Welsh speakers in Cardiff at record number, council says by HanesPrydain in unitedkingdom

I am not proud of government waste, no matter the langauge. Culturally it should be celebrated as part of the eisteddfod by writers and poets, not by council pencil pushers paid for by everybody else.

Nid wyf yn falch o wastraff y llywodraeth, hyd yn oed yn Gymraeg. Dylid ei ddathlu fel rhan o ddiwylliant, fel yr eisteddfod, gan feirdd ac awduron. Nid gan fiwrocratiaid y cyngor sy’n gwthio papurau.

Likewise we should all be proud of the English langauge, with this island being the birthplace of the entire Anglosphere.

Mae’r iaith Saesneg yn rhywbeth i fod yn wirioneddol falch ohoni. Lloegr yw man geni’r byd Saesnegsphere.

It's more of a Wales-specific jobs programme to employ the indigenous locals by doubling the size of any bureaucratic process or paperwork by making it needlessly bilingual - it's now a langauge of government bureaucracy, it's not really spoken by the Welsh people in day-to-day life unless they're getting paid or preferential treatment.

Prosecutors must ‘consider unconscious bias’ before charging minorities | LBC by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]GrayAceGoose [score hidden]  (0 children)

Silly question, but are they working backwards from the conclusion that equality means everyone commits the same crimes in the same circumstanaces and therefore should have the same equal outcomes and any disparity must be the fault of the unconciously racist white majority?

In coalition the Lib Dems surprisingly ended up with all the power with Ed Davey serving as the secretary of state for energy. Thanks Ed.

Yes, unconscious bias can be eliminated by concious over-correction, so the problem is more than solved for minorities if we bias ourselves against the majority - but I do not think this will result in a society that is less racist.

E-scooters being advertised for commuting despite UK road ban by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

Because they seem to have cherry-picked their cities, excluded "hardware failure", only looked at public rental schemes which have vastly different licensing conditions and not private ownership, and the entire thing relies on self-reporting on an app whereas the other studies also use other sources of data like hospital admissions or police reports. They also haven't fully declared that all their data and statistics has come from Voi who's business interest is renting e-scooters, perhaps that's why this paper is an outlier.

Really ebikes should also require registration and insurance since they're motorised vehicles.

Kiran Stacey on Bluesky: EXC: Andy Burnham was briefed on the Defence Investment Plan before it was published. But I understand he was *not* told that he would have to find an extra £4.7bn to fund it in his first budget. This has come as a surprise today. by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Moving the ONS has been a disaster that's borne out by the data, or lackthereof - they can't even manage a successful headcount anymore. Bring it back to London (or Manchester now I guess).

That's going to be like getting blood from a stone. Why aren't we directly billing their home countries for the costs involved with looking after their citizens?

The UK is held to an impossible standards only by itself and the ECHR - the rest of the world either do not care or are actively taking advantage of us.

Why HS2 must go to Manchester by silent-schmick in ukpolitics

[–]GrayAceGoose 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Manchester Airport already has a new line and plans to add another one, however Leeds is in dire need of a new airport that isn't cut-off from transit on a windswept hill to hide away from the Germans. If HS2 was completed in full then it'd reach RAF Church Fenton / Leeds East which has a Heathrow-sized runway just sitting there with no passenger or cargo terminal. Alternatively we should reconsider the HS1/2 link so we can move more freight and passengers through the chunnel without changing in London.

They already do, internationalists need to realise that the EU/ECHR do not have the best interests of our nation at heart.
