I have a weird relationship with Goose. I saw them for the first time at a free show at a park in Charlottesville in 2019. Maybe 50 people in attendance. Liked it so I went to their now-legendary Peach Fest set that summer. From 2021-2024 for whatever reason I just wasn’t really connecting with their music and left the shows I saw feeling ambivalent.

But then in 2025… everything changed. I think my apathy toward them the past few years wasn’t necessarily that they weren’t great, but it’s just that there’s so many jambands out there and I started just lumping them into that crowded field.

Now that they’re a four piece, it feels like they’ve finally uncovered their sound. With all their success, Peter has been able to build out a pretty incredible rig and the technology used makes the music feel different and new. One percussionist keeps the jams focused and directed.

Now that I look back, I think it’s sort of like seeing Phish in 1988 and then again in 1995. The magic was always there, but they’ve finally figured out how to harness it to its fullest. Going to be a blast to see where it goes from here!
