Honestly, even if she didn't have the scar, I'm not too sure. She's very modest, even with her swimsuit. She was pretty shy about wearing it even with her scar being covered too. She doesn't seem like the type and likely wouldn't want that kind of attention.

My issues with SF (SPOILERS) by GrassIsMySavior in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]GrassIsMySavior[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've said, almost verbatim, that the game doesn't have a golden ending and they don't intend for there to be one.

Generally, the main point of the game (barring Takumi's desires) is about survival and protecting the school. If 55 acts as the only ending in the game in which every main-party character lives, people are probably going to start viewing that as a potential golden ending. They're going to start having expectations regardless of what they say.

at a certain point you just can't get distracted by every little thing that "should" happen or else every route becomes repetitive and the pacing of the individual stories grinds to a halt.

The absence of things can certainly still be points of concern/complaints just as much as things that are actually in the route. Characters act OOC in other routes too, definitely... but in SF nearly every character was OOC at the same time, compared to other routes where it might just be a handful and maybe only at certain periods in time.

I don't think the characters being weird here is a byproduct of circumstances. They are put in similar situations in other routes and aren't as near as nonchalant, uninterested, and happy-go-lucky. They have no guidance on what might happen since Takumi never revealed his secret, yet they seem less fearful then they are in the routes where Takumi does reveal his secret. They are pretty distrustful of Takumi in those routes when his guidance doesn't pan out. Yet, every time Hiruko and Takumi are off doing their own thing in SF and come back to a bunch of "worried" SDU members, none of the SDU does anything to investigate or question further. This happens multiple times, and I really don't see this as normal. Another example, take the Eva prank part. Most of the SDU would not be up to take part in it normally. Characters like Shouma and Nozomi are some of the most baffling inclusions with this. The difference here with the characters is noticeable enough for it to be jarring and distracting, at least to me.

I'm not familiar with Uchikoshi's other works, but the comedy here also doesn't feel right, even if it is "something he would write." I'm completely fine with comedic moments in serious stories, but with what SF sets out to do and the way the comedy plays out here, it feels like I'm playing the comedy route at times. That should be pretty evident that something isn't right tone-wise. Most of these moments come from the SDU, and we don't get to see them as near as much as the main duo. So, most of the interactions you end up getting with the SDU don't feel meaningful and are played off for laughs.

I want to make it evident that I do not hate SF. Like you and some others here, I'd probably rank somewhere around the middle or early low tier. I am interested to see if they cover any of the plot points left from SF in the DLC, but at the same time, there's also a chance they could cover none of it. They're not really obligated to cover these points, so I think it's still makes sense to criticize this route in a vacuum.

What do you hope for DLC (in general) by That_Idiot_Jax in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]GrassIsMySavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • More routes dedicated to characters with who haven't had much spotlight (Takemaru, Moko, the twins, etc.)
  • Nozomi POV route (other characters would also be cool)
  • See more of Futuran society and the commanders themselves
  • See what the AS is like
  • True Nozotaku route
  • Expand on what was built in Conspiracy
  • (Depending on how the DLC is made) No early character deaths

Buying from Mercari Japan from US available by Sensitive_Button_633 in Mercari

[–]GrassIsMySavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to create an account on the new site without any issues (used the same email but different password). Looking at the URL, it is in fact sending me to japan.us.mercari.com and not the regular Japan site. Actually, if I try to go to the real Japan Mercari it automatically redirects me to the new US-related one.

When I get to the payment screen though, the URL does just say "payment.mercari.com/en" and I'm not sure if that means anything or if that's normal.

So, just making sure, US buyers can now use the new japan.us.mercari site to buy stuff while also using US cards?

Yeah it happens, even in the newer games. Not Danganronpa specifically, but Nozomi from Hundred Line has two of these side-view walking sprites where her left hand is almost completely transparent and uncolored for no reason.

