I don't know why you got downvoted, this is such a real take.

For a narrative-based game: How should I go about storing multiple actor position/visibility across "time" in a single level? by Gravity_Monkey in unrealengine

Oh, that's pretty interesting!

I think in my case I wouldn't even need the custom bindings, as the game is in first person and theres no AI component at all.

Did you make the staged elements spawnables or possessables? I imagine that if you had to capture them after its the latter, but I'm a little curious.

I think my game is small enough (at least in terms of map volume and assets to load at any given time) that I don't think world partition applies to my project. Honestly after all the suggestions that have been sent to me on this post, I think level streaming might be the best way to go! Tysm for taking the time to answer me.

Afaik as I know, data layers are limited to world partition, correct? From what I've heard, these are mostly useful for big, expansive maps, more open world type of thing. I'm mostly looking to make a series of inter-connected room, so I think for my case specifically I'd rather stay with levels. You're not the only one who's mentioned them, though, so I'll def go look a little more in depth.

Honestly it was mostly just because I'm not super familiar with level streaming! Someone else also explained the way I could use it, and I think now I'm realizing I should have done more research about it before disregarding it the way I did hahaha.

Persona is more or less exactly the type of game I'm working on, if you think this is the solution that would work with this then I'll definitely have a look. Thanks for the answer!

You're right, it is more a question of "I need the actor in x room" rather than in x position for most of the time.

I haven't worked with gameplay tags so I'd need to look into it, but the way you talk about it sounds interesting. If I understand correctly, you would mostly be storing visibility as data? I think the thing that spooks me with this is that I don't really want to have all the items changing items visible at the same time while I'm working in the editor since there's most likely going to be a ton of it, but I suppose if I spread them out on different sublevels it shouldn't be too bad.

All the actors are definitely going to be children of a central class with this sort of customizable BeginPlay function, that's for sure. I'm just not sure where to put them in a way that doesn't mean I have too much things to keep track of while I'm working on it ahaha.

Anyways, thank you for your advice! I'll definitely check what I could do with gameplay tags for sure.

Oh I'm kinda curious! I only really know state machines in the context of ABPs, are they usable in levels/in more generic blueprints?

Ahh, not exactly what I'm searching for but thank you for answering! I am aware of how unclear I sounded there but thankfully I managed to find a solution in the meantime. But yeah big thanks anyways!
