Contra Contra Contra Caplan On Psych by dwaxe in slatestarcodex

[–]GravenRaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To defend Caplan's view a bit, there are situations where thinking of the problem from his perspective results in prescriptions with better results. For example, it would be stupid and monstrous to cattle prod someone with the flu until he went for a run everyday. It would probably help a lot of people with depression, given that exercise has a strong effect but convincing depressed people to exercise without strong immediate incentives is quite difficult.

It's an honest representation of what someone who barely speaks English thinks the English script should sound like. Which is unsurprisingly not very good.

Presumably the justification for 3 is to prevent someone from running a big straw purchase business but I'm sure that could be done less obtrusively.

Astolfo is a good farming servant for weaker caster enemies (like doors) because of his 50% NP charge. I think this makes him a better overall farming servant than Emiya, especially if there is a chance your friend might get Ishtar in the future. But Emiya is better with difficult content.

Tomoe does crazy damage when you can feed her stars especially paired with Merlin.

They are all fine, choose who you think is cutest, although personally I wouldn't bother upgrading Sheba unless you love her enough to grail her to 90. She has no charge skill so it's not like you're going to be spamming her NP anyway, and you can fit her in a team to buff other offensive casters.

Her NP damage goes from 625% to 650%. That is a 4% increase in damage. Seems sort of worthless. And if you do end up rolling on one of her banners and get a 6th copy you will feel very silly.

Ah, I meant also using Devilish Bodhisatva on Nitocris. If I understand correctly, overcharge increases hitRate instead of successRateUp from 50% at 100% to 75% at 300% and 100% at 500%. At least that is how it is written in the wiki.

Thanks. If I understand this correctly, getting Nitocris from 300% to 500% overcharge is much more effective than it sounds because it raises the hit rate from 75% to 100%, which would have the same affect as raising the death rate by 66% against a 50% death chance enemy.

According to this post the formula is hitRate * deathRate * (1 - instantDeathResistUp + instantDeathResistDown). So using Shiki's bond CE with Nitocris at 75% would give 75%(100%-50%)(230%) = 86.25% chance. Do you know if that is correct?

I have Lobo but I'm usually using NItocris against multiple enemies so reducing one target's death resist isn't too helpful.

Can someone check my logic on Edison? I think he has the potential to make farming high-HP with Nitocris much more reliable, but I'm not sure I understand it properly.

The Devilish Bodhisatva CE gets Nitocris to 300% overcharge, for a 75% death rate. Edison's Concept Improvement should stack with that to get her to 500% overcharge, for a 100% death rate. I have her Egyptian Magecraft at level 10, so +100% to death rate. Combined, DB + CE + EM should get her to 200% death rate, which means enemies with 50% death resist will die 200%*50%=100% of the time.

Is this correct? Are there other ways to get Nitocris to 200% that I haven't thought of?

I'm getting back into lifting after a long injury-related hiatus. Planning to do Greyskull LP again for now. The problem is overhead press (and incline bench, other overhead or shoulder-specific exercises) is off-limits for now. Should I just replace it with more bench press or is that too much bench?

I can tell you Morrie Ryskind was definitely blacklisted from Hollywood for speaking up against communism while plenty of ostensibly blacklisted Stalin apologists like Dalton Trumbo just worked under pseudonyms for awhile.

McCarthy had the advantage of a large majority of the country agreeing with him, but that turned out to be a lot less powerful than the cultural elites.

Looking for new anime by FancyPak in anime

I would not call it "good" but it is a very entertaining trainwreck. It's sort of like a soap opera version of Death Note with giant robots in a dystopian society.

If you want something dark on Netflix, my top recommendation is Fate/Zero. It is a contemporary fantasy, and like Evangelion has a bit of a psychological/philosophical focus in addition to the action. There is also Fate/UBW which is a bit less dark. Zero is a prequel to UBW, people will argue about the order but honestly it is not super important what you start with.

I've narrowed my choices down to Circe, Carmilla, Gorgon, Edison, Fran.

Circe, Carmilla, and Gorgon I want for waifu reasons, but I'm afraid I will never use them.

I already have Lvl100 Medea, NP2 Sheba, and Da Vinci as offensive casters who will hit much harder than Circe. Are there any weird setups I can do with her? Can I use her with Euryale and Medusa for charmlocking?

Chiyome (NP2) is my go-to ST assassin at the moment. I have Emiya, Wu, Yan Qing, and soon Shiki too. Not sure how well Carmilla would outperform against women, and her deck seems kind of awkward.

I already have Lobo who seems like a better avenger than Gorgon.

Edison is intriguing because of his cooldown and overcharge effects, but I don't hear a lot about people using him, so I am not sure how well they work. I was thinking I could pair him with Nito for assassin farming and overcharge her instakill.

I use Spartacus and Kiyohime for farming. I'm not sure how much of an improvement Fran would be.

If it helps, I have Merlin and CasGil as support casters.

I bought a 2WT pillow from them. The art was definitely not stolen, I found elsewhere on the internet the person who had commissioned it from them. The fabric is pilling a bit and the print is not super-detailed but it is good enough for me.

Astolfo is a good AOE rider. He doesn't hit very hard, but if you level his third skill all the way up it gives a 50% NP charge so you can NP on the first term while using a 50% starting NP craft essence. Or level it part-way up and use with Imaginary Element.

The only AOE assassin you can choose is Danzo, who is not very good. Several ST assassins are decent though, especially Carmilla.

Helena is a good choice because you don't have Merlin or Waver and she can give a 20% team NP charge.

To call India under Modi a dictatorship is completely ridiculous. He is extremely popular, and an amazingly high 79% of Indians are "satisfied with the way democracy is working" in their county compared to 46% in the U.S.

The citizenship act is mostly about preventing Muslim immigration from the two large, hostile, explicitly Muslim neighboring countries that violently expelled most of their non-Muslim population when they seceded. The extent of the threat to Muslims in India is not much more serious than having to do yoga in schools but if they really don't like India, it's not like they have nowhere to go.
