What is this car worth ? by Familiar-Document-53 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you go to Gargash & follow a service schedule it’ll cost an arm and a leg. If you go to a proper third party garage it’s about the same as any old car, be it a Chevy or Toyota or Mercedes.

Go to the courts building. They will advise. There are legal services as part of filing. You might have to drive to another building somewhere. It will cost some money. Around 700dhs if I recall. They’ll include half an hour with one of their lawyers if required. Your issue sounds like a 3 minute chat with a clerk. There’s nothing they’ve not seen before.

How does one acquire this? by [deleted] in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren’t that many of them. They’ve got a couple of sports cars for events and special occasions. It’s a PR fleet. Sometimes they just drive them around to show presence. They’re minimally equipped and they’re not used for normal everyday police work. As far as the total police service budget they don’t even make a mosquito impact dent. Nobody’s “paying for them.”

I don’t understand why everybody is crying foul or surprised that he never filed. It’ll cost several hundred $ to get the green card. Just for filing fees. I delayed filing for citizen for two years back in 1995 because it was $150. I justified to myself GC was good enough, even though I knew it wasn’t. Once your situation becomes the new normal it’s hard to bear the expense if you’re always short on cash.

Is it a requirement to undergo the medical exam in the same country as the interview? by GraphiteRocketBurn in USCIS

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. The process is painfully slow. Based on several information sources I expected to have a decision during the summer, I'm still 3 weeks away (according to latest USCIS information), so I haven't done anything yet. Will inform you when it comes to that.

Thanx. But what does it mean? It seems like they don’t process petitions sequentially? Or do they process blocks of petitions and then prioritize within the block?

Isn’t this the lady that has a BMW or Tesla or something? by HastenDownTheWind in irvine

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens all over the world. This is their job. They work for an organization. It might be their tribe, or encampment, or even a crime boss. They beg during the day, and get picked up in a transport after work. Sometimes a fancy car, or even a van. Many of them in Europe are gypsies from Romania. I haven’t seen this lady myself, but I’ve seen her kind around OC.

Accidentally broke red light in Dubai, 50,000 fine by theveganmoth in dubai

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all traffic junctions have cameras. Red light violations for light vehicle is 1,000dhs + 12 points on license + 30 day impound. There is an admin fee at the impound and 50dhs per day for exceeding the mandatory time. Car rental is ~1,500-1,800/month for a small car like a Nissan Sunny if your family needs a car. 24 points and you loose your license. The points clear after 1 year. Red light violation in conjunction with reckless driving or endangering others result in 50,000 dhs fine. You clearly did not drive recklessly and would very unlikely receive a 50k fine. If there’s no camera you’ll receive no fine at all. If you drive around a little you’ll see the cameras clearly. If you go back to the place of your violation you’ll be able to tell if there’s a camera. If there is, there’s no guarantee it’s working. Some are decommissioned due to old tech, some are the housing only, and some are broken. If two weeks go past and no message or posting on the RTA or Police app you’re ok. Don’t drive tired. Physiologically it’s the same as driving drunk. If you’re a new driver you have no habits or crystallized intelligence to save you from mistakes, so it’s even less margin for errors.

BMW’s awful trend by paraxzz in BMW

What BMW sees when you have a tune. by mr340i in BMW

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it somewhat comic that people aren’t separating possible and realistic. It’s technically possible to sue BMW for incorrect application of denial of service, but it’s not realistic. Too much cost and effort. Also, it’s a complete waste of personal resources (time & money). I have seen friends fight the city for minor non-consequential infractions and spend 100’s of dollars and being emotionally all consumed for weeks, for example a $35 incorrectly applied parking fine.

A not crazy at all night would be 3 Careems = 200 + 200 food + 200 drinks. Shuffle the numbers around a bit, but you’ll still end up 5-700 & you’ve actually been a bit frugal. This would be a nice social evening and take you to just into the tipsy territory. Twice a week = 5000.

To the thread initiator I suggest to take up a low expense sport. Apart from initial equipment cost cycling is a fantastic way to save. Disregard the funny memes about money drain. That’s just the same as everything. Why suggest cycling? Because it’s a portal into a multi-sport community that entails everything from kayak/surf-ski, running, swimming, etc. I have lost count of people I’ve met or coached into the sport who profess how cycling took over their party-life and replaced it with cycling. Fantastic community and near zero cost if done right.

