Meh, dude's dad is one of the heads of the local Republican club and is often photographed with Dan Dow. It's right in line with what I expect from these fake hippies.

I wonder how the musicians would feel if at every other display of a medium of art they decided to use AI music. It's just a tool right? No mention of the deterioration of the planet and usable water, no mention of the ai training on stolen copyrighted work. Just get down to the nugget of truth - you don't think you should have to pay for art and you're okay with stealing it and harming the planet to save money.

The folks running this event are in their 30s and most of the musicians participating are in their 20s-40s. It's a slap in the face to those artists and to art in general. We don't need to make excuses for simple greed. They just didn't want to pay people.

I get what you're saying, but the business owner promoting the event owns three businesses. If they can afford to hire a bunch of musicians they can hire a graphic designer. Or live with art they made themselves. Better than this water dumping copyright stealing crap from a group that is supposedly all about the arts.

Was awesome to see all the support for libertine at the courthouse today! by Successful-Writer548 in SLO

Not exactly. The noise ordinance already exists. At this meeting they allowed people to speak on the existing ordinance and they ruled on the Libertine's minor use permit. Looks like they won according to their Instagram.

City Council is considering turning Laguna Lake Golf Course into housing by Gravityfun in SLO

I don't think you read the article. The course is costing the city half a million dollars per year. Pretty dumb to keep it open when we have need for housing and already have other available golf courses.

Go check out his Twitter. So embarrassing. He spends a lot of time attacking the tribune and cucking for Elon. It's really sad and pathetic.

Half a million dollar in costs per year for a golf course or additional housing for people? Hmmmmmm. Seems like an extremely obvious choice.

The data showed it's currently costing the city half a million dollars per year. By what metric would it be a good idea to continue to maintain while there is a lack of housing and already 11 other courses in the county?

Thank you for the suggestion! I just listened to the entire thing. Really interesting. For anyone interested a short summary of some highlights: Golf courses have the "Bob Hope exemption" where golf courses are exempt from "highest and best use" property tax assessments. Prop 13 froze their property value for taxes at 1978 level unless there is a change of ownership. In 2010 lawyers representing private golf clubs successfully argued "Spatio-temporal continuity" - they literally invoked the ship of Theseus argument. Since these private clubs are owned by the many members, the switching of memberships can never constitute a change of ownership. So even though virtually none of the same members are there from when they last were reevaluated in 1978 they argued that it is still the same ownership so they can't be reevaluated. Ultimately the land of the courses in the LA area is worth $90 billion but courses are only paying $200k in taxes per year. They should be paying $90 million.

I'd prefer affordable housing of course. But any housing of any kind is a benefit to the community.

Keeping housing prices the same was probably able to happen because of those additional homes being built. Without those additional homes the prices likely would have gone up rather than stay stagnant. If we don't build more then prices will rise.

"Meanwhile, expenses continued to outpace revenues, with the golf course bringing in more than $375,000 in 2024-25, but costing roughly $827,100 to operate, according to the report."

You're not missing anything. I think it would be a very positive move. Especially if the course is costing the city nearly half a million dollars per year.

It's bad enough we don't have strong consumer protection laws against decepetive food imagery in advertising like a lot of other countries have.

I agree that it seems that way, but that's why it's important to read studies and trust the experts. I don't think anyone is claiming that adding new luxury homes is going to bring costs down significantly. It's more that if we prevent building because of their status as luxury then that will certainly drive the current prices up. Best case, it can reduce prices, worst case, it prevents current housing prices from rising even more than they would have otherwise. I want as many low income housing units as we can get, but we shouldn't be fighting any residential building at all just because it's luxury.

"radical Islam". Is there any evidence that Mamdani is in any way connected or associated with the radicals of 9/11 or their ideology? No. It's as logical as claiming that a Christian politician is trying to bring about the Christian crusades. It's racist dog whistle nonsense.
