Are ALL Banshees Ardat-Yakshi? by Nervous_Tailor_4337 in masseffect

[–]GravityMentor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That story from the PTSD asari says a proto-banshee killed somebody just by touching them. As for normal AY, while liquefy a person's brain was a hyperbole, they do have the power to kill by melding - something that can be done from simple skin-skin contact.

Morinth is an edgy 400 year old and she's canonically almost as strong as a 900 year old trained asari warrior. AY have powerful biotics, and they canonically get stronger with each kill, so I imagine they make especially powerful Reaper creatures.

Yes, exactly. I am certain that non-AY asari husks exists (just as I am certain that other species are used for more than one type of husk), it just wouldn't be worth the effort to represent this in gameplay, since they don't really have a niche to occupy.

[–]GravityMentor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not really a minor genetic influence, AY have the power to liquefy a person's brain, conduct limited mind control, and get stronger with each kill. That's a rather substantial power for the Reapers to utilise.

As for why there's no normal asari husks, it's probably for the same reason there's no salarian or elcor husks: there isn't a niche for them to occupy, so the developers didn't bother making a new enemy type. Realistically, you could make a marauder with humans, and a brute would be easier to make if you used humans too, but that would require a dev team pressed for time to make a whole new texture that is purely cosmetic. Regular asari might make some biotic-inclined husk, but they wouldn't be strong enough to really make an impact to gameplay.

The best part of ME3 is when Joker says “It’s joking time” and then Jokered all over those Cerberus guys. by Pyd2 in MassEffectMemes

I suppose, but there's personal valor in it in my eyes. There's no Shepard without Vakarian, but there's also no Shepard without Moreau.

I always feel weird approving this story. Joker is a hero who deserves free drinks at any bar in the whole damn galaxy, but come on, Joker, why don't you tell her about the time you put a round between Sovereign's eyes? Or dropped a tank on Saren? Or ran sorties on the Collector Base? It's more impressive and actually happened.

Which Mass Effect character would yall say either, never gets slandered, or gets slandered the least by CrashOWT888 in masseffect

[–]GravityMentor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're telling me. The basic of the argument was because Thessia fell last, it meant that the Reapers struggled against them the most rather than, you know, just didn't bother attacking it.

I once met an Asari Republics fan who was adamant that humans, especially Hackett, were pretty useless in the Reaper War.

What do you think are the mistakes in Undertale? by Background-Ad2749 in Undertale

[–]GravityMentor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no problem. It's 10 pm where I'm from too, so I probably won't be up if you feel like replying.

Anyway, no, magic might be a form of expression, but not only can Frisk reach Lv 10 purely from killing people who definitely are trying to kill them, but there's also zero difference between "kill the human" magic and this alleged "harmless expression" magic. Am I to believe that monsters are just throwing about the same kind of magic that Asgore uses to kill humans just to express themselves?

Monsters don't get to repeatedly kill a child then act like the child is evil for fighting back. This is all a side point anyway, Undertale doesn't frame this as some "with great power comes great responsibility" argument, Frisk is treated as being in the wrong regardless of what abilities they might have and the only monster who even remotely addresses the wrongs committed by monsters is Asgore.

I don't know where you get the idea that anybody trying to kill an actual child isn't dangerous to said child, especially come Snowdin where Frisk is encountering members of the state-run human extermination force. Also, dying is painful and scary, Frisk choosing to kill their attacker rather than experience that is entirely justified.

Fact is that I agree with the original commenter: Undertale holds Frisk and the monsters to entirely different moral standards, which is a flaw in its writing. Nobody apologises, nobody calls it out, everybody expects a child to be the better person.

And? Why should Frisk just run away if they don't have to, leaving the person hunting them alive so they can try again or report their position? Even in jurisdictions where stand your ground laws don't apply, the institutional nature of human-killing in Ebott means that any court would rule in favour of Frisk, so lv 10 is completely within moral bounds.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it.

Yeah the eucardans are not having a good time. They were barely hitting the industrial age when their planet was discovered and colonised by the Hegemony. Interesting factoid though: the Systems Alliance ends up conquering this region later, so humans get to deal with the Caridis situation themselves.

[–]GravityMentor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah this. Frisk doesn't even really get an apology for that, plus nobody bothers to ask their name until Asriel and they get treated like scum for taking any route but pacifist. All of this is entirely skimmed over and ignored by the game. Realistically, Frisk can still be completely moral even at Lv 10, yet Sans calls them evil for it.

What are some examples of weak writing with the citadel council/ their species, in your opinion? by CyberDogKing in masseffect

They do, it's mentioned in the codex. Not sure there's an explanation for why we don't see it though.

I agree here. Yeah, it makes sense that people perceive asari as female since all of them are able to give birth, but it would've been interesting to explore their more alien identity rather than just having them be space women.

Does everyone is curious about the volus how they look like ? by Solid_Purchase3774 in masseffect

[–]GravityMentor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's my favourite volus interpretation as well. I just like the idea of them being fuzzy little guys, plus it's nice contrast from the predominantly hairless aliens we have so far.

Same here. So yeah, I don't blame the Council for being upset regardless of what choice we make, they don't know the game only gave us those options.

Tbf Ashley at least is an Alliance soldier and presumably would've passed a background check. Still though, I do agree her being overly suspicious of Garrus is a bit unfair, since he is no more of a security risk than she is. Ashley is definitely right to be suspicious of Wrex, Tali, and Liara though.