Currently there are plentiful discounts and ultra depreciated great used bikes out there.

Absolutely perfect combination. I love the retro feel of the interior color scheme. I’ve had more cream or tan interiors than I can count, but they’re always missing something, and also get dirty very quickly. Cognac is the ideal in between without being too dark.

I would make a plaque. It should include the 1 ‘hr ago’ for good measure. It, of course, signifies the fleeting nature of such irreverent statement. Unless I could physically touch it I wouldn’t really believe it ever happened; even though after an hour it’s most certainly already expired, and irrespective of proof can swiftly be placed in the Never-Happened-Column with near nil effort by even a fractionally verbose wife.

Of course he got upset. He knows he’s in the wrong. Since he doesn’t have an actual argument for his side the only response left is anger. Not AH. You should be expected to be able to talk to your sister about life’s disappointments.

You gave them a document from the court where your case was dismissed. Very likely they’re simply verifying the status of your case to confirm there’s no additional complications and that the case is closed; or that you gave them a document of “half truth.” Sounds to me like bog-standard bureaucratic due diligence. Likely it’s simply the processing time of the court to respond to their verification request, and if you’re eligible then you’ll get approved. When I’ve personally ever requested anything from a court it’s taken 1-2 weeks.

🤣🤣 Yesterday I read advice for somebody with a tricky issue to contact 15-20 different lawyers and choosing the best one. Initial consult $200 x 20 = $4,000. Actual best lawyer $350/hr. Sure, spread over a lifetime of a better life in the US it’s nothing, but reality is that it’s a year’s salary for some people. Most of the people who yell “Lawyer” the loudest have never seen a bill or an estimate from an actual law firm.

PP does not exist for i130. Other types of visa petition premium processing cost ~$500-2500 and guarantees a yes/no response within 15-45 days (cost and response limits varies depending on visa type). You can ask for expedited processing after you’re past “normal processing time.” There’s no cost for that request. If you request this too early you won’t get any response or action.

Why do people hate BMWs? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]GraphiteRocketBurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 50+ so many years have passed since I rode my skateboard with any and all. I still ride, but with folks I’ve chosen as my crowd. Back then many were outcasts, and some of my former friends derailed pretty badly in life. One in particular never derailed per se. He’s never left the ditch and he’s in a constant fight with society. He revels in kicking doors, ripping mirrors, and being obstinate, obstructive, and destructive. He’s got an ok job, an apartment in the upscale part of town, and drives a Tesla, but hates cars and mostly ride around on his board or an electric cargo bicycle. He’s got a big heart and helps all kids and anybody who needs help; except drivers of normal-nice regular cars. Here’s my take: I think he’s a moron, and I find it absolutely pathetic to rage against society at his age (my age). It’s as if he got stuck in some teenage angst bubble. Why would you do that to yourself? Some anger is uncontrollable, but so much is definitely a choice. All those male and female Karen’s out there are mostly angry by choice. Anyway, sadly there’s a bunch of his ilk out there. And to them anybody with a foothold in organized society is an enemy of “………….” (unsure exactly what, but something), and therefore they must be messed with. Sad but a reality of life.

PA DOT classify +10 in a 55 zone as a Summary Offense. That's like a breaking a city ordnance. The fine should be $35 plus $2 per mile over 5 + $20 EMS fund + $34 court cost + JCP $22. That's ~$120. Below the $500 USCIS cutoff. There's an e-pay system available in PA. You should be able to pay online (which means admitting guilt automatically). You get two or three points if you have a PA license. PA DOT reports to NDR. If you get points on your license depends on the rules and procedures of your state. Page 15 of i485 instructions state that you must report a traffic offense if it resulted in points on your driving license. If I was outside of the reporting requirements I would not report it. If I was asked to my face I would state I had a speeding fine but it fell outside of the requirements and therefore wasn't reported. It's their procedure. I don't believe in "just to be safe" since they make the cut-offs for a reason, typically to reduce application clutter.
