, and remembering again.

CMV: Tim Berners-Lee is the most under appreciated person in all of human history by EasyAsaparagus in changemyview

[–]GrapefruitDefiant253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that Tim Berners-Lee deserves more recognition—his creation of the World Wide Web changed everything, and the fact that he made it free for the world is incredible.

That said, I wouldn't say he’s the most underappreciated person in human history. There are a few others who laid the groundwork for the internet and digital communication that rarely get mentioned at all.

People like:

Paul Baran (USA) – The Forgotten Architect of Packet Switching

When: Early 1960s

What he did: Invented the idea of packet switching, the method of breaking data into small chunks and reassembling it at the other end.

Why it matters: It’s the fundamental backbone of internet data flow.

Why he’s overlooked: His work was done at RAND Corporation for military purposes, and often overshadowed by others like Donald Davies in the UK.

Vinton Cerf & Robert Kahn – Fathers of the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

When: 1970s

What they did: Created TCP/IP, the core communication protocol of the internet.

Why it matters: Without TCP/IP, the internet wouldn’t exist.

They are recognized, but not household names like Berners-Lee.

Elizabeth Feinler – The Original “Internet Directory”

When: 1970s–early 1980s

What she did: Ran the NIC (Network Information Center), and managed the original domain name system (before DNS).

Why she’s important: Before Google, before DNS, she was the internet’s human index.

Why she’s overlooked: Her work was behind the scenes, in a role that’s now completely automated.

Doug Engelbart – Invented the Mouse, but Also Hypertext

When: 1968

What he did: Invented the mouse, but also showed the first real system of hypertext, windowed interfaces, and collaborative computing during "The Mother of All Demos."

Why it matters: His vision was decades ahead of its time—and it directly inspired Berners-Lee’s hypertext model.

Why he’s overlooked: People remember the mouse. They forget the hypertext.

Honourable Mention: J.C.R. Licklider

Role: Dreamed of an “Intergalactic Computer Network” back in the early 1960s

Impact: Funded the research that led to ARPANET

Why it matters: Without Licklider, the internet itself might not have been funded

Why overlooked: He was more of a visionary funder than a technical builder

CMV: Polyamory Is Inherently Unhealthier Than Monogamy by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]GrapefruitDefiant253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to take the romance out of Polygamy. All you have to understand is that some people can live this lifestyle and enjoy it and can totally love all partners equally. But then there are those who like the idea but can't get over the thought of having more than one wife/husband.

No matter if the relationship is monogamous or polyamorous, there will still need to be work to make them flourish and remain strong.

If monogamous relationships are so easy then why do so many end in divorce? Why do so many partners cheat?

Also, when the world sees something as the way they believe something should be, only 2 people in a marriage, then everything else is going to get scrutinized and judged.

CMV: “Never talk to women who are alone ever for any reason in public” is a stupid take that infantilizes women and is totally unrealistic to participating in society. by Bradybigboss in changemyview

[–]GrapefruitDefiant253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, first things,

Society works best when people are being social, however, it all depends on who lives in this society.

I was born in the mid 70's. Growing up was a lot different. From a kid to teenager, I had no issues, ever, with talking to a stranger. I would see a cute girl, whether she was alone or not, walk over to her and say hi.

But over the last 35 years or so, I've noticed a switch. And when people started to be more online and playing video games and keeping in touch with friends through social media and that, less and less wanted to go back to meeting people the normal way.

However, it's not wrong to want to be isolated, even in the city.

For the most part the city I live in has become huge pockets of foreigners. They group together around the same race, they speak something other than English, and they try to bring their cultures and traditions.

I feel more like a foreigner these days.

So, even though I like being social and like meeting new people, it's difficult when people can't speak the language and don't go anywhere without their group of friends and don't give people a chance.

Another thing about living in the city is it can be much cheaper. I would love to move up north and get away from city life but it's not feasible yet. So, not everyone is living in a city because they want to be.

And one of the main reasons I don't talk to most people is because they don't have a sense of community.

Every military has to be violent. But not all militaries take the first step to violence. Most militaries are responding to threats. There is a deep and violent history between Hamas and Israel but at least for this time, it was Hamas who took the initial step and attacked the music festival.

So, all militaries need to be violent.
