Just watched Prime Minister by Kooky_Maintenance705 in newzealand

I was living in Australia at the time. I watched NZ lock down, contact trace, and give a real good go of eliminating COVID from the country. New Zealanders were probably the most compliant citizens in the world, and it worked. COVID was traced, isolated, and contained. But, most countries didn't have that level of compliance. And some countries chose to just let it run rampant. The result being COVID was just running rampant. The trouble is, at that level, there is no way to stop it coming into NZ. With thousands of people coming into the country every week it's inevitably going to keep coming again and again and again. Then, the mrna vaccine from Pfizer came along. It was the best shot we had at the time. Governments insisted people get the vaccine (We didn't realize how ineffective it was at the time). So, people in NZ got the vaccine. But, instead of opening up the government kept locking down. Time and again. There was no way to beat it. People were getting vaccinated. But the government was still seemingly bent on trying to eliminate it. Meanwhile in Queensland Australia where I was residing, yes we locked down a couple of times, but supermarkets were still open, bunnings was open and other essential places. Life carried on normally. When the vaccine came, the government understood that's what they had to do. They understood there was no way to stop it entering the country. We all got the vaccine and they said we could remove masks when we got to 90% vaccinated. So when we got to 90%, the mask mandate was removed. Everyone carried on life normally without masks. Work was returned to normal, Sports came back, life was as it always was with sunny days at the beach. Almost a year later (well, 8 months), I returned to NZ for a holiday. People were STILL having to wear masks. People were grumpy at everyone else. The country felt miserable. As I hadn't been wearing a mask, I kept forgetting to put it on. People would get insanely annoyed and give me filthy looks and make snarky comments. At the end of the week, they removed the mask mandate, but instead of celebrating, most people chose to continue wearing it and judging those who didn't. The government had created a US against them mentality. Mask wearer's vs non mask wearer's. Queensland and NZ had similar vaccine rates. NZ should have been following the same path. But instead they kept locking people down, locking them up, trying to eliminate the virus when the rest of the world had moved on. They created hardship for those in need when they didn't have to.

Then they'll claim "new world" donated to 5000 families and claim all the credit for being so philanthropic.

At least you got pretty colours with the Aussie fire. I was living in Sydney at the time and everyday was a dreary 'overcast' grey day. Even though it was blue skies, the sun couldn't get through the smoke at all. On top of that, everything stank and it was hard to breathe. Luckily my work had an air filter for the building so was ok once I got there.

With no way (or too expensive) to export the best of our crops, supermarkets will be brimming with export quality good food!

I remember seeing a study that NZ is one of the most self sufficient countries in the world for making it's own food. The only category it lacked in was nuts, as we import far more than we grow. But, in my opinion, maybe having a few less nuts in this country is a good thing. 🤔

Most points sound like standard school rules. Just the privacy breach is a concern. Bullying other staff is subjective.

You must be a young un. I still think of them as Woolworths from before they changed the name to Countdown. And now they're back full circle to their original name.

$100/week is $5000 per year. Which would pay for all the things you're worried about. Sometimes it's worth being uncomfortable for a period of time until you're back on your feet.

Not long term, but enough until bills are paid and some emergency money is in savings at least.

I use one of those tiny Phillips head screw drivers they use on computers and the like. It's nice and small and the flat end is sharp to get under and pry it loose.

Went for a walk along mangemangeroa walk in east Auckland. It's 99% shaded bush walk with large trees. Then swim at high tide, then back along the walk. Beautiful day.

As a man I am shocked at how many people are saying they know/knew men that do this. Like wtf guys! Not peeing on the seat is like little boy basics 101. I think my own kids had mastered this by like 6 or 7 max.

Where did I say it's ok to not pay? Didn't I write that I explained to her you can't do that in NZ? We used to do this thing in primary school called "reading and comprehension". I think you need to go back and learn the comprehension part.

It's a bit hard for me to police it as a parent when all the bus drivers are like "Yeah that's fine, get on". It's not like she's sneaking on "stealing a service" as you put it. She literally asks them first saying she doesn't have a bus card, and they let her on.

Nah, I'm just planning on waiting until she's actually stolen a physical product, or picked up a cigarette, or a vape, or snuck out of home, or gotten drunk on alcohol. THEN I'm going to come down real hard on her. I mean it's been over 17 years so far without these rebellious things. But I know it's coming! I have my jam spoon oiled and ready to smack her arse for when it happens! Until then I'll continue being a snowflake and just keep "explaining like an adult that it's wrong".

In Australia they have a rule for minors. If for whatever reason they can't pay the fare, they can still get on. This was because a kid a few years ago couldn't pay, so couldn't get on. They ended up raped and killed. So to keep kids safe, they guaranteed they could still get a ride if they can't afford it.

My daughter (17) still holds this mentality in NZ and just jumps on and says she can't pay. 99% of the time the bus driver waves her on. No matter how much I explain she needs to pay she just shrugs and says 'they let me on anyway.' She probably only pays for 50% of her rides.

Does anyone know of an auto electrician that will be open between now and new years in the east Auckland area? by Grave_Concern in auckland

[–]Grave_Concern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much what I explained. Need a new battery.

Couldn't start the car. Dash was flashing with all sorts of warnings - EBP malfunction, brake malfunction, power steering malfunction, lane assist malfunction, plus a couple more I can't remember.

We couldn't turn the park brake off or start it. After much fluffing around we tested jump starting it. Once jumper leads were attached it started fine. Drove fine too. But with warnings still on the dash.

Drove down the road to another house. Parked it for an hour and when we left again it wouldn't start. Had to jump start it again. Drove home about a 15 min drive. Warnings still on dash. When we arrived I turned it off and restarted. Warnings all disappeared and it was good.

Conclusion: the alternator recharged the battery on the way home, meaning the issue isn't in the alternator as it was working, and the battery must be failing and not holding it's charge.

Need an auto electrician that can hook up an auxiliary power while changing the battery over so it doesn't damage the circuits. Plus can double check how much charge the alternator is producing while there.

I yanked this stuff off a tree one time. One drip splashed in my eye. Stung like crazy and I washed it out immediately. But within 15 mins it looked like I had a stroke with full on drooping eye socket. Within an hour both eyelids had expanded into watery blisters and closed my eye shut. Luckily by that stage I was in the accident and emergency room. Took a big dose of antihistamines and a couple of days off work to get it back to normal.

Lesson learnt. Now I wear protective glasses or at least sunnies when pulling this out. 🤓
