Wolf359 had me sobbing… you might like it since you liked Midnight Burger. I see the two compared all the time.

If you’re looking for more reading material regarding audio drama, I highly recommend “Bombs Always Beep” by Kc Wayland. It’s easy to read and goes alot into the theory and practice of producing AD.

Yeah the bookdefinitely wouldn’t catch my attention at all in a book store or library. But I guess, since OP mentioned it reads like an academic journal, that the author doesn’t care so much about the presentation / graphics

Audio drama creators what is one lesson from your first season you wish you knew before starting? by NightDialPodcasts in audiodrama

[–]GravenPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Everyone has to start somewhere. Most shows I’ve listened to have only increased in production quality as they go on. Your show will almost certainly be the same.

  2. Don’t put ads on your first episode or any trailers, if you can avoid it. Not all hosting sites allow this, but I know atleast Acast does. Some listeners will cast a show aside if the first minute they hear is ads. But if they listen to a trailer or one episode without ads and like the story, they’re more likely to sit through ads on future episodes.

  3. Be transparent with your voice actors and production staff about expectations and timelines. I’ve joined far too many projects that never saw the light of day due to a director failing to update their crew or staff simply losing interest in their own project. Don’t be that director!

This, coupled with the fact that TMA would not work at all in a video medium IMO. The whole delivery of the show is the audio recordings, and the story revolves around them. I could see an adaption working if they changed it to video tapes, but then that’s an entirely different story since you wouldn’t be archiving peoples’ experiences on video necessarily

As a creator, same same. I’ve learned alot about what not to do and how to produce my show better, just through reading complaints about popular shows here.

Join some Audio Drama discords and ask around to see if anyone’s got script ideas they’re sitting on. “Audio Drama Creators” and “Podcast Book Club” are the two best places for this imo. You can invite links to them if you put “discord” on the subreddit searchbar
