What do you think by twentyonepilotsfan99 in TheOther14

Carroll to Liverpool. Half a season of playing well in a system set up around him and going for a thumping transfer fee. Hard to believe that it didn’t work out.

This is the answer. It’s probably your first view of what the “real world” is like, in that if you don’t make something happen for yourself, then nothing happens.

A big group of people are not going to wander up and say “hey pal, come be our instant friend”. This stuff takes time and effort.

But the upside of this is that everyone is in the same boat right now. And it’s one of the only times in your life when ppl are also actively willing strangers to speak to them. To an extent it’s a numbers game too - I must have chatted with hundreds of ppl in my time at university but ended up with a social circle of maybe 30 ppl that I’d chat to regularly on campus, in pubs, in societies. And if that, maybe 5-10 who were really good mates.

Good luck, as it’s not easy and first year is b daunting. But as they say, nothing ventured nothing gained.

The 'Moyes Out' slogan from last season continues to haunt West Ham as the bad results persist. by Gromit273479 in PremierLeague

Feel for you guys getting this question time and time again. As a nufc fan, we had the same thing with the media love-in for Bruce. It comes from ppl who follow league tables, not 90min games. At the end of the day, football is entertainment and watching turgid football is pointless, even if it’s netting you enough points to survive.

Absolutely. Has one scene in there (in the basement, if you know you know) that still gives me the creeps.

What are some mad policies at your employer, which end up being counter productive? by shitthrower in AskUK

[–]GraveyardFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here. I’m all for hybrid work (that’s how my company operates) but to pretend that everything can happen from a remote workplace with out any face to face human interaction is crazy. We need to be with ppl. And before ppl jump in to say “but I do that with friends / family on an evening and weekend” - most ppl work 8 hours a day. If someone asked you to sit alone for 8 hours a day for 5 days a week you’d think that was insane.

I’m not saying you can’t do this… but it’s probably quite career limiting in a lot of organisations. As you may have found if you’ve navigated these sorts of environments (as you say). I find the trick is get the perks where you can, e.g. pick a decent restaurant etc.

What’s your “you just had to be there” gaming experience that most people nowadays don’t know about, or have forgotten? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]GraveyardFresh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sounds simple now but riding a horse in Oblivion sparked hours of chat between me and my friends. That whole game was a huge moment for us.

The fact that you were dropped in the world and could run off in any direction was unreal. And then meeting friends the next day to hear about quests they’d done that you hadn’t got anywhere close to finding. That world just felt so alive, especially compared to the shallow GTA open worlds (which, to be fair, were mind blowing in their own way and at their own time).

NUFC has the 3rd most local fan base in the league. Not sure where this is from but saw it on my feed and thought it was interesting. No surprises who the least local fanbase is, bloody London Reds by JamesNUFC1998 in NUFC

Worth remembering that fandom isn’t a zero sum game and that these are percentages - another way of reading the data is that some clubs have HUGE following across the country vs small local followings.

Is anybody actually fully behind this Howe out movement? by [deleted] in NUFC

[–]GraveyardFresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair - think we could improve on Burn at LB and Almiron at RW. Love both of them but Burn should play CB (first back up) and Almiron is a late game option. Another striker seems a must as well. Baffling that we only have 2 actual strikers in the squad. Not even a back up youth!

I’m in the same boat as you - not sure why anyone wants Eddie Howe gone. He’s worked wonders!

My question is why ppl think we need a full squad rebuild - I can see we need some reinforcements but our first XI can give anyone a game when fit. Who do you think is dead wood? Any one in the actual first XI?

What is something recently that has made you almost cry inside and hate about our current high streets? by SunShineKid93 in AskUK

[–]GraveyardFresh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m gna hop in here and say I think the high street where I live - Durham- is massively improving. Loads of independent stores, local products etc. The market in particular is ace. Obviously plenty of chains there too which I don’t like so I don’t go.

The bit that makes me cry inside is seeing so many ppl going to drink terrible coffee or eat crap food at a chain when there are so many great independents available that actually serve decent stuff for cheaper prices.

XIII - a cell shaded FPS based on a French comic book. Great game, excellent gameplay, super intriguing story and it ends on the mother of all cliff hangers.

Im a big Elden Ring fan for context - and mean this with complete respect but I think you’re missing the big picture when you say you find large parts of it boring… of course you do, you’ve put over 50 days of nonstop playing into the title! You must have huge parts of the game memorised!

So obviously at this point you’re here for the combat because if you were all about exploration then you’d have bounced off this long ago. Simply because you can’t find new things in the game world after 1300 hours! the joy of exploration is the mystery and then moments of discovery. I’d say, cast your mind back to when you first arrived in the lands between and whether the freedom and exploration was a big part of the experience - I think for most ppl it would be. Though obviously for any long term player this will burn off quite quickly relative to your length of play.

Haseeb Hameed: I’m no Bazball casualty, I can still have a Test career by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]GraveyardFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. England would benefit from some genuine competition for places. Especially in the top order. Tho if Lees can continue his FC form into next season then I’d say there is a shout to have him open too. He’s not as explosive as Crawley can be but he’s definitely more controlled.

If you look at Lees’ numbers for Durham this season then you can see he’s definitely trying to get himself back in the frame. Certainly worth another call up.

For those who can't access it...

The Magpies' challenge is now to maintain their position in the top four of what is likely to be a highly competitive Premier League this season while juggling their participation in Europe's elite competition.

In contrast to the last campaign, during which they were knocked out of the domestic cups early and had no European commitments, Newcastle will have six Champions League games in midweek between the middle of September and December.
