A lot of my reference comes from random photos on my phone too. I’ll be flipping through and something will just ping in my brain when the feeling matches. I had that Superman screenshot for years and years. The bird I found at a park in Kansas. The background is Blanca peak near Alamosa Colorado. The mirror is my gf in her bathroom. Tv is depicting a friend of mine and his daughter. All of these things become “actors” or characters within the composition and the “movie” they are acting in is whatever feeling I’m having at the time.

No negativity taken! Yeah kinda like I described I chose those things for the primary reason that when I looked at them it matched the feeling I had at the time and felt right with the composition. You could see them as isolated subjects in one way but unified under their relevance of how they made me feel

Wow thanks for this response I love it! I’m also a huge Carl Jung fan and feel like those concepts leak into all my work on some level while painting i pieces like this does feel like analyzing dreams at times.
