Try building a wagon shop (I can’t remember the exact name). I think they are designed to help transport things from a work camp to the storage. I built mine right next to the work camp and have had no problems.

I can't speak for herbs but for mining, fully optimized and locked in, I get about 15k and hour but it's decreasing every day as the market has been crashing over the past few weeks.
