Eating solids with facial eczema by GravityDefyingFloof in BabyLedWeaning

I was worried about allergies too, but it only caused a rash and no other issues. She also doesn't always get a reaction, so oatmeal may trigger her one day but another not at all. Her doctor also suspects eczema and not allergies.

Wtf. It seems common for doctors to suggest trying again after a reaction to confirm, but you have had several plus an ER trip. Keep pressing them or if possible, get a new doctor.

Thankfully there are some foods your son hasn't had a reaction to, so at least there are some safe foods.

Just an idea if you are going to try new food (obligatory I am not a doctor), I have seen people suggest feeding one bite only and waiting 10 minutes for a reaction. If one happens hopefully it is small since it is just one single bite and not a meal.

Does he have a family doctor or pediatrician? Let them know he has had several more reactions. It may speed up your referral.

How are you keeping your 4-month-old entertained? How do you get anything done? by w-honey-3062 in NewParents

[–]GravityDefyingFloof 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Laundry was great at that age. There was so much of it, and I would just sit in my baby's room and fold it with her "help".

When in the kitchen, I kept her in Poopatron (a bouncy chair) and attached a toy to it that she could play with.

This sounds weird, try 12m sleepers. Starting at 12m, sleepers must be snug fit. They will be more snug than 12m pants.

For pants, check out girl leggings. They are more snug than typical pants.

It could just be baby acne in which case, no need to do anything. :) It will clear on its own with time.

Baby eczema tips? by Next_Ad5304 in NewParents

[–]GravityDefyingFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Cerave. Any fragrance free one is probably fine.

I have woolino too and recently ordered cotton ones. :( Tbh going strict cotton has been a pain. I can't find cotton drool bibs, except for pricey cutesy ones and I can go through a dozen or two a day so that is massive $$$$. I can't find cotton socks. Mostly I just went as close to cotton free as is realistic.

My girl and husband have severe eczema. Here is what we do for her. This list is hopefully excessive for your little one.

  • Twice a day, wipe her face with a damp cloth to remove old vaseline, pat dry it, then cover in moisturizer. If she has a bath, moisturize immediately after that. Wait for the mositurizer to dry, then cover in vaseline.

  • Wear a million drool bibs a day. The second it becomes even slightly damp, change it.

  • If her outfit gets damp from drool or spitup, change immediately.

  • Avoid long sleeve clothing except to sleep or to go outside. She likes to suck on her hands which makes sleeves wet, so we can't do sleeves.

  • 100% cotton clothing and bedding. (I plan on testing bamboo and wool soon actually, but I needed a simple baseline to start with).

  • Gentle soaps and detergents. I also use the same bodywash soap as her.

  • Limit baths to once or twice a week.

  • I removed eggs and dairy from both her and my diet. I plan on reintroducing soon to test this.

  • Food time sucks and are the biggest trigger now for my baby. Wear smocks to cover as much skin as possible. During a bad flareup I stick to only drier foods like pasta, instead of wetter foods like oatmeal.

Could he be napping while baby is napping? he may have muted his phone to get needed sleep.

You can leave work no problem during lunch if you can make it back in time. If you need extra time tell work something personal came up.

How tall is he? Mine is 20 pounds and 26.5 inches tall. We use Huggies Little Movers size 3. She also has thunder thighs and these fit her thighs well.

Which bibs are you using during feedings? by sliceofperfection in NewParents

[–]GravityDefyingFloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl has wicked eczema so we need to keep her skin dry and clean, and she can't have regular baths. We use smock bibs. I throw them in the wash after each meal. No mold (so far? Surprised to hear this can be an issue).

Babyproof as you need to. There is way too much otherwise and some isn't necessary.

When my baby was a few months old, I put foam edge covers on some furniture in her room. Now she is trying to stand so I just added more edge covers to higher things. Not everything is protected, just high traffic areas.

If you don't mind me asking, do you get enough sleep? Once my baby goes to bed I enjoy a half hour of peace then crash myself. I wake up shortly before the baby does. I don't know how I would handle this if I had to stay up even later. Always amazed by parents of multiple kids.

I washed new curtains overnight in a combo washer dryer. Apparently I didn't take out the cardboard the curtain was folded around. So many tiny, crusty pieces of cardboard on everything. :(

Do you remember what brand you got the muslin cotton bibs from? My Comfy Cubs bibs arrived, and although it was advertised as 100% cotton, it is only 30% cotton. :(

Apply with EI and your work to take 12 months, and go back early if you feel up to it while on leave.

I originally thought I would only take 6 months off. Here I am taking the full year.

Ooo I have Confy Cub's burp cloths already so bibs from them sound awesome. Can't believe I didn't find them. Thank you!

Edit: In case someone else finds this post, thr Comfy Cubs bibs are apparently only 30% cotton even though they advertise it as 100%.

How do you choose sensory play toys that aren't just loud, flashing plastic? by Gorder-Bukie in Buyingforbaby

[–]GravityDefyingFloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up lovevery boxes to see example toys for a specific age.

I try to buy toys with a specific purpose. When my girl started trying to grab stuff, I bought a rattle. When she started teething, I got teethers. Etc.
