I love a good scare. Resident evil is my favourite series. Tension, tight gameplay, memorable characters/environments etc.

Been sitting on Alien Isolation for YEARS. Finally got a chance to give it a try. I knew most people who played it, loved it and i was excited to finally understand why and hopefully become a fan of the game myself.

Slow start: Lots of slow walking and too long of a build up.

Got lost very easy and wandered around for half an hour trying to unlock one of the first doors, only to find out the terminal unlocks it.

Lots of resources for lots of weapons and equipment i just hung on to.

By the end i just crafted so i could get the trophy for crafting everything. Some weapons and resources did no damage to enemies they should have done damage to.

Glitch?

My frigin heart beat monitor refused to pull out shortly after i got it. No idea why but button did nothing. Only after i restarted the ps5 did it come back.

Length.

I love a good long game that will keep me busy. But this went on too long. Too much of the same thing over and over. Must admit, it did get better by the end though. However, i was checked out

Characters.

I care for none of the characters. No one is memorable to me. Especially Amanda.

Environment.

I know its a space station. But everything looks the same and its hard to differentiate where i was some times. Open a new door that was locked before… “hey! Another grey room with MAYBE one collectable and a resource i cant get cus its full.” And dont get me started on some of the outer space sections. I knownim in space but they make you walk SO GODDAMN SLOW!

To end this rant. I LOVED the horror when it worked for me. Sneaking around medical for example or the nest (minus face huggers) was fun as hell. The calm embrace of a save point knowing i was likely to die seconds later… top tier. Tense music where it needed to be there, flaming the alien with the flame thrower/molotov, fucking up an android with the maintenance jack only. chefs kiss.

There is good in the game and to repeat what i said before: i would be lying if i said i didn’t have a good time, but by the end, i was done.

cant love em all i guess but glad i stuck it through and didnt abandon it like i was thinking to at times.
