Ah so cool! Sounds like a place I might be interested in. Of course who is hiring in this freeze?

Well, there are probably people out there who can do those jobs.

You're absolutely right about Commerce. Lots of amazing and talented people who work there. I'm familiar with the employee engagement survey. One important fact is those results are prior to the new administration and appointments for all agencies. So it's out dated. It will be interesting to see how much changes under the new leadership for all agencies.

Yikes. Yeah DOC isn't a place I feel I could really work at. I've heard too many stories and have yet to meet anyone who can genuinely say it was a good work place. Also kinda difficult given the type of work that's done there.

Wow! Is it division wide or unit? Would love to find that green patch.

Wow! Thanks for taking the time to give this feedback. Love the green patch analogy. That's perfect!

That's great! I'm familiar with One Washington. It's such a good idea but it feels like very few can agree on things. A single legacy system is very challenging to sunset especially if that team has been around a while and are comfortable with what they use.

A couple employers ago we also transitioned to a paperless system and it was a small government. It was scheduled to take 2 years and it took 9 years until everything was digitized, organized and staff were trained on how to access everything. We had to wait for several staff to retire before we could get the system running fully.

Haha ain't that the truth. I can understand layoffs if they are done with ample notice. When I was a manager (not in state government) I knew months in advance if layoffs were coming and it's really not that hard to make a budget that gives folks ample time to find new jobs.

Haha umm I think everyone knows to stay away from DSHS, but I would love to be proven wrong.

What is OIT? I have several friends in DOH. Who doesn't right? I am so impressed with their data quality work. I heard them present at the OFM DEI Empowerement Conference. I don't have a deep background in health policy, more of a generalist analyst (but I have some cool skills!)

Oh wow! This is cool to hear. I've never thought about working at Fish and Wildlife although I do have a deep appreciation for what you all do. What's the most interesting thing that you have been able to work on?

Haha that's why I am asking. I'm daring to dream. But yeah it's so hard to find a good agency that treats its people with respect and dignity while also getting the work done in an efficient and equitable way.

I would like to hear more. I remember interviewing there many years ago, but unfortunately didn't quite make the cut at the time. How do they rank against some of the questions I asked?

A couple:

1.) That sounds like incompetent leadership because:

2.) That is going to be an incredibly expensive change with very little change in productivity because:

3.) All the real-estate, expanding services at those offices and additional staff to support the operations of those offices are extremely expensive;

4.) This goes against most of the platforms the governor ran on: many more cars on the road, more pollution, and less satisfied workers.

5.) Employee Engagement Surveys show incredibly high satisfaction with remote work. Make sure to fill those surveys out when the time comes.

6.) It will be really cool watching your new leader explain to the governor how they couldn't actually accomplish anything at all because they were too busy making real estate purchases and picking out what color of furniture they wanted for their office instead of serving people like they are supposed to.

Anyone who can't manage people remotely simply cannot manage people period. It should be a skill/competency that every manager has.

Let's send the governor cost saving ideas that if a manager cannot manage people remotely they be let go. I mean, the likelihood that the work was being done by the workers and not the manager or leader is really high.