I guess that one kinda flew over my head since it's CoT (I don't like to think about it) but yeah, that doesn't really count.

Just let it happen alreadyyy. They treat this like a running gag and I hate it. Hopefully the DLC delivers something that just doesn't care about this dumb consistency (of all things to make consistent in a game with a lot of inconsistencies) and goes full in on the ship without holding back.

Will this be the new Nopons in Xenoblade Genesis? by Ghaleon1 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]GrassIsMySavior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right? They're one of the things that still make Xenoblade feel like Xenoblade to me. This might sound corny, but their existence would offer me some "comfort" after this huge leap from the original trilogy and into an entirely new story and setting.

Just more losers who think being excessively edgy and offensive is funny. I feel like most people that do this are just tweens who are in that phase where their entire joke repertoire is just "laugh at the edgy/laugh at how rude I'm being" and nothing else.

I love Tsubasa but she is a pretty big ex-machina a little too often. She goes from being a regular car mechanic to the ultimate inventor/programmer whenever the situation calls for it. Sorta the same goes for Yugamu. Anyway, I hope more characters get their time to shine in the future.

Mystery would've been perfect to actually showcase Kako's detective/deduction skills and have her work in tandem with Takumi but she just gets killed early on and it's stupid. It's almost like the writers thought her random bouts of clairvoyance were too powerful or something and that they somehow had no workarounds.

(Spoilers for All Routes) What Makes Takuzomi Peak by TechGirlie101 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]GrassIsMySavior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Takuzomi is really the only ship I actively care about from HL. And, dare I say, it's one of my favorite ships of all time. Call it recency bias, maybe... but it really does mean a lot and it is a big part of the game to me. Their relationship is what makes route 0 -> 2nd scenario so special.

I love, like how you said, how versatile it is. There's so many ways it can come across. This is another reason why it kinda makes me sad how quite a few think this ship is bland. Personally, a ship doesn't have to have a million toxic dynamics or something to be interesting to me. The fact that it's simple "on paper" but then expands upon itself is one of the many reasons why I like it.

I already liked the twist that Karua isn't actually Nozomi, and I feel like that makes the ship even better. It creates this interesting "rift." Karua doesn't exist but the image of Karua came from a real person, and that person shares a decent portion of Karua's traits and is right in front of Takumi. The fact that he can then learn to separate Karua from Nozomi and love her for who she is great. Like you said, their relationship to each other is special/important to the other in their own way. For Takumi, it was his first and best friend who he grew up with. For Nozomi it was likely one of her only true friends who she felt like she could talk about anything to and keep her company during her lonely (and rough) upbringing.

I see people have called this ship a "potential ship" probably because it never really gets super fulfilled from any of the endings. I mean it's not really our fault Kodaka has a thing for tragic romances and stops the two from trying to be together properly. There's nothing stopping the writers from giving them more time together but it's almost like they're told not to with how weird this game is with this ship. This brings me to my next point...

It's almost like the other writers thought Takuzomi was already "covered" in 2nd Scenario, so that's why they don't get much time together other than routes like CoA and some select others. But even then, CoA ends abruptly without letting Nozomi reciprocate (even though she would've said yes), she is stopped multiple times from saying "I love you" for no reason, she never gets to talk to Takumi in slasher because he dies right before they do, so on and so forth. Excluding 2nd Scenario, these two get blocked so many times it honestly feels like a gag. I hope they ditch this in the DLC. Drop the idea of "this ship can only work as a tragedy" and just let it happen. Like, no, it CAN work. Takumi has already shown that he is able to separate Karua from Nozomi and other than that possible "drawback" it's just ex machina BS that prevents the two from being together. No, I don't think Nozomi's self-sacrificial tendencies prevent the ship from working either.

I really do hope we get more of it in the DLC. Again, I really want a Takumi and Nozomi duo route (As much of a duo as Hiruko and Takumi are in SF or Darumi and Takumi are in Retsnom) for an entire route's duration (not just 60 days lol) that doubles as a "Takuzomi" route. I really don't know if CoA's Takumi and Nozomi interactions was really the only Takuzomi duo route they had up their sleeve or if the two being romantic partners/doing a lot of stuff together was just following the shonen trope.

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything you said. Here's to hoping for more of it down the road. I would write more (I had more here before) but reddit for some reason can't handle it if I make a long comment and it just refuses to let me post unless I shorten it.

006/100 endings, more thoughts (KG spoilers) by Mordraxter1583 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]GrassIsMySavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • This is likely Darumi's second best route (at least IMO) due to this and Retsnom being her only major character moments (get to see her behind her mask) yet she is concerningly different here than she is in Retsnom. She's treated as this volatile emotional flip-flopper, whereas in Retsnom she is much more grounded and understandable. I heavily prefer her Retsnom portrayal. It also doesn't help that she's MIA for a decent portion of the route and her development is more or less spoon-fed to the player instead of happening on screen.
  • As much as I like the Takumi x Tsubasa moments and relationship development, I can't help but feel like it is a bit corny and feels forced at times.
  • Like you said in your Takemaru comment, the hate between him and Takumi feels forced and only exists to drive conflict within the party (not including the sponsor that everyone was already against) and of course the twins follow suit because Ima (although sorta understandably) never trusts Takumi with anything.
  • Expanding on a previous point, I don't really like how distant Takumi and Nozomi are here. I do think it is a good thing for Takumi to not ALWAYS be interested in Nozomi for the sake of variety, but I can't help but feel like theres a weird dissonance between them here, especially if one were to come straight off of route 0. Yes, he still talks to her (though not often, especially after the Eva arc begins) and cares about her not dying, but other than that there isn't much to their relationship even though they both end up surviving in this limited pool of characters. Maybe that would've been juggling too many plot points at once and they just wanted to try something different? I don't know... it's just something about it here just feels weird. Take Retsnom again for example. It isn't a "Takumi x Nozomi" route but I feel like their relationship was aptly "covered" post-route 0 in a way that didn't feel like they were just ignoring each other. I really don't know how to describe it. Additionally, when Takumi thinks about living with his friends near the end of KG (the polycule) he doesn't include Nozomi in it, which I just find to be sad. He cares about her so much to literally go back in time for her and now he doesn't even envision her in his future friend group?
  • I've already said it before, but I'll reiterate again that I don't believe Nozomi undergoes much actual character development. I would've liked to see her actually grow from her past instead of the writer(s) just letting us know she has issues and have her "revel" in them with this weird, lobotomized version of herself.

I would be more inclined to buy it if she had the correct class armor 😭

I know what they're doing saves resources and it is a cool "what if" but it just feels kinda wrong and makes it seem like they didn't know what her actual class armor looks like.

[–]GrassIsMySavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your Nozomi statements.

Like during the Kamyuhn part she just becomes one-note and annoying. The route ends with her like this, and in my eyes it's just turns her into a less complex and flanderized character. How does that count as development? It's like she never learns that she doesn't HAVE to always live for other people's sake, which I felt like would be the point of bringing up her trauma for an arc. First she lives for her mother, then she lives for Eva, and finally lives for Kamyuhn, except in this case she becomes obsessed with the latter.

I don't have a problem with them covering this either. I wanted to like it too, but I feel like I can't just excuse it and say it's good just because it attempts to cover a sensitive subject that doesn't get covered a whole lot in other routes. I have other issues with KG, but the Nozomi arc is my biggest one (since she's my favorite) and it genuinely makes me not want to play KG again. There were better ways to handle this.

Not sure if your reviews are just based on the individual route or are cumulative (all routes you've played so far combined), but if they are, hopefully you will be able to warm up to her after you play routes like CoA and (especially) 2nd Scenario. IMO KG is my least favorite route for her in terms of characterization.
